Onzas are coins as 1) They are backed by the government 2) Article 2 of Mexico's monetary Act states that silver and gold bullion struck by the Mexican mint are legal tender and it's value will depend on the daily price of the precious metals Comment from : Mario Flores |

Onza's were minted with dates 1949, 1978, 1979, and 1980 The Libertad's were minted with dates starting with 1982 through today There is an obvious gap year, 1981 Can you explain why there was a gap and if it was intentional or unintentional? Was there anything minted in 1981 with at least 0925 purity or was it just Pesos that filled the gap, poorly, with clad coins? Comment from : Buddy Thayer II |

The Libertad pieces are very exemplary, however, the 1949 Onza is the best to own and purchase I have heard often that it is believed that Mexico did melt a lot of silver coins in the 1950's and 1960's In any event the Medallic Onzas are silver bullion coinage just like the Libertads The 1949 Medallic Onza is just a spectacle of intrigue even in the world of numismatics it seems to just parallel itself to business strike coinage as well therein When silver elevates to exceedingly bullish value - these coins will serve meritorious in possession of the holder(s) Comment from : DetroitLove4U |

Hey, Mr T I just recently watched a vid explaining why all types of Mexican Libertads don't have any Face Value on them I forgot whose YT channel made that great vid Basically, by not having a FV, all these coins should be readily available for use as real money, should Mexico go back to a silver standard and back all their currency with silver I remember Hugo Salinas Price pushing for this a couple of years back, since Mexico has one of the biggest, if not the biggest, silver reserves in the world It would be interesting what would happen if they did Comment from : Skeptic Contrarian |
