All this makes me realize how stable US money has been for all of my yearly-70 years While there have been design changes and silver stopped being used for coins in 1964 or so (which I remember, because the old and new coins sounded different when dropped), nothing significant has happened Attempts to replace paper money with coins has never been allowed due to widespread whining, and pennies (1c) are still made despite being nearly worthless For years I’ve paid for everything with credit cards so actual currency rarely enters my life anymore Comment from : hebneh |

Because, Tcheatcher, YES Comment from : Dale Cooper |

I would think it would come down to what the coin is made of Comment from : Donny Rockford |

The old £1 coins were horrendous for fakes I still remember as a kid trying to get my hands on some snacks from the school vending machine, and about half the kids’ coins were fakes! brbrI don’t think I’ve ever had a new £ coin rejected from a machine, a great change from the “just scratch it on the side of the machine” standard of my childhood Comment from : Tyler Beaumont |

I recently found out I had been keeping an old i1968 LARGE 10p/i coin in my room I must have found it years back and thought it was a regular 10p coin that had rusted a bitbrIt wasn't until I found it that I realised the year and the bsize/b of itbrI'm pretty chuffed about it It's now in my collection of old coins, along with my inew half pennies/i and pre-decimalised coins Comment from : la gerku |

I was aware of many but not all of these pre-D-Day coins probably because I was born in '92 Even still I had at least noticed all of the other feature designs happening throughout the 2000s My claim to fame is that I was born at a time when Scotland still put out £1 notes Comment from : ViceNorVirtue |

Malta used to be a British colony, and thus used British currency The naming of the currency in Maltese gets even wierder As far as I know a farthing couldn't be split down further, however in Maltese, a half penny used to be called "6 ħabbiet" and a farthing "3 ħabbiet" Comment from : Daniel Sultana |
|
Wow! There was a time when metal was used for money not music Comment from : Ggdivhjkjl |

I may be an odd duck, but honestly I have NEVER found old money to be odd or hard to understand 12p to a shilling, 20 shillings to a pound, 240p to a pound Never found it hard to follow (with the odd names all being coins or notes worth a certain number of pence) I even think the story of giuneas is just fantastic A big part of me wishes I had grown up with them instead of the comparatively dull 100p to a £ I do Miss the days when there were Francs, Pesetas, Deutschmarks and Lira etc compared to the souless EurobrbrPlus I genuinely think that being able to divide your currency into smaller units is a genuinely good thing for prices etc Comment from : FightingFitPT PCG |

The brass 3d was short-lived, Introduced in 1947 to replace a silver coin, which was half the size of the 6d or 'tanner' and was abolished 1971 because of decimalisation, so it was only in use for 24 years It was nicknamed the 'joey' brThe plural of penny can be pence or pennies depending on context It is pence when describing a price such as six pence, but peenies when referring to a number of coins, for instance four pennies I use the present tence because this applies to both old and new currencies Comment from : Michael Haywood |
