Comment from : Cheryle Maybury

Danny Heinz
Gday ryan love the vids, can u please PM me your address, I wouldn't mind trying to send you a few aussie icons
Comment from : Danny Heinz

Just A Guy
Err, the queen is on all our money (till she croaked), because we're a member of the commonwealth So the "head" on all our money is the queen as the figurative head of state, the "tails" is a historical Australian on the notes, and an iconic fauna on the coins The top corner of the note actually has a hologram, so it's harder than a transparent bit to counterfeitbrAspect ratio wise they are different, but not "that" different, the vision impaired can tell the difference, and it's another anti-counterfeiting effect but it's not different enough to be disruptive It does help you not grab the wrong bill when you're paying in a less-well lit area howeverbrEmu: You're getting closer bgrin/b slightly less emphasis on the 2nd syllable, the "m" is there, but not as "hard" as it were :) (And we shall never forget out defeat at the hands of our Emu Oppressors!!!! *laughs*) And it's not our national bird or national animal, but it IS on our coat of arms The Kangaroo and the Emu, as neither animal can walk backwards, so we can only move forward (NO Retreat! No Surrender! They can take our lives, but they'll never take our TimTams!!!! *laughs*)
Comment from : Just A Guy

Cotterpin Doozer
Emu's, Platypus', Kangaroos and Echnidna's(ant eaters) have been relegated to our coins
Comment from : Cotterpin Doozer

Scott D
You need to look up Australia's Emu War!
Comment from : Scott D

Peter Ryan
I use cash as often as I can because I refuse to fall in line with the banks which want to control us Leaving that aside the Queen of England and now the King following her death is our Head of State
Comment from : Peter Ryan

Grey Dingo
The irony about our beautiful notes is that Australia is "expected" to go cashless by 2030 Personally, I haven't carried cash for the last 6 years
Comment from : Grey Dingo

StudioZer0 Arts Inc
And the Emu is on our Coat of Arms wwwpmcgovau/honours-and-symbols/commonwealth-coat-arms
Comment from : StudioZer0 Arts Inc

Cherie Delaney
Australia is part of the Commonwealth thus Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) is our head of state (was) which is why her image is on our money especially coins like the 5,10, 20 and 50 cent pieces and our 1 & 2 dollar coins King Charles will be on future editions when they are minted
Comment from : Cherie Delaney

Randall Theuekauf
Yes they fold notes but some do crease
Comment from : Randall Theuekauf

Randall Theuekauf

Comment from : Robb

ATEmedia
As an Aussie I didn't think our notes were so good thanks for making me realise how cool our currency is, I just use it, spend it and put in my wallet and never actually looked at the details
Comment from : ATEmedia

Retro Vinyl
I worked in a bank in the 90s The first batch of $5 notes gave my hands allergic reaction

Comment from : Sue Moore

Mandy Wilson

Comment from : Mandy Wilson

Ryan

Comment from : Ryan

Karen B
The emu and kangaroo are on the coat of arms because they can only go forward That is where the emu shines
Comment from : Karen B

wolfie35p
I went to Perth Australia in 1997 for a 1 month holiday, and witnessed these notes for the first time, they didn't feel real at all, but were super cool, but the bad thing about the notes is, that they sometime stuck to each other, which was a pain, but now the Euro is made the same way, and the Brittish note is also going down the same path, making them near, if not, impossible to copy
Comment from : wolfie35p

Matt Heere
The Emu is on our coins along with the kangaroo
Comment from : Matt Heere

Ariel Fortes
I tried mate but you pause too much All the best
Comment from : Ariel Fortes

IH8COMMERCIALRNB
Yes in fact, that is queen elizabeth The last bird is a lyrebird, and the emu is on the coins in the Australian coat of arms The coins have other animals also, echidna, kangaroo, platypus etc
Comment from : IH8COMMERCIALRNB

Goatcha
They released the new 50 before the 20 because there was a problem with counterfeit 50s, the new bill was designed to squash that
Comment from : Goatcha

Goatcha
Its not the same photo of the queen, it's been updated Our coins had a very young Queen on them for decades but got changed in the 2000s,
Comment from : Goatcha

Goatcha
Its not that notes fall apart after a few years, but they do take damage over time and cotton notes like the US will tend to fadebrAnyway when notes get returned to banks old and worn ones get replaced with crisp new onesbrBut they stay in circulation if no one deposits them
Comment from : Goatcha

Zig Zag
Man, you should just come to Australia for a holiday and you will see how our monies fit perfectly fine into our wallets without it bulging everywhere! The USD cash notes could sure use a change And don't worry, you'll get the hang of the pronouncement of EMU soon enough 😁
Comment from : Zig Zag

Barbara MacDonald
Yes its queen Elizabeth
Comment from : Barbara MacDonald

Gratainiata
on the $100 note is a lyrebird
Comment from : Gratainiata

Gratainiata

Comment from : Gratainiata

Our Australia 🇦🇺
The notes do fold, survive if they go through the wash & are the same height but different lengths We are still part of the commonwealth therefore the Queen was our Queen to a degree The monarch has no real affect on how our country is governed though Australian banking & payment systems are light years ahead of the states with pay wave, bpay and other such advances, we don’t use cheques anymore most transactions even those from government agencies are electronic or digital
Comment from : Our Australia 🇦🇺

Barry Luxford
Some of coins are interesting too
Comment from : Barry Luxford

Mosaic Owl Studios
You can run those polimer notes through the washing machine over and over An American bank note will barely make it through the wash twice
Comment from : Mosaic Owl Studios

Mosaic Owl Studios
Omg the most American reaction ever-- "who IS that lady?oh, is that the queen?"
Comment from : Mosaic Owl Studios

Faith Stewart / I Love my Son and Daughter

Comment from : WildHoney7

Jim Gilchrist
The size of the notes is to assist the blind They have wallets which have size sections so the user can determine the value of the note by size
Comment from : Jim Gilchrist

DoubleDee
Australian banknotes are amazing in a variety of ways They are different sizes, with the size increasing with the value of the note The $1 and $2 bills have now been replaced by coins, but the security features continue in the other notes They are basically impossible to counterfeit and it's easy for a layperson to pick out a fake note As another poster has said, they have braille markings for those with vision impairments The size of the note increases with value of the note Some of the inbuilt technology is very sophisticated but the notes are still easy to use
Comment from : DoubleDee

Kieran Kelly
One of the best ways to tell whether a note is counterfeit in Australia is by trying to scrunch it If it doesn’t bounce back into shape, and keeps creases in it, it’s probably fake
Comment from : Kieran Kelly

Fiona walsh
Like paper notes polymer made notes bend, so the average wallet can easily accommodate money (for the lucky ones who have available cash in 2023)
Comment from : Fiona walsh

K T
Can’t put the emu on our currency They can’t be trusted and will demand a percentage in reparations
Comment from : K T

Slaygor
When they talk about the 'lifespan' of a banknote, they are referring to a note in constant use In and out of wallets, purses and wherever someone might stash their cash, a number of times per day Constantly being folded and unfolded, in and out of cash registers, and all the other abuse cash in use sees on a daily basis If you just store the money it, of course, lasts a lot longer Banks often trade damaged notes for new notes, so the people don't see the damage normally
Comment from : Slaygor

Lisa Dean
I remember when the plastic notes came out, the first thing I noticed after how beautiful they are, was that when they were folded, it was bad, it was messy It has been many years now, but I aways get a wallet that I can keep the notes in flat, because folding them damages the notes When the folding happens, actually creasing, you can't easily put the note flat If you put it on the table, it bounces
Comment from : Lisa Dean

Sonia Smith
You are so funny love all your videos
Comment from : Sonia Smith

julie Turner

Peter Cook
There's an emu on the $5 note Sort of It's on the coat of arms on the front centre of the Parliament House It's only on the note because it's on the statue on the actual building
Comment from : Peter Cook

Peter Cook
It's traditional in the British Empire for the reigning monarch to be on the smallest denomination
Comment from : Peter Cook

Kyle Mackey
The emu is on the Australian coat of arms

Comment from : Bruce Levin

Bruce Levin
The emu and the kangaroo are on coat of arms
Comment from : Bruce Levin

Bruce Levin
You can fold them and overtime they too can become slightly crumpled but nowhere near that of the paper bills which could tear and fray
Comment from : Bruce Levin

Bruce Levin
Yes that’s her majesty the Queen in the top right
Comment from : Bruce Levin

Bruce Levin
The queen is there as per convention the reigning monarch’s face was always on the lowest denomination note
Comment from : Bruce Levin

Bruce Levin
That lady was Queen Elizabeth II!
Comment from : Bruce Levin

Jas Del

Comment from : Jas Del

Robert Berwick
Who is this Septic Tank, Australia is a Constitutional Monarcy, maybe educate yourself before making asinine statements and why would the most mythological culture and heritage have 'In God We Trust' on currency?
Comment from : Robert Berwick

Lenny Mac
End of life would be when you 18 month Granddaughter feed a $100 note to your Golden Retriever, which proves they can be torn! 😩 They also $100 note was grey at some point and was known as a grey shark, a $20 as a lobster, a $50 as a pineapple There is a slang word for almost everything we have and do I'm glad they changed the gre $100 note I was walking my 3 eldest kids to childcare at the gym over 30 years ago and found my almost 2 year old daughter had one in her clear plastic handbag she insisted taking with her She had taken it from my wallet and put it in her bag Thant would have been fun to explain Even our coins are beautiful
Comment from : Lenny Mac

Rose Windman
The kangaroo and the emu are on the coat of arms We are a Commonwealth country of which the Queen is the head of, or was until she biffed it, also most people rarely use money anymore, they just use they're cards
Comment from : Rose Windman

Comment from : maursyf16

maursyf16
Yes, the Queen is on Australian notes and coins because we are a Commonwealth country and she is our head of state US notes are made from linen and cotton with tiny red and blue fibres embeded in the note
Comment from : maursyf16

Stephen Hodgson
Here in the UK our notes are all different sizes as well Braille is fine once you have the note out of your wallet but a different size helps you differentiate while it's still in your wallet
Comment from : Stephen Hodgson

SchmittyD
The Emu and Kangaroo are on the Australia Coat of Arms, which I think is actually on the currency Both because they are the only animals in the world which can't walk backwards
Comment from : SchmittyD

ashlles86
Every time I visit the US I regain my appreciation for Australian currency I'll be standing at a counter in the US searching through my notes and coins trying to find the right amount and always end up with a ton of tiny coins Eventually I learnt to just put all my coins on the counter and let the cashier pick out the correct ones At least all the cshiers I've come across have been really nice and help out the foreigner
Comment from : ashlles86

Comment from : Cheryl A

Ms IdiotBox
The polymer bank notes used in not only Australian currency notes but the nations mentioned, were developed by Australia's amazing and oft-underfunded, CSIRO who, if you Google them, have developed some world-leading technology
Comment from : Ms IdiotBox

James Matheson
The Aussie money is similar to many other countries around the world, like Canada as an example, its because we make their money for them
Comment from : James Matheson

JVCX_Christopher
Your statement is accurate and informative It is worth noting that the Australian five dollar note features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, who has been the reigning monarch of the Commonwealth for a remarkable length of time This is a fitting tribute to her role and contributions to the Commonwealth nations ;)
Comment from : JVCX_Christopher

Peter Hollow
You were right both times it was the queen However the $1 bill doesn't exist anymore (now a coin), tradition says the monarch appears on the lowest banknote so she was moved to the $5 NOTE ($2 is now a coin too)
Comment from : Peter Hollow
