Aside from the 51 attack question, the other point is that neither miners nor large holders of BTC have any privilege when it comes to governance As I understand it, changes to the protocol can only occur with the agreement of nodes, and there are at least 15,000 of them scattered across the globe You can easily spin up your own for under $500

This is a big problem with bitcoin The original idea was one cpu one vote People could build a mining rig and mine from home but now it has been taken over by large players with specialized ASICS All the bitcoin maxis never address this problem and all they tell you is to buy bitcoin I love the idea of be able to earn passive income by plugging in a few miners straight from my house But now with ASICS costing thousands of dollars each and burning thousands of watts each, it's just out of reach for the average person That's why I look to other cryptos to be able to get into the mining game instead of just buying bitcoin and waiting for number to go up
