Do you think retirement at 50 is realistic for you?

I retired this year at 52 No regrets Traveling internationally rn with my dear wife and am enjoying this new time with her Could've retired at 50, but fear kept me from doing it However, i was laser focused on getting out of consumer debt for 10 years Make plan and stick to it Delayed gratification pays off in the long run!

Nice video I'm 42 and would like to retire at 50 The day I turn 59 1/2 I'll never have to worry about money again My 401k is a juggernaut My concern is I simply do not want to workat all Nearly 20 years of mostly 60+ hour weeks have drained me I've been 100 debt free for 11 years and own a free & clear home Does the desire for work ever want to come back? I just took a week off and still have zero desire to do anything

I retired at the age of 51 I'll be 54 in several months I'm not worried about running out of income I don't depend upon investments I have a veteran annuity and a Department of Justice pension I retired as a financial analyst in a law enforcement agency Both incomes has a cost of living adjustments and both has healthcare benefits So far I haven't touched my investments nor emergency fund bucket Although I can with no penalties I have no credit card debt I do have a small financial management consulting firm I'm teaching without a PhD I don't receive any SSI, SSDI or social security benefits Life is short We have mandatory retirement at 57 I figured why wait The opportunity cost - I already won the rat race, why keep playing 😂

My plan is to aim for 50 I am close to having enough income streams setup to survive in investments, but the goal is to start my own company making video games and hopefully make enough I won't need to use investment income streams I am expecting the first two years to be a learning experience but hopefully as I go will get better at not only making games but also monetizing them

@christopherhennessey8991
I did it at 55 , because I had the credited years of service to be able to retire and claim a full pension

@Mitzi73
Age 50 is too young to retire unless you’re a multi millionaire or you have a health condition that will shorten your life For the average person it is too young 55 should be the absolute minimum retirement age and really only for men because they statistically live shorter than women For women, we should not retire before 62 at a minimum

@TheRealAbrahamLincoln
One strategy for health care I am looking at is the Affordable Care Act During the period before I am eligible for Medicare, I want to only take a small amount of money from my IRAs under rule 72t and rely on my taxable accounts for most expenses This way my taxable income is low and my subsidy for health care is high

I'm looking to retire between 50-52 and even now have begun backing down on the number of hours I am working I have no doubt I can reinvent myself because I'm already doing so I have heard stories about people retiring to only find they don't know what to do with the free time and I have a hard time understanding this :)

There you have it Life is a competition People with more resources always have the upper hand Winners get everything Losers get absolutely nothing

@webcompanion
The ultimate question for those who have retired at 50 is if you could do it all over (let's say you're 60 now and looking back), would you retire at 50 again?
Comment from : @webcompanion

@RetirementTravelers
Reinvention for us meant retirement at 55 and travel full time with a YouTube channel The amount of learning we are doing with the travel and channel keeps us busy and active We think it is important to retire “to” something once you have enough savings to live the retirement lifestyle to desire Thanks for sharing some good tips John and Bev

@billestep6804
The wheel strategy is a good way Been using it for awhile It takes money to make money
Comment from : @billestep6804

@garyg5347
if i need 120,000 per year in retirement at 55 how much do you think is enough to retire with little worries? 4MbrM? 45MM?
Comment from : @garyg5347

@adam872
I'm nearing my 50's and have long had a plan to get off the employment hamster wheel well before official retirement age We're on track to give up work or at the very least give it up full time by 55 and I'm content with that I don't reckon I'll quit completely and rather just do some part time consulting That would suit me in terms of keeping active and a bit of income coming in, but not having day to day management responsibility I'm looking forward to winding down over the next few years and doing what I want when I want

Additional pro Young enough to pick up and move or downsize I retired at 51 We sold the big house up north and bought a smaller one in our favorite vacation area We were young enough to be able to sort, throw away, pack and move Not something we would probably do in a decade or so No regrets
Comment from : @southwest7977

@bigtoeknee11
That's why bucket strategies work well save up 2 to 3 years cash and on down years pull from that and stay moderately aggressive in the market

@anditclee
I’m 50 and ready to leave corporate america my problem is I make $120k husband makes $60k we just paid off our dream home and have paid off cars only about $60k in savings but $11 in retirements Not sure if it’s enough I don’t want to tap retirements yet so will try to find a low stress job that pays $$ good thing is minimum wage is $15/hr

Thank you for this video Recently I left my career and became a school secretary I work in a small, rural charter school There are plenty of paid vacations and great benefits I never work on the weekends or in the evenings so there is plenty of time to watch over my investments It's perfect for me I think other 50 somethings should consider school employment
