I remember I suffered a lot from doing homework from classes and spending hours on them By myself just to understand it brbrI will spend a few hours on homework and still not understand it And people will finished before me or quicker than me And they understand it It takes me a much longer time for me to finally understand something or completely finish my work without any mistakes brbrAnd people will say that I am very slow and stupid because of it brbrHave you ever dealt with this before or struggled with it?

I have dyslexia and dyspraxia I, too was diagnosed at an early age and at that time in the UK, dyslexia was known in the 80's they didn't know much about it, as for dyspraxia I was diagnosed at about the same time So I was given a blanket diagnosis because again, no one knew about them really From about the age of 13/14 years old I was told from drama examiners, because I did drama exams, that there would be no point in me doing drama because there would be a waste of time Cut to, last year when I graduated with a BA degree in BA Theatre Performance and Production (Acting), so it can be done!

I totally feel you I am smart in a lot of areas but I have an IEP, they noticed it in the 5th grade and from the 5th grade all the up to high school I would be in IEP classes but only certain classes I was really bad at math only bc I learned slower than the rest of my classmates like I get math but only if it’s explained to me at a slower pace & once I got it I got it!! I can’t just get it off the dome Now I tell myself “the world is moving too fast they need to slow down” 😂❤ I struggled in school so bad bc the school system doesn’t take their time with us For years after high school I doubted myself bc I thought I wasn’t smart enough but no I am just as smart it’s just we don’t get it as soon as we hear it, they got to explain and show us at a slower pace With that being said I am trying school again! I avoided it for so long bc I have many talents outside of education but they haven’t been working out for me but now I’m going back to school this fall at Liberty University for my Bachelors for Psychology & I know it’s going to be 10x harder but it’ll be a cold day in hell before I not get my degree Just keep pushing mama I am so happy I came across this video I’m glad I’m not alone ❤️

Desire, thank you so much for sharing this video with everyone I am a black woman with a learning disability myself In my elementary school year, I was diagnosed with a language processing disorder and diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder as an adult I believe that we need more videos about adults with learning disabilities because a lot of people in society mostly believe that children can have learning disabilities and adults can not Believe or not I had so many people in my face about me not having a learning disability no more due to the fact I graduated college with a bachelor's in special education It is very heart breaking and demeaning to me because it decredits my success on how much effort I had to put on where I am at now I feel that people focus to much on disabilities that are visible and easy to see where as disabilities that are invisible are overlooked and misunderstood As for children, people are quick to believe that it's for a child to have a learning disability where as adults are often viewed as invencible, superhero like of not having anything wrong with them at all

I am from London, UK and I am an upcoming musician and I work part time in a special needs school I have a learning disability myself where I struggle with processing information, maths and learning things slower than others I couldn’t until I was five so therefore I went to special school and I received from a speech and language therapist there So I can now speak I wanted to go to a normal school, but my I had serve IQ score which measures how well you process information, problem solving, reason and have cognitive skills IQ is what we call in the UK, but is it the same in USA? That’s why I couldn’t go to a normal school I believe I was being forced by social services Now I’m 23 so I’ve developed so well Even I get on a bus I see normal kids going to a normal school and I wish I was like them I even have a friend who doesn’t have learning difficulties and I wish I was like her The social services see me as vulnerable I am to extent but not significant The reason why they say it is because of my learning disability I started going to a normal college at 16 and the teachers wouldn’t see me like the normal students I do have hard times believing in myself but no matter what people say I just keep trying I can be successful I have passed my music course a few years back in college I know I am not stupid Thank you for sharing your story as this really inspired me ❤❤ Especially as black women we sometimes get misunderstood for who we are not our needs Keep going girl, it sounds like you were able to manage your challenges 😊

This was really beautiful! Thank you for sharing this and being ok to be open about having a learning disability Having a learning disability has always been a dark secret I would try to keep people from knowing bc I was ashamed of myself I’m more open about it now and don’t let it define me & I accept who I am with it bc it’s apart of who I am One thing I I do have is I do feel like I’m not enough for a significant other Like a partner wouldn’t accept me for having a LD specifically auditory processing struggles Thanks for sharing ❤

Thanks for sharing your empowering story, Desirae (': it's really inspiring and motivating I can relate to everything how it feels to be in your shoes with a learning disability and ngl it took years to improve my learning skills with excellent exceeds for my academic performance My parents really encouraged me that I can do it and they both predict that I'll have a successful future during my livelihood Throughout my academic journey in grade-school, I was from a regressive learner to a optimistic learner, and I've been improving myself step by step outgrowing my ability as I learned to help myself I despise my 4th-5th grade teacher because she's such a pessimist and ruthless by verbally abusing me and my classmates in a vulnerable way with a phrase that we have a small brain and will be forever slow Moreover, she's so unpredictable and I personally had messed up life from the fact that I have to repeat 5th grade because of her but eventually I feel liberated after graduating from elementary Fortunately, my parents enrolled me to Sylvan Learning Center when I was a kid to get good strageties on my education from prospective tutors and I used to attend there every Monday through Saturday I remember recieving a lot of certificates accomplishing two subjects: English and Math and I made my parents proud that I was becoming progressive Another disablity that I want to point is I used to struggle in writing in my English classes and I was extremely slow embracing what to write and I had some grammer errors But what helped me maintain my writing skills is journaling because it's so therapeatic and it keeps me grounded when I share my thoughts as I constantly elaborate my day, and it's been my hobby for 9 years I'm currently on my 25th journal and I also love provide some artifacts and print out collages to narrate and depict them; being creative Math is definitely my minor subject, too because it's really hard to understand the equations and word problems as well lmao Thank goodness I passed all the math courses after all the hard work Community college is a great choice and ngl I personally sacrificed due to my low academic performance and facing some encounters attempting to bully me and I was nearly close to giving up (long story) But I learned how to redeem myself and continue my education, and a fellow once told me is to "never stop walking throuh your dreams"! I was so delighted that I graduated 4 months ago with my AA Degree as a Theatre major and I knew that I had the potential that I can do it! Not only I'm proud of my accomplishment but I did this for my family and friends and show my representation that I survived after all the sacrifice I have dealt with! I'm strong as Wonder Woman!!!!

Well I don’t have a learning disability but when I was in my middle school I was basically failing all my classes They were testing me if I had a learning disability the test was really easy the teacher that was testing me think something was wrong with my brain so the speech teacher disagree and she said “I don’t see that” but the two teacher disagree that really made me feel better how two teacher stuck on my side my parents decided put on my IEP for only speech which is reading and math but the speech teacher sometimes be in the class with me it made me feel a type away like I was dumb but I knew it was for my own good cause I can’t fail 7 grade people still make fun of me because I get pull out of the class
