Remember the when we could slide a negative in through the glass window and halt the wheel Result !!! Upside !! However also the days when a smack head could distract their grandmother with a custard cream, and rob the coin box, and land their owl Nan with a criminal record Also Tv’s were fitted with a coin slot, for those who were struggling financially

Can you easily override he meter if it's not working (as landlord) or do i need to get an electrician to disconnect it?

Rofl, whoops! When you said "the date on that is, 1960" i actually thought you said "1916! haha, whoops I was guessing that the coin would be around the same age as the meter because of the coin it took, but misjudged that slightly ;-) I sort of wonder why i even thought 100 years in the first place anyhow lol! All the same, very nice meter ;-)

BIG LMAO! 100+ years old :D My British Sangamo HM is older than this one, & that's nowhere near 100 yrs old :D LOL! This Smith APM was probably made in the early-to-mid 1970s :-) Decimalisation happened about '71, but because the new 10p coin was the same size as the old Florin, the mechanism -and thus the meter- continued to be in service until 1992, which was the year that the 10p coin was reduced in diameter, thus making this meter obsolete :-( 100 yrs old LOL! Hi there These meters are no longer in service with regional electricity boards They were phased-out early 90s & replaced with 'key' meters or magnetic-swipe-card meters because they contained no cash to be stolen Private landlords still use these however for revenue collection of electricity used by their tenants For the meanwhile though, please consider SUBSCRIBING, as there's going to be more interesting meters, timeswitches & Rate Changers coming up in 2013! We used two-bob meters when I was a kid, back in the sixties The last time I met a two-bob meter was in Uplime, back in February 1987 It was a 1967 meter, and there had been a considerable amount of inflation between 1967 & 1987 As a consequence of the dramatic inflation, I had to feed the meter with (old) 10p pieces I was 14 on decimalization day, and Mars bars went from 9d to 4p (6+ instant inflation)
