Big corporation monopolies are forgetting something that users will return to if they push their greed too far brbrSay they somehow won against Spotify forcing it to go a different route so those companies can run sell at higher margin The users will simply just torrent It’s not like music piracy is new nor hard Plus doesn’t come with annoyances like geo-restriction Forcing customers to pay doesn’t usually end well brbrThe film streaming industry is closer to this currently than music There is so many, each touting their “exclusive” at more or less same prices which add up to 50+ USD if you were to actually watch everything you want to watch It suddenly now makes a lot more sense to pay NordVPN 5$ a month and stream off torrents Piracy went down at one point because of Netflix, the convenience was better than the risk But that same logic is now breaking apart If one route takes 50$ while the other takes 5$ a month, the choice is obvious

Microsoft is probably the most likely to buy them And like all their other buyouts (rip zune) Spotify will die

Howard _3_Duck
there needs to be a lot more licensing agreements with companies like Sonos Audio, TV's, Automobiles playing specialized HD Content and charging Fees like what Microsoft did with Windows Software to PC oem's in the 1990's and today McDonalds knew they were not going to be profitable on Burgers alone so they became a realty company Spotify can do this it will just take a lot of time
Comment from : Howard _3_Duck

BrotherToTheFox
I'm gonna get so much hate for this it's: "Taylor's Version"
Comment from : BrotherToTheFox

Hostile
Fine, a lot of music comes from nl, hungry brbrThey had a lot of people doing covers of future music in malaysia that they would use for paid executes "It is better this way because we don't have to keep them after"brbrOnce they use them up, they try to kill them off They try to get money for it
Comment from : Hostile

herminio
Spotify has always spent more money than it creates, they DO NOT in any shape or form support upcoming artists and are more that happy to take the listens that the artists' work and creativity provide Spotify is doomed, I give it less than a decade They do not respect what they are supposed to portray (music, art, human connection) and are a company solely focused at fast growth at the expense of its stakeholders and partners (the artists)
Comment from : herminio

Jacky’s Bin
idk bout y'all but i got 3 months of premium, got 6 months of apple music free and moved there, came back to 2 months free of spotifybrbrwheyy im bankrupting them (but they did increase their price by 1 pound more a month)
Comment from : Jacky’s Bin

Spotify had a good idea when they tried cutting deals with major artists outside of the record labels, of course the "big 3" were never gonna let them get away with it, but they shouldn't have abandoned the idea Instead they should've doubled-down and start making their own artists to compete with the big 3 Think about it, Spotify already has a monopoly on streaming - that's millions of users on their platform Nothing is stopping them from finding new artists, signing them under their own Spotify label and promoting them like crazy If they could successfully promote a few artists into the mainstream and have them under their own label, not only will they "stick it to the man", they'll also have some leverage to negotiate better rates with the major lables
Comment from : seansibiya1

MemoFromEssex
If only the didn't spend their money on UI changes EVERY day!
Comment from : MemoFromEssex

Ezra Odole
Spotify should become a record label and scoop up young talent on rewarding contracts Basically doing Netflix’s approach of building an in-house arsenal But, they probably can’t since the old labels have so much power over them and may pull their artists if Spotify oversteps
Comment from : Ezra Odole

Harry Potter
I know spotify is popular but my biggest issue was the ui and usability with sections that utilize giant lists The competitors werent great either but it didnt frustrate me nearly as much as this one
Comment from : Harry Potter

driventerprises LLC
its simple subscription based model is a terrible business modelbrbrbrit dont work for netflix, hulu, or any streaming app, and it damn sure dont work for music appsthe expense and paying the record labels will eat the profitand spotify dont own shitbrbrwhat they should of did was become a record label and sign their own artist
Comment from : driventerprises LLC

Phil Sim
This is terrible, Spotify is one of the very few companies to have steered clear of the nonsense that Netflix, YouTube, Disney+ & Amazon that been forcing down their users throats Much like XboxbrKinda wish they just expanded their own industry to more than audio; stab into markets that haven't been taken over yetbrHeck, why not just have Xbox buy Spotify & include it in Game Pass Most of Xbox's users already have a Spotify subscription
Comment from : Phil Sim

Tony Nguyen
It feels like the brand image of Spotify is so closely linked to music and audio, that it prevents Spotify from expanding into different more profitable industries
Comment from : Tony Nguyen

José Gálvez
spotify needs to cut intermedaries, help artist publish with them and turn into publisher themself
Comment from : José Gálvez

Yup this video is accurate
Comment from : Haru Rose Ch

Sam Rommer
The reason they’ve never turned a profit is charging $10 instead of $100 Selling access to every song ever created for $10 a month was and is utterly ridiculous Cheap streaming kills industries It’s killing music, and it’s killing films
Comment from : Sam Rommer

Mason Wyss
No explanation of why the company is still afloat if it’s consistently losing money (it’s awash in investment capital, which acts basically as a private subsidy) or how increased streaming time is equal to increased revenue (it’s not if users only pay once a month no matter how much they stream)
Comment from : Mason Wyss

Sandpit
TBH, this channel has extremely high-quality content I was glued to the end of the video I am wondering if you need a quality editor for your videos, If yes, let me know how can I contact you:)

Asamwa Personal
Spotify would need to sign artists and develop them 😂😂
Comment from : Asamwa Personal

Wade Hathaway
Boo hoo Just a bad business model
Comment from : Wade Hathaway

Lucas Rodmo
The only way Spotify ever survive in the music industry will be indeed signing artists and taking some off the monopoly of the big 3 Reviewing those contracts is the bare minimum, and I think the 4 main players (YT, Amazon, Apple and Sptf) must unite against those restrictions in contract in order to make this possible If they can sign artists and create original musical content directly, is better for everyone It's better to the artist, they will get payed directly, and can have multiple platforms to compete for their art, so they aren't a commodity product anymore They also will have more creative freedom It's better to the consumer, that can now support their artists directly Its better for the market, since we will have a more dynamic musical landscape, with more innovative production It's literally the only solution Tho you can say that Spotify don't have other sources of revenue compared to their competitors, their competitors are still loosing money in this front And will continue to do so, unless they can produce original content
Comment from : Lucas Rodmo

ChappyHappy

Leo Gougeon
What an excellent, concise and well produced video detailing Spotify’s unique financial situation The comparison between Netflix was also very well done Bravo
Comment from : Leo Gougeon

virtualnuke 3553
Why not try to push for advertising of smaller labels not part of the big 3? If it's allowed in their contract (which it very well might not be) they could offer additional benefits to smaller artists on the platform, with their goal being to raise them up into artists that could change the amount of streams held by the big 3 This method might also change the absolutely horrible "playlistification" of music, where the only way to get advertisement as a small artists is to get your music accepted into big playlists which only accept carbon copies of crappy songsbrbrAnyway, they could brand checking out smaller artists and promote pushing your musical boundaries, which would reduce that 70 of all streams held by the big 3, while having these artists sign contracts with Spotify that wouldn't technically count as owning their music, but it might as well be
Comment from : virtualnuke 3553

Moon ☾
Spotify should make their own record label
Comment from : Moon ☾

charliemoneal
Basically my whole music catalogue is on Spotify so if I don’t want to lose my years of collected music, I feel like I should switch

Comment from : Dejvi

Lince
And yet it moves - Galileo Galilei You're comparing bacon to the speed of light Spotify is an ecosystem by itself, contrary to EVERY other brand in the stone age You can keep listening to the same playlist from home, to mobile, to the car, to the work place, to rest-room, to gaming service, to kitchen, to dinner room and bed room non-stop You cannot do that with any other service, not even the so-called ecosystem fruity brand, which has never been an ecosystem for music, but a jail 100 of nothing is nothing "Art of business"? Art of doom when you start comparing Netflix to Spotify or turning to podcast only streaming
Comment from : Lince

xzeuii
Spotify often sends out “exclusive” pre-access codes to artists you listen to brbrMaybe Spotify gets an affiliate commission through this?
Comment from : xzeuii

BobSanders33
I’ll save you the time Spotify isn’t profitable because music streaming services are at best a zero profit margin feature, not a profitable businessbrbrSpotify pioneered an industry that literally can’t make money
Comment from : BobSanders33

Heisenberdy
Ay brotherwell made videobrbrBut slow it the fuck downbrbrI feel at war by just watching it
Comment from : Heisenberdy

chawrx3

Comment from : Saeed Esmaili

Cam P
Spotify's gonna go for low hanging fruit for now but litigation against the oligopoly in the future
Comment from : Cam P

Mr Jimmy
Spotify should invest more in audio dramas like ‘Batman Unburied’ They could revive the whole concept since radio dramas died off long ago It could be their version of Netflix originals
Comment from : Mr Jimmy

AlifShow
I believe they made AI DJ to try to get us to listen to music that's lower cost
Comment from : AlifShow

Peter Griffin
So basically EVERYONE has one common enemy, and thats record labelsbrbrScrew the big three
Comment from : Peter Griffin

Jordi CRod
Spotify should offer AI generated music depending on your mood No royalties there You’re welcome
Comment from : Jordi CRod

Liam
Suggesting that Spotify should lower the rates for artists is pretty gross
Comment from : Liam

Luna Skye
I’d be interested to see Spotify enter into the audio book market People are fed up with the monopoly of Audible, as demonstrated by the protest launched through the campaign Brandon Sanderson has done recently It would be lucrative and potential for success If Spotify can negotiate better deals for authors compared to audible, i think this could become a good business area for the company Also, they should stop making deals with grifters like Meghan and Harry
Comment from : Luna Skye

Mukund Nivas
Loved the whole breakdown! You’ve got yourself a subscriber
Comment from : Mukund Nivas

Idothings
But how long will these licensing deals with these labels last for?
Comment from : Idothings

Comment from : chron

Content
If spotify falls, that means the big 3 will get even more power, which will ultimately hurt the users So I'm supporting spotify!
Comment from : Content

Brock Obama
After watching the spotify documentary on netflix, i still despise the labels Everyone in the course of spotify's uprising gave spotify shit for not paying the artists enough, but just prior to that the blame was placed on the labels! why is it still not on the labels? they take everything from the artist and the streaming platforms, and there is nothing anyone can do about it becausebr1 that's just the way it isbr2 they have a lot of money to defend themselves
Comment from : Brock Obama

Ya Boi Boris
UMG and WMG are two of the actual dumbest and most annoying company's I've ever seen
Comment from : Ya Boi Boris

Lui2k

Asia Wood
And now spotify is going up to $1199 If I didn't already have all my playlists set up and my podcasts on spotify I would prob move to Amazon or YouTube
Comment from : Asia Wood

Tristan Ray
The problem that all these big time companies are actually going through is that they expect their companies to last forever They won't Everything dies eventually, its a part of life Sometimes you have to let go of the things you love, the things that help you throughout your journey brbrJust remember that when something dies, others are born from it's ashes Companies like this should expect to die out eventually and should plan accordingly Prepare money to invest in other companies that have a chance of taking it's place Or use the experience they gained to join a new company or organization that would also either take it's place, or create something new brbrThe answer to their problems are staring at them Maybe not staring them in the face, but they are staring at them
