I remember that at the time, one of the things that annoyed me about the movie "Lethal Weapon" was that Murtaugh and Riggs come upon a large pallet stacked head high with packs of what is supposed to be US currency and announce "These are one-thousand dollar bills!" In 1987 when that movie came out, the largest bill in circulation in the US was the one hundred dollar bill I doubt that there were that many $1000 bills in existence even back in 1987 or that drug dealers would want to involve themselves with currency that would be so conspicuous and would draw attention to them Also, that's not how diplomatic immunity works

Currently a lot of the tracking is for marketing purposes However, think about insurance companies Hey look at this guy he buys twinkles and other junk food He is a higher risk let's raise his premium Next, if you need to track somebody, hey where did they spend money And if there is a power outage or communications outage, I guess you are SOL if you want to buy something No, there is still a valid purpose and need for physical currency
