Collect math Books, this is fake question especially integral area of calculus, all calculus books all the time perform U sub U sub used in linear field that is technique But U sub used in non-linear field that is long way and complicated also that is old and behind techniques, unfortunately you all the time perform u sub in non-linear field that long way and waste student time I created a few new concepts smart formula, that is short process, clear, simple and easier understand

@zray2937
The Spanish version of the Apostol books was very easy to find when I started my undergrad some 20 years ago There was even a point when I had two copies of the fist tome

@edwardsmith-rowland2852
I collect mostly physics books but also math, programming, bronze age (mostly Egyptian) history I too am a book smeller! I haven't counted my books and I need to put up more shelves and organize! I'm starting a BibTeX database I used to buy mostly new but after watching this channel I've come around to looking first for old copies of books

@noam65
I collected all kinds of books, including math books, most of which I read I was, in my younger years, a voracious reader To make room for new ones, I gave many to libraries, one of which was in the Philippines

@WitchidWitchid
Years ago I got used copies of Tom Apostal's Calculus Volumes 1 and 2 for really cheap at a library book sale I saw them and I said "I gootta have those" I paid at most 5 dollars for the set
Comment from : @WitchidWitchid

@quantum_psi
I already collect! All of my books are pdf format since I took so many math courses during COVID and was forced to do online classes I plan on buying the physical copies eventually so I can put them on display

@MrProduktrelaterad
I’m currently in uni for a math major and have saved all my math books from classes, and even bought more that I don’t even use for my studies brI’d like to have a grand collection some day, but right now I’m more inclined to sell them due to my financial situation, being a student and all
Comment from : @MrProduktrelaterad

@joaop3268
Hey! Can you help me deciding which book to start in my Math journey? I already watched your videos for thatbrBut my question is: talking about Algebra and Trig, what is the difference between your recommendations of Algebra books and Pre-Calc books, don't they have the same content usually? Practical question: I'm now between The Elementary Algebra (Sullivan) and Pre-Calculus (Stewart), the first you recommended to be the first for beginners, but they seem similar Which one should I take first?
Comment from : @joaop3268

@neal7668
I have collected high school and college level math, science, and engineering books for several decades I use them as a resource When studying a particular topic, I find it very helpful to read perspectives from many different authors as no one author can explain every topic in a way that is clear to every reader I acquired a AAS degree in Digital Electronics in the early 1980s and was recruited by the Engineering Chief of Radar & Antenna Ranges for a major defense contactor I joined several engineering book clubs and spent thousands of dollars on books related to radar and antenna technologies because my coworkers were all seasoned and very talented engineers Even after a substantial discount, many of these engineering textbooks were still well over $100 each After the internet came along, books of this sort became available at a much more affordable rate Now, I don't just purchase used math and engineering books to be resourceful but also to offset the tremendous cost of my impressive engineering library

@liondovelearning1391
Mental Math books are my absolute favorite brbrI have been looking for an imaginary abacus book that I saw once in a library and it's like a fever dream, just doesn't exist anymore
Comment from : @liondovelearning1391

@liondovelearning1391
I hoard books brI cannot read all of them
Comment from : @liondovelearning1391

@WrathofMath
I have a couple hundred math books Latest addition was a speed math book from the fifties More thorough than any modern text I’ve seen That variety in presentation and topics is one of the great things about collecting a variety of math books from different times When creating math lessons, I usually refer to several textbooks on the topic in question to see if there are variations in definitions, interesting ways to present the topic, enlightening examples, and so on And I hope you’ll do some more math book reviews soon - the holidays are coming up and your book review playlist is my old standby for holiday decorating background music!
Comment from : @WrathofMath

@CARLiCON
6:40 Spherical trigonometry is interesting, although it defies Euclidean geometry, in that you can have a spherical triangle with 3 equidistant sides & 3 right angles, which also refutes the Pythagorean theoremI wonder why they stopped teaching it, guess they don't want kids thinking outside the box?
Comment from : @CARLiCON

@xoppa09
I collect math books too, but I tend to keep the most advanced ones like set theory, analysis (got rid of the algebra, geometry, and calculus ones)
Comment from : @xoppa09

@carlagoncalves7168

@a_voice_in_the_wilderness
I have a collection of old books on mathematics and science, some dating back over 100 years I agree, the subject itself doesn't age so an old book on complex numbers contains no less valid content than a new book Here's two I just randomly grabbed from my library:brbrElectricity and MagnetismbrCE Ashford, MAbrEdward Arnold,brLondon 1903brbrCusack's AlgebrabrJames CusackbrCity Of London Book DepotbrLondon 1895

@daimokuroku9041
Literally I was thinking about collecting math books like two days before this video :) Thinking about learning linear algebra on my own
Comment from : @daimokuroku9041

@jamescooper6354
I've enjoyed your videos I'm 64 retired and for some odd reason I've been thinking of doing mathematics again, and on my own (self-study) due to finances and non interest in electives courses It's been about 36 years since I completed all my math requirements for a civil engineering degree Last course was Intro to Differential equations So, I decided I won't know if I don't even try I have a few questions if I may?brFirst, I just ordered a precalculus book An algebra and trig book, and a college geometry book all arriving next week I'm not sure what I'll remember Do you think these books are a good starting point? I want to be solid in my basics Any suggestions?brSecond, are there any proficiency tests out there that could help down the road with some kind of certification like a bar exam or if I am successful? I'm curious about the math that follows where I left off in University Could I do anything with my studies, or will it just be basically a hobby? (Don't want to teach)brI guess I'll find out soon if this was a good idea, and find out what I remember, but I do remember enjoying college math and doing really well in Diff-eq The (only 2 credits) Statistics class was the toughest math class I took Don't know how I passed it Is there a math road were statistics and probability aren't that important? Those are my current thoughts Thanks, James in Colorado
Comment from : @jamescooper6354

@dhickey5919
Thank you for the video! I have half of a bookcase full of math textbooks! brbrFor a future video would you consider explaining how your thinking process for math problems helps you understand them better? I've read how Albert Einstein used thought experiments to help him in his understanding of physics problems

@ahaszsaddssd9931
How do you ensure you're not buying two times the same book?
Comment from : @ahaszsaddssd9931

@lesonyrra
The only downside: moving those books I look around at my bookshelves and consider moving (which I want to eventually do) and think whew I've temporarily stopped buying
Comment from : @lesonyrra

@budgarner3522
Techies and teachers ought to I actually found my HS Algebra 1, 2 and Math Analysis textbooks in a 2nd hand store And Half Price bookstores Always a good source for examples and problems But it's the techniques that unlock understanding, a way to teach and how to apply the math once you understand it I still have my comic collection with issues older than you Will sell someday

@theaspire233
Once in my class I smelled my book and my teacher punished me for the whole day can somebody tell the reason
Comment from : @theaspire233

@edal7066
I don't think a mathematician should collect math books to the extent that you do When used solely for educational purposes, I believe having a good book is essential, and having one per field of interest is often not enough When talking about monographs, since they are so specific, learning means gaining insight into the author's mind to understand the intricacies of the proofs This can take years, and collecting such books may be a waste of time
Comment from : @edal7066

@theaspire233
The only dream i am having from childhood is to have a math book collection I think this video can work as a motivation and a strategy to collect them also brReally liked it
Comment from : @theaspire233

@sanjursan
Watson Fulks, way cool! That was the book we used for Advanced Calc in 1969, and I am using it again now, along with several others a bit "stiffer" to take a deeper look into Real Analysis Pretty good book and not too challenging My advice: Keep those math books! Btw, I paid $1095 for my new hardback from the Hiram College book store 54 years ago
Comment from : @sanjursan

@valkomilev9238
I collect math books (one for each topic) because they will never become outdated Math never changes

@ZMDoom
I really do enjoy seeing the names of people who owned or used the books before me It's part of the reason I've always put my name, start date, and end date on all of my books My favorite find was in a former high school Geometry book from the 80s The only person to write their name in it ended up being a clinical psychologist

I collect math books, but mainly at the undergraduate level I am self-studying and I have approximately 950 books I have found a number of excellent suggestions from your channel I have them all cataloged in an excel spreadsheet, sorted by topic If you have yours cataloged, I'm sure we would all love to see what your entire collection looks like
Comment from : @jefff4898

@corbinwilson660
I have 35 math books or so, and I got most of them from my college They had a bunch of math books that they weren’t using anymore, or which got sent by the publishing company hoping the college would use them, and most of them are very basic math books But it’s a nice starting spot and it was free, so I can’t complain
Comment from : @corbinwilson660

@chasesutherland1168
I collect books about music and music theory For me, it's about having all the available information ready no matter what Sometimes, I find an interesting book that talks about something I never thought of I just got a book called on the sensations of tone the other day and it's full of really complex (to me) math, something I never really think about when listening to musicbrbrplus, having a nice bookshelf just looks cool

@LordHarryWotton
Me, eyeing my thousands of MtG cards in boxes stuffed in the closet Alright, I'll buy another math bookbrbrBut on a more serious note, I have a lot of books on math Some are educational texts, others are about math or numbers I find math intriguing and fascinating, but as a High School dropout, it is not my strong area I've learned some algebra on my own I would like to eventually learn calculus, but it's more just so I can play around with blackholes as I have questions about their deathbrbrI've found library sales to be a great place for educational texts
Comment from : @LordHarryWotton

@hxc7273
You got me into the habit of collecting math books and now I collect abstract algebra books because that's my favorite math subject
Comment from : @hxc7273

@schrodingcheshirecat
I bid $40 back in 2012 at a junior college library sale on 4 boxes of books The next morning I found I had won the bid but it turned out to be for 4 ROWS of boxes It was over 5,000 books Had to go through and donate half the books day 1 brMy wife had a fit when I showed up at the apartment with 2500 booksbrShe was not happy
Comment from : @schrodingcheshirecat

@RandomNPC-sy6gj
As a bibliophile - and with the continuation of print to digital conversion - I think collecting hard copy books is a great thing for a person to do (I went to the old university and the entire upper floor had all the books removed and computers put in - it was almost dystopian to see a library without books)
Comment from : @RandomNPC-sy6gj

@ignacioa4114
if you can't read them, you can at least sniff them 😛
Comment from : @ignacioa4114

@TinyMaths
I've already got too many books (non-math) for the size of the space I live in, but I've started ' very slowly' collecting them since I began watching your channel regularly My collection is just 5 books First two are my original A-level core mathematics book I got second hand, and a relatively new discrete math textbook brbr I'm blaming you for the other three🙂, a very thick, James Stewart Calculus Textbook and, the Blizer Intermediate Algebra (awaiting delivery of that one), and also, an introductory book on geometry which was recommended by someone in the comments long ago I love having these books and I see myself eventually clearing some space and starting to collect more, albeit at a very slow pace
Comment from : @TinyMaths

@highviewbarbell
A little late on that question pal, I've got over a hundred Dover books!

I’m from France 🇫🇷 and here USA’s math book are pretty expensive when you take into consideration the shipping costbrI recently bought Physics by Giancoli - 8,50$ for the book but 38$ for the deliverybrbrI love english math book for their hardcover edition In France we often have only paperback and while it is really convenient, it is a little less valuable to collect

@FlatEarthMath
Should you collect Math books? Does a bear poop in the woods? A fellow across the seas asked me once, "How do they teach factoring quadratic with a leading coefficient? How does that 'pepper guy' do it?" So I pulled down my copy of Blitzer Precalculus and discovered he teaches it using the brute force method, the same one I was taught 40 years ago The only downside of collecting math books is marital strife
