I worked in an apartment complex in 99 one of the buildings was struck by lightning and caught on fire the next day I saved one of the girls gone wild tapes took it home and rewired it myself of course cuz I was 18 Never did it before but an 18 and something like that you always figure it out a way

I've been collecting lately and what's been interesting for me is the amount of odd and obscure stuff that's worth something As far as non-sealed tapes I've found, a lot of strange/unusual stuff that i've never heard of seems to go for above $30 as opposed to more recognizable films that tend to go for around $10

I encourage you to watch the Karl Jobst video on Heritage Auctions and it’s history of scandals before you use them as a reference again brbrWhile plenty of VHS out there are worth good money (my personal record is $199) these huge sales are more often a scam brbrPeople talk about money laundering but a lot of the time if you dig into these record breaking sales it’s bought by a shell owned by the auction company or another auction company in order to artificially pump the market brbrThe same thing happened to the video games market, the grading company was buying their own graded items through a straw purchaser at huge mark ups to try to make their grading company look better

As a former vcr repairman in the 1990s I never understood the collecting of video tapes, tapes by nature degrade even if it's never played, they are magnetic with metal and that metal for lack of a better term "falls off the tape" I remember years ago when people were collecting old 8-track music tapes, once again they will degrade over time, I just could never justify spending that kind of money on video tapes But to each his own, your video was a fun watch

Back in the late 90s my friends dad owned a video store and I remember seeing those beta tapes in boxes at thier home they had a lot of them I never would have guessed they would be worth anything they may have threw those away after the store went out of buisiness

There's just no way you can ever convince me a VHS tape is worth thousands of dollars Who is an expert on grading VHS tapes? How are they going about that when a box is sealed? It just feels like a market that was created by and for people who need to feel good about having junk I'm going to go look through my junk and see if someone will grade it because once it's graded, you've created a market, because once someone can say "it's an 8/10," someone will be willing to buy it

As a kid I had tons of vhs tapes (sadly most are gone as over the years I’ve upgraded to Dvd and now Blu-ray) I have a massive collection of Blu-ray’s, but I will always love vhs! There was no experience half as cool as going to the video store and renting 3-4 vhs at a time! Fun video, thanks!
