When you get a raise, raise your investments Your after-taxes paycheck will determine your lifestyle I'm maxxing out my 401k and Roth contributions at this time One trap though when it comes time to retire and you are now allowed to spend more, that can be hard because you will always feel guilty I see this in my older family members

Absolutely true I have never saved and realised recently time is definitely running out I put together a monthly incoming and outgoing plan and was shocked at how my money was seeping away I have now stopped spending indiscriminately and am surprised to find I actually have savings and I'm not going without Wish I had watched these types of videos years ago I am actually enjoying my money more and love to see it growing

It is better to invest now You will never be younger than you are today and there will never be a perfect time to invest Due to compounding, which Einstein called the 8th wonder of the world, you can get rich slowly from investing if you do it from a young enough age

1 I think a 10 return on investment is a best case scenario; 5-6 us more realistic br2 Parking money in low yield savings accounts is a bummer - instead, put it in a low fee total stock market ETF (stay clear of mutual funds as you may be taxed on unrealized gains) br3 Vanguard Funds are an example of low fee funds br4 All of this is my opinion and not investment advice

Great advice Early in my career I saw people that couldn't take very generous early retirement packages because they had no savings What??? I vowed to save the max and never regretted it 30 years later when my company declared bankruptcy I took the package and that basically put me over the finish line I had to work another 5 years to get to 59 1/2 but there was minimal stress knowing a good retirement income was waiting

I would be retiring or working less in 5 years and I just want to know best how people split their pay, how much of it goes into savings, spending or investments I earn around $165K per year but nothing to show for it yet

Excellent vid and content Lane Thanks for sharing your knowledge with your audience My wife and I are saving for a house that we want to buy in about five years My research shows that with a short-term savings goal such as a house, the stock market is not the place to park the money Is this the case? And if so, where should we park our money for a shorter savings goal such as a home purchase in the next five or so years
