The salary is crap The work is brutal Every year I give 30 of my weekends up Go into IT security From the tax perspective, the only thing nice about it is the ability to protect my friends and family from our corrupt government Additionally, why would you want to go into a career with ridiculous education requirements and the highest continuing education requirements out there Seriously, go into software or the trades Good luck replacing welders with AI Accountants, on the other hand, 10 years, and most of us are obsolete Comment from : Steven |

Hey, @financialcontroller - do you have tips on how to work with an incompetent manager? Sometimes I feel like I am doing my manager's job and he has neither the accounting nor management skills He is basically Michael Scott and my manager got the job because of his 25 years of experience on his resume The only thing he knows is probably how to talk crap (again, just like Michael) I really really want to get rid of him and his salary could probably be mine Comment from : Jasper Herr |

Is $100k supposed to be a lot in 2022? Comment from : Chris |
|
I started at a small to mid sized CPA firm in October 2016 in MN with a salary of $52,500 + $400 bonus for goals (only bonus received as they canceled it for anyone under a manager) This job required 2,268 hours per year and around 1,600-1,800 billable hours per year I did work more than that throughout the year but only worked up to maybe 65 hours for a couple weeks out of each year (auditing governmental entities)
br
brIncreases were:
brSep 2017 $55,000 4 increase
brSep 2018 $57,500 45 increase
brSep 2019 $62,000 (promoted to Senior) 78 increase
brSep 2020 $64,000 32 increase (If it was hourly pay, this would equate to $2656/hour)
br
brI left in December 2020 and switched to a Senior Accountant position at a governmental entity I made $90,900 or $4370/hour (42 increase) in 2021, after health and dental insurance was paid for In 2022, I will end with $96,500+ and 2023 should be $104,700 before the inflation factor (COLA Adjustment) to be determined in a couple of months (December 2022) Please note, this is with 40 hours a week year round! So glad I left busy season behind I do not have my CPA either I am never stressed and have 2 positions to jump up to above me potentially (or I could jump ship to another place that does the same exact accounting and move into a higher paying position, even if it's in a different state) Top salaries in the MN area are around $170k but CA and NY can be over $200k, although those positions come with more stress and political issues
br
brI have a friend at a different CPA firm who earned $110k in 2021 after bonus as a Senior/Supervisor but also put in 2,800 hoursso his hourly pay would be about $3481/hour
br
brIn my opinion, it is worth starting off at a CPA firm but only stay if you plan to become a partner where you can make $150k to $600k+? But you will also have to work super long hours still Depends on how much time you are willing to give up for the pay you receive Thought I would share my experience anyway! Hope it helps someone Comment from : zach Hecksel |
|

I was told 70k after 2 years B4 is kinda the standard I'd rather make 55k and work 40 hours a week than 70k, but nowadays 70k is like a good minimum for a comfortable life with some degree of financial freedom - this is in the average, or really median, American market Comment from : Bill Bopperton |

Hi, I have seen many of your videos recently and I like them so much BTW, I'm subscribed Could you please talk about the agreement between the US, Canada, and Mexico, related to the recognition of the CPA in all of those countries?brbrI don't know if you know what I'm talking about, but there is an agreement that says that if you are a CPA (in Mexico's case is CPC) in any of those countries, the other two countries recognize the CPA status This is thanks to the USMCA and different institutions like the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Instituto de Contadores Publicos de México, and the Canadian equivalentbrbrAnd most important, have you had any experience with Certified foreign accountants?brbrThank you! Comment from : Jiosimar |

Age discrimination is pervasive in the accounting field 80 old men and women on the supreme court are making decisions about how we live daily based on a document written 200 plus years ago, but if you are over 50 with advance degrees and a CPA license, you are considered too old to be in the accounting field Think about this if you are planning to go into the accounting field Comment from : Marvelous S |

We might make a decent living as accountants but it’s a crappy profession The workload sucks, the actual work sucks, sitting at a desk for decades sucks I work just as many if not more hours in corporate accounting as I did in public accounting Maybe at some small companies or government jobs you can get a good work life balance At a larger publicly traded or private equity backed company where you may have several acquisitions to integrate, implementation of new Accounting standards such as ASC 606 and ASC 842, implementing new accounting and reporting systems you’ll be working 55-60 hours per week if not more unless you’re a lower level staff/senior acct who may only be responsible for a few specific areas of the acctg/reporting processes Don’t become an accountant, do something better with your life Comment from : Fuqoff |
