Eric Lapointe
It really sucks when we are spending all this money to have these coins graded and they all come back cleaned, there is a really big difference between cleaned and what they call cleaned! Even if the coin was cleaned with chemicals and a microfiber if it's in great condition it should still get that grade like that MS64 $10 Indian! That is a gorgeous coin in excellent condition And you got a really good grade but even if it was cleaned you still should have got that 64 as long as there isnt visible cleaning marks! I'm so afraid to send in my gold coins they're all pre 33

Let me hold them 😉

Chances are that these pieces belonged to individuals which kept them for years as a form of rainy day as their prized possessions Perhaps e(especially the small denominations)

Great video I agree on the cleaning issue Those don’t appear cleaned and after watching your video, I will be checking my gold pieces that I purchased as uncirculated On older uncirculated pieces, I mostly have pre 33 US gold, Mexican Pesos, British Sovereigns and several one and four Austrian Ducats (I’m not worried about the Ducats because they’re restrikes) All of which were purchased over a lifetime and when gold was under $1300 Troy oz brbrI have always planned to have all the pre 33 gold and some semi key pesos graded by NGC But after the experience you shared with NGC I May research PCGS and would like to see what results you got with PCGS Everyone knows that gold is soft and simply owning a gold coin for 100 years, even in a safe or secure box coinage can touch a stronger metal or maybe it was placed in a cloth bag and rubbed against other coins brbrIt seems that NGC was wrong especially on the 3 of your pieces I have a few $10 Indian Heads that I purchased from APMEX or JM Bullion for basically the price of spot gold that are the same grade of 63 and 64 graded by PCGS that look similar to what you have but are not listed as cleaned I noticed that the slabs and labels were from around 1990’s and they could have been more liberal in their grading of gold Just a guess Great job on the video By The Way

Hi Ben, Luster flow is not correct on your UNC detailed coins IMO very lucky to get $10 Indian graded NGC & PCGS tend to be more forgiving on $3 gold Have a great evening PNG Dealer

Lucas J
I adore the close ups to the US gold, it's my goal to eventually get an 1853 gold $1! Preferably graded

This was a great Video, Thanks Ben

I'm about to do the same with my gold - I wish I didn't have to pay for a membership and all of the other costs - is now an awful time to send coins in because of the season/condition of our countryadvice?
Comment from : Andrew Hart

Evenrude Ranger
Did you make this youtube channel to fund your coin grading addiction? I know sending in those beautiful coins to get a cleaned label put on them can't be a profitable venture! But you seem like you have a great shop and a wealth of knowledge! The most entertaining channel on youtube!

Natalie Chadwick
Love the channel

Cordial saludo desde Colombia tengo una moneda similar de oro del año de 1864 de 4 reales si es tan amable de colaborarme con esta moneda si es americana o de otro pais
Comment from : jorge arturo fernandez zuñiga

Evenrude Ranger
I think the commenters who complain about your analysis of the grading might be accounts made by PCGS or NGC to dissuade you from exposing instances of their sub-par grading!

J Short Stacks
Sounds like u should be a pcgs customer

kirkmink
The hairlines seemed apparent to me The cartwheel effect obviously skips over the cleaned sections Beautiful coins regardless By the way, I had the $3 at AU53 and the $10 definitely looked MS63 or higher I look for directionality of the hairlines when determining a coin is cleaned or not I saw that on the 3 that were judged cleaned YMMV
Comment from : kirkmink

Coin Struck
Interesting video, thank you US gold coins from that period have some very beautiful designs brI also like the word “preposterous” and will aim to use it daily from now on
Comment from : Coin Struck

CYBYZ
Hey why don't we flip a coin? Yeah I agree, let PCGS have a crack at'em
Comment from : CYBYZ

Ryan G
I think that gold that is over 100 years old should not look like it’s fresh from the mint unless it’s a proof, gold luster is somewhat different than silver luster There is a appearance that may look orange to a rose goldish haze that presents an original surface But at the same time it’s still subjective Nice coins nonetheless
Comment from : Ryan G

Corey Nagle
So I was just looking on your website you have 2 1931 S wheat cents one is 65 RD (NGC) the other is 64 RB (PCGS)looking at them the 64 looks ro be more red and doesnt have a large face spot I guess my question is why wouldnt you crack the 64 out and send to NGC?? It is a great looking coin
Comment from : Corey Nagle

Broc Mitchell
Worst case scenario they should call them MS-60 Look at low end proof coins PF-62 and lower They usually have hairlines from an obvious wipe Why one standard for PF and another for MS?
Comment from : Broc Mitchell

1:09 wow brLovely coin even though it's cleaned 🤩

Tim Lange
before you showed the grade of the first on , i said to my self , to many fine scratches and inconsistent luster in the fields and that it was cleaned ,i am not an expert ,it was a guess WOW ,the last one was not cleaned that's BS,
Comment from : Tim Lange

Gareth Bates
Damn, the luster on those so-called coins seems real to me, as the cart wheels I see Maybe on the chin on that one coin, was cleaned, yet all your cleaned coins looked good to me I am not sure if I like NGC, I am a PCGS type of guy I agree with you
Comment from : Gareth Bates

Joey Patterson
Cleaned or not NGC will make those idiotic calls to control the population PCGS I think would have let those three go You do have some beautiful coins but I would hold back a little from NGC and when u see questionable coins that u feel (might) be a candidate for cleaned I would send those to PCGS Great video and the coins are beautiful Have a great day !
Comment from : Joey Patterson

tim fenrich
Insane😳Send em 👍Awesome content!!Let the games begin💥
Comment from : tim fenrich

roger martin
I think the reason you dispute the cleanings is because your looking at the fields You need to look at the high points and you can easily see the wiped areas with luster break
Comment from : roger martin

tim maybanks
That 32 indian is outstanding
Comment from : tim maybanks

Superior Deftrex
Say it with me everyone, COIN GRADING IS SUBJECTIVE!!! Also, you mad bruh?
Comment from : Superior Deftrex

MétéoMan
Very inconsistent grading The reason why I don't bother with grading
Comment from : MétéoMan

R Crandall
I don't know how totell if a gold coin has been cleaned, but i do know I'd love to have any of them in my collection
Comment from : R Crandall

40belowful
I agree with you one the 3 coins graded cleaned
Comment from : 40belowful

carmine
I usually agree with NGC most of the time but for them to call those 3 coins cleaned is just prosperous I've seen cleaned gold coins before and I own gold coins that have been cleaned and those coins have NOT been cleaned They have beautiful luster and under magnification you can see almost that pixelated look of the gold Those coins never saw circulation and where most likely tucked away after they came out of the mint NGC needs to get their shit together
Comment from : carmine

Roger Kinard
All the lettuce and greens I buy from a little-known grocer are harshly cleaned
Comment from : Roger Kinard

너구리무침
l don't think NGC is good grade company
Comment from : 너구리무침

Will Lawrence
Bananas how they call the $25 dollar piece cleaned while the $3 piece straight grades
Comment from : Will Lawrence

Larry Stendebach
I always appreciate you sharing your coins with us Great stuff Having said that, I don't want to be harsh but the $20 may sneak bybut the 25 is harshly cleanedand the $5 has the look too Kinda shocked you got the $3 and Indian $10 through Had I been the grader I would have likely body-bagged the lotmaybe letting the $3 pass (though I would have graded it 55 :) ) With gold the hairlines are one thing to look for, but also how the luster plays off the coin Often recessed areas will show originality while contrasting with the exposed areas that were more directly cleaned Doug Winter has some great articles and videos with Coinweek that are worth a study - that dude is an expert on US gold In any event - keep up the great content, and good luck on your regrades, you never know, you could get lucky
Comment from : Larry Stendebach

SoundsIncStudio
Please send to pcgs I'm curious to see what they think Beautiful coins I don't see why they called them cleaned
Comment from : SoundsIncStudio

Ontario100
Thanks for doing these videos I also think you got robbed I would enjoy seeing what PCGS says about those three coins Thanks 😀👍
Comment from : Ontario100

Bullet0644
Is it possible that the graders being hired currently at these TPG services currently are just not up to par anymore? Kinda like police depts having bad cops on their force?
Comment from : Bullet0644

The Platinum Beast
Wow beautiful coins! never been a big graded coin guy but it would be cool to have some graded gold circulated coins! love that $10 indian I have yet to get me some indian Gold!
Comment from : The Platinum Beast

jrduke45
Man I'd be pissed Those coins don't look cleaned to me It's like they know it's you when you send coins in or something It's crazy some of the unboxings you do I don't get it And to think I'm currently trying to figure out who I wanna go with for grading and I was really thinking NGC since there a little cheaper than PCGS but I think im going with PCGS cause even though they may be a little more expensive, their slabs sell for more and from what I remember it seems like most of the bad call unboxings you've done were NGC Yep PCGS I believe it is
Comment from : jrduke45

Coin Collecting with Grandpa Jet
Just a curious question but do you allow any layaway or payment plans on anything you have for sale?
Comment from : Coin Collecting with Grandpa Jet

JRW3
I'd be upset tooJust as I commented on one of your vids about thisNo way are those coins cleanedWhen coins are cleaned, they lose that top layer of luster, and is gone forever, those still have luster and cartwheel effect Way to go NGC
Comment from : JRW3

Tim Herring
Hey Ben Thanks for the video I’ve been very disappointed with NGC lately on my PCGS Morgan crossovers (two crossed out of eight) Not sure what they are trying to prove but might be time to change TPG’s for me
Comment from : Tim Herring

AGuySomebody101
I can't understand how NGC could justify calling those 3 coins cleaned Definitely coins to crack out That is a beautiful $3 gold piece though
