Turing of distributed systems This guy is HIMbrI have always said and history proves that cs is basically maths in the end Hence why all these algos are solved by mathematicians and the way cs is being taught in 99 of the unis is wrong We are being taught to code instead of program Sadly , most of us are scarred by the way maths is being portrayed When infact everything in our lives revolves around math be it explicitly or implicit in nature

as a programmer myself, i can safely say that he precisely described things in such a way that made it impossible for me to understand what he accomplished
Comment from : drout

Calculate
Discovering problems to solve is all about exposure, and one way of getting exposure on problems to solve is to work in industries the other is to surf the internet and just think about things you wished that were solved by weren't

terrible arrogant - programmers are not only typing code !!! - he nothing without tim berners lee, Kegningham and Richtie - What is more important in Formual 1 the driver or the pease of steel with some wheels called Ferrari? ideas have many people - without handworker and engeneers - the persons with ideas would live in caves - It needs pation to do things good - ideas are clouds in the air

At 3:52 time mark there is a man at a blackboard writing something like Einstein's equation, but using capital "M" and capital "C"brThe former in scientific language is reserved for the prefix "mega" (although the Brits disagree), and the latter is the SI symbol for Coulomb, the unit of electric charge So what is MC^2 ? It is not even megacoulombs to the power of 2, because there are no brackets 😃😆
Comment from : Sergey D

Sergey D
I understand that American youngsters have their own slang, but when Quanta Magazine refuses to write "Mathematics" and resorts to "Math" instead, is it trying to appeal to those who wear sagging pants?

Rabiyu Audu
If you wanna be successful, you most take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life

M Meis
Smoky Rooms filled with drafting tables and engineers offices, i knew barely any math but was trained to draw anything an engineer designed fast When computer mainframes came in 1974 at my Junior College - i jumped on it I could input to the computers with my digitizer pen and 2 keyboards to enter the draw commands for the green screen CRTs I got so proficient the computer would freeze and display a warning to me flashing "Thinking", i had merely filled its limited input buffers that ran on large reel tape drives I saw the first 11"square floppy disks I Proudly announced to all that I had become "faster than the speed of light" that the mainframe the geeks told me was supposedly working at br When we started entering formulas in this cad language to determine critical material dimensions for analysis by the engineers, is when i found a love of math Great times I lived thru Thanks to men like that

R M
Eh No disrespect, but the idea of computing sharing the same memory is not an inferior concept to sending messages In fact, the latter soundsvterribly inefficient Dustributing computing led to the limitations on computing we have today Im sure a new way with features from borh concepts will not favor one or the other when need arises

mike N1234
At first, when i switched over to a computer science degree i thought that i had wasted the last 25 years of my life studying maths and that it wasnt needed for the degree or career i am switching to (although i enjoyed it, im talking about career-wise) But actually having only studied programming for a couple of months the two seem to go hand in hand, you have to think very logically and be creative I cant quite put my finger on how but having solved many maths problems has definitely helped to grasp coding concepts And it also seems that my calculus studies will be used in deep learning

Andy McKibben
This video should be treasured Programming is starting to look different with the advent of no-code infrastructure I went to school for CS later in life and was completely astonished that there were 2nd year CS students who didn't know what a command prompt was 90 of my class relied on snippets from GeeksForGeeks and Stack
Comment from : Andy McKibben

Raspaah
his byzantine generals problem paper is absolutely amazing
Comment from : Raspaah

Kazabite Boltiz
I didn't understand one thing He said that the bakery algorithm doesn't fail even if a process's order number changes from a 47 to a 9999 If that happened, the priority for that process should be way lower, which should delay that process and put it after the other processes What did he mean by 'it still works'?
Comment from : Kazabite Boltiz

Rationalist Faith
1:58, the comparison of coding to typing is ridiculous You still need to know a lot about the language and platform you're developing on before you can start "coding" brYou can type without knowing any language or syntactic rules brbrHe's clearly overly biased in theory land That's why he's busy writing papers to get validation from his cohorts Of which many have very little benefits in the real non-theoretical world brIf he shipped more products for customers, he'd be less biased Unfortunately, many "smart" people rather stay in their perfect(read: simple) little theoretical world without the friction of the objective realitybrbrIt's a free a world, but he should abstain from "gate-keeping" coding/programming and computer science It's a predictable behavior from these types, as it gives them some respite and rationalization about their life choices of staying in their ivory towers of theoretical fiefdoms
Comment from : Rationalist Faith

Lynn Demarest
Stumbling upon something is nothing to be proud of Maybe you feel "fortunate" or "grateful"
