As a banker I know that each branch is ran individually regarding how much cash on hand The busier the branch, the more cash on hand and is given on a first come first serve basis and typically is limited at around 10k, however if you’re there on the right day or time where they have higher than normal cash on hand sometimes they can accommodate to even 20k just depends on their cash fluctuations Given that you had the same issue at the same branch twice it’s possible they under order cash due to possible miscalculation, a new hire, or even forgetting to place an order brbrAs far as closing the business account and issuing a cashiers check you always have to issue a cashiers check and match the title of the account, unless it is being withdrawn in cash It is my assumption that she assumed you wanted a check but she should’ve asked you if prefer a check or cash which clearly you wanted cashbrbrI’d be cautious of smaller banks and CUs as if shit really hit the fan they’d be the first to go and are normally a lot less accessible than larger banks

I don’t think a lot of people understand banks almost never carry a ton of cash It just depends on the clients that bank sees Generally you have to order anything above like 15k because just don’t carry a ton and you have to think other people are looking to withdraw as well They can’t just run out of money and turn people away

I think the US federal reserve notes are being removed from circulation to bring on the "new" design notes The old money is paper trash now The banks can't get any new supply in this transition period This is a problem they are having We should have the new system soon I hope or this will get even worse

Any bank that doesn't have $1,600 in cash for withdrawal should not be in business I've read stories like this one and it seems that they're trying to get rid of cash Remember the coin shortages? That was a test run for the cashless society I always asked myself what happened to all the existing coins that's been circulating for years? Those existing coins had to go somewherebrbrI've started using more cash because my local bank started this new program called "Spending Insights" When I log into my account, they have breakdown of my spending habits, even predicting future payments This is totally different than my regular monthly bank statement This made me feel like they were spying on me and watching every dime I spend or trying to tell me how to spend my money I didn't like that at all From now on half of my check comes out of the bank in cash and is locked up in a heavy duty fire proof safe

I have always saved a bunch of cash in a safe, gold, silver, post office money orders etc I keep some in the bank but don’t completely trust them One time I took out 8,000 to buy a car and they made me fill out all these forms and gave me the 5th degree like I was a drug dealer That was it for me Cash gets moldy though so put some moisture absorbers with it

Hey Steve, I used to work at a few banks about 20 years ago as a teller My information may be a bit "old", but one thing I remember is that if someone wanted to deposit or withdraw $10,000, we had to file a "Currency Transaction Report" with the customer which went to the government to simply report the cash transaction It's not reporting suspicious activity but just simply notifying the federal government of the cash transaction If someone said "forget it", pulled some of the cash back, and tried to deposit a smaller amount, we were to file a different report called a "Suspicious Activity Report" This is a behind the scenes report which was basically notifies the federal government about that specific activity, which the government considers suspicious Basically the SAR would tell the federal government that the customer is trying to avoid the CTR by pulling back some of the cash deposit and identifies the customer Keep in mind, this was about 20 years ago I'm not sure if or how the bank rules have changed over the years, but the CTR/SAR is something to be aware of Although I have opinions about it, I won't say what I think about it here in the comments Aside from that, I'm wondering if some banks have a shortage of physical cash (not sure if it's intentional or unintentional) or have internal limits to how much cash they will let people withdraw before making it more of an issue So many people use debit and credit cards today, that it doesn't seem cash is used today like how it used to be It definitely seems like things are going more digital, like you said in the video I don't have the answer, but these are some ideas of why that could be happening with these cash withdrawal issues

Same, USAA accounts do not allow to move out more than $2000 even as electronic transfer It will go through if you withdraw it from the other side As long as that works, there will be a way to get the money
