My husband did this 40 years ago He put it in the closet behind the clothes He also made a fake wall behind the clothes to but his rifles It looked like a built in shelf for shoes Wonder if the new owners ever found it

That’s always been a conundrum Somewhere where fire can’t destroy it, I won’t forget, or if I die family still can access it If I put it in a metal container with a water bottle over it I’m ok I used to keep it in my toolbox at work since the box was locked, a limited number of people could even get near it and since we had a navy contract it was locked up in a room on top of that In an aircraft hangar But I retired And I don’t want the wife to know cuz it’ll burn a hole in her brain knowing there’s money But it’s only for emergencies So I’m thinking in the attic in a corner in a metal container in a larger metal container with water bottle But obviously if I die it’ll be there I’m actually tempted to quietly get a safe deposit box Or better yet hide it in the safe in the closet Cuz the floor of safe is thick removable felt Or tape it to the top of safe It’s only 1500 dollars in hundreds and fifties Not the end of the world But it’s really hard to save money anymore with the cost of things Government people really screwed the pooch

Is the box waterproof, fireproof, rat-proof, insect proof, mold/moisture/mildew proof? I like the idea, but money is too pricy to have destroyed because it’s not protected

(kid scampers off with grandpa's money) Pretty sure carving out the inside of an old book and sticking your money inside is still one of the best tried-and-true methods (which I don't do myself cause money is almost all electronic now) Also, when is the last time you heard of a burglar sitting down for a warm cup of tea and a good book while robbing your house? They don't bother with books, or fake cans of soup that hold money, or little bags under dirt in a plant, etc

Or maybe you can take out all the inside parts of a speaker, old TV (whatever) and put things there; sorrounded by other decrepit old objects of no value

It's a lot simpler to have an attic or basement with some old junk and garbage and put your valuable things in a cardboard box under old newspapers and magazines; inside an old jacket or parka you don't wear anymore

Great hiding place If someone broke into your home they would have to try all the plugs Maybe you could make a dummy one and keep some fake jewelry in it and they wouldn’t get to the real one
