BASE LOAD POWER it is not and wind and solar are NOT green power why? 60 recycle rate wind turbine blades can only be recycled in USA and shredded into concrete mix GREEN!! Comment from : Simon Bowman |
Molten salt storage is already a thing in the concentrated solar plants, has been for two decades I am not sure why we don't just build these independently Comment from : Joe |
We have that hydro power one in the UK in Wales but only as a sort of backup power option for if there's a very big power outage across the country (rare) But every winter it makes the news when our tabloids roll out the usual fear mongering 'national power outages expected' headlines but we never use it Comment from : dbcooper1 |
Why not make individuals energy independent like some people already are? I can think of ways to do that & I bet various systems & methods could be modified, improved & combined Many ideas & systems place focus on huge systems to benefit the masses I know there are reasons for that & challenges too Comment from : Fido |
Very interested in energy storage Comment from : Fido |

I get that this video is just about energy storage, but I find it weird that it entirely ignored complementing renewables with nuclear, geothermal, hydro, and whatever clean firm options we come up with Comment from : John Jacobs |
This is exciting Comment from : swissgold89 |
Perhaps we should build some nuclear plants, just in case those energy storage won't be viable? Just a thought Comment from : Martin Hjelmeland |
Another solution is high voltage DC lines Why store the energy if it can be transported and used by another region of the country or the world; and viceversa Comment from : jose farrington |
Megapack Comment from : Blaxtain Kranky |

Not mentioned: instead of building solar arrays facing south which generally collects the most amount of energy, but peaks around solar noon, face panels east or west to collect morning or evening sun Engineers know this, just not mentioned in the video Comment from : Pierre Roy |

Hydrogen ? Comment from : Furkan Taşdelen |
Waht about sodium batteries? Comment from : Michał Dopierała |

Twisting ropes, springs, or cables could also work, I wonder if anyone's working on that Comment from : AndroidDoctorr |
How does the one work that has a well *below*?brDon't you need energy to blift/b the water? The way it was shown it doesn't make a lot of sense to me Comment from : Kram1032 |
Hi Vox! Loved this quick update on potential storage solutions for renewalable energies Bit of an odd question, but what is the song called you play in the outtro - last few seconds - ????brbrMany thanks! Comment from : Rakiura Herzhoff |
we're gonna need all of the above, because there are a looooooooooot of people in this world who don't understand or support climate science and renewable energy, or are simply reliant on others to make the changes while they keep doing what they're doing Comment from : geekdiggy |
Too superficial, you can't talk about these solutions without going into the price Downvoted Comment from : Wouter V |
how come gravity energy could be that efficient !? if it really comes true, it would be awesome ! Also anyone try to make man-made fozzil fuel ? from garbage or food waste ? Comment from : Dizzon |
We should be discussing how to use less energy not (only) how to switch to renewables Comment from : Asteroide |
While these "batteries" will clearly be needed if we are to move into a future free of carbon emissions, why is it that we are still only trying to rely on technology to solve societal issues? That energy distribution throughout the day on the grid is clearly something that can be somewhat flattened if societal arrangements regarding work routines and such be adjusted - not enough to render these batteries obsolete, but could certainly reduce the strain put into such systems Comment from : hcxpl1 |
Why not just use the energy to pressurize air? It's compact, cheap, requires little infrastructure, and you can do it anywhere Comment from : Heika |
Ahh Turlough in the Wicklow mountains 🏔️ Comment from : darthwilson |
Why can't you just use and re-use current and defunct watertowers, which are all over the place anyway? Comment from : artisdying |
Storage is for surplus There's no surplus green energy Comment from : Gabriel Cintron |

Pumped hydro doesn't need mountains It can also be done on the sea floor Another type of energy storage is liquid air And I know I have heard of other types of energy storage as wellbrI like how this video shows some alternative ways to batteries to store energy, but I wish the list was a bit longer Comment from : Animiles |

I think aluminum storage is good Comment from : Sufthegoat |
The general ideas presented for energy storage are great The explanations used are terrible brbrIn the California example at the beginning, the chart implies that renewables never meet demand, but says energy storage is the issue Storage is only the issue if you have times of excess yet the example shows no excess brbrIn the pumped storage example, it's shown wind and solar are 100 efficient, but that's patently false Solar and wind efficiency are both under 50 Comment from : Huebz |
What about liquid air energy storage? Comment from : Redok09 |
Or we could’ve just installed nuclear plant and forget about this whole hustle of chasing wind… Comment from : ALEXANDER PARKHOMENKO |

Sad to see they did not discuss nuclear energy It is renewable, scalable, and does not depend on the time of day and weather patterns Comment from : Kiyaan Aly |
And what about thousands of electric cars connected to the grid via V2G? This option could stabilize the grid Comment from : Mondrian Atawiz |
Forgot to mention Sand Batteries :) Comment from : Maxxzyy |
