Julian as an ex magistrate i would i would find in your favour, the police had no right to get involved at the point they did, also it’s a false arrest claiming that you were making off without paying when you clearly wasn’t, you can also add assault by the police officer You need to take it to court if only to get your details removed and put in a claim for compensation
Comment from : Anthony Fernwood

Andrew Spencer

Comment from : Keith Smith

That cop is an imbecile, how on earth does he believe it to be appropriate to arrest someone for trying to pay for their goods
Comment from : Leslie Fuller

Norman Butler
I undertake a lot of charitable left wing videos and if I do them on still camera they shut down while video cameras have videos the whole of the Manchester Marathon, some SEVEN hours, something to do with a VAT tax type of charge on video cameras which isn't on still cameras and by videoing more than 10 minutes incurs an extra charge in taxation
Comment from : Norman Butler

Norman Butler
O dear the simple childish interpretation on law, even a SIMPLE police officer should be able to tell you this one, I did say SIMPLE didn't I Translated from Latin, actus reus means “guilty act;” and mens rea means “guilty mind” Now, why are those two phrases so important in the criminal law? The answer is because those two phrases describe the two basic elements the government needs to prove in order to convict a person of a crime br brWhat Is Actus Reus and Mens Rea? - you offered to pay therefore you had no mental intent and you offered to pay therefore you committed no act of not payment, you attended the next day therefore you had no intention of depriving the owner of their property, they refused the payment so you returned with a card payment showing you had no intention of refusing to pay and therefore no intention of depriving the owner of the use of their goods, In order to prove a case of theft the law HAS TO PROVE BOTH COUNTS, sod what the police think as this in quite clear and every 'O' school CHILD who studied law knows this br brSimple law maybe that is why the police have difficulty with basics This is dead funny
Comment from : Norman Butler

Joan Storer
Julian Chamberlain Why didn't you sue the police for wrongful arrest? I am certainly learning how much the police do not know from your videos & the ones by DCAudits Joan Storer

Sam Rowbotham
The police gather evidence which they forward to the CPS it is the CPS who decided whether one should be prosecuted or not unless your name is Jimmy Saville and you get a free pass to rape children brThis country needs a good revolution the Bankers control the UK Government and we the people should hang them and every MP for Treason brIf the police have stated in a letter that you set out with the intention of bilking a third party they are committing the crime of libel you need to get a good solicitor who is skilled in prosecuting the police and you will win substantial cost from them through the courts
Comment from : Sam Rowbotham

Ingy
A credit card payment is actually not legal tender as using a credit card to pay for anything isn't paying with physical cash if you research thatbrbrAnd shop owners are allowed to accept what they want to or not as payment if you research that as wellbrbrIt's all interesting and confusing as well
Comment from : Ingy

Mental Hamster
I guess barclays will never aprove you for credit card again and in the first oportunity they will downgrade your limit

I need to ask ? Julian if any type of coins that has the queens head stamped on it lol and how much the coin iswith the queens head that represents the queen message saying she's given permission to use the coins as legal tender?
Comment from : Richard Lloyd

Home Truths Homie
Not sure if this case settled yet? However, the Police appear to be covering their rear end, by sending the coins to The Royal Mint to see if they are genuine Reasons I think this, is because they know/knew they were on dodgy ground and will try and say they did not think the coins were legitimate This will help them with their claims of suspicion on the grounds of dishonesty Not once did that arresting officer mention if the coins were legitimate or not They must have realised that and thought they need to try and justify your unlawful arrest I hope you took them to the cleaners BTW, Tesco are generally one of the worst to deal with, when it comes to civil recovery etc Seem to remember them stopping people leaving their stores and asking for receipts, when their self service checkouts were not giving out receipts! They aren't the most bright nor the most trusting of their customers, sadly
Comment from : Home Truths Homie

Roger Thomas
Hi Julian I really enjoyed your podcast My wife has several £5 commerative coins purchased from Barclays and was told at the time of purchase that it was a no lose situation as they were legal tender and could be exchanged at Barclays for the face value at any time However, when she tried that Barclays refused to exchange them for currency With these continuing scams the banks and the mint should be arrested for blatant dishonesty
Comment from : Roger Thomas

Just wanted to mention that you've inspired me to test out the same here in Norway, we have a 200 NOK sterling silver coin with 1/2 oz silverbrThis is basically the equivalent of a 20£ coin with 15£ worth of silver in itbrSo far I've bought a bike with it and a pizza and sodabrbrThey don't make me rich, quite to the contrary because they generally cost me 250 NOKbrbrHowever the two people I've payed reacted very pleasantly surprised, they assumed it basically was more valuable (which is true) so they went along with itbrbrThinking of buying out my local dealer of all of them to see if i can get a good price + get enough to se some adverse reactionsbrbrRestaurantes is what i see as the more realistic target as you can't fill up at a petrol station here before you've payedbrI'll keep you posted :)

Comment from : John Bartlett

David Gordon
From the Royal Mint websitebrbr"Please note that whilst these coins are legal tender, they are not designed for general circulation, so banks and shops are unlikely to accept the coins The Royal Mint cannot accept returns of such coins outside of the 14 days return policy"brbrSo yes, while these coins are legal tender, you are just making trouble for yourself by doing this Really with all the problems going on in the UK right now, is this really the best use of your time?
Comment from : David Gordon

Keith Bickerdike
What are the police turning into ?

Mick Coulson
Julian ,slightly different but maybe interesting, My wife and I stayed at an Inn in London for our anniversary, I bought two drinks and when I tried to pay was told " we don't accept CASH" I argued that they have to but they refused, I had to finally pay with my credit card as that was the only payment they would acceptNo cash at all!!!
Comment from : Mick Coulson

C1973
It's no big deal with Tesco or banks with these coins, they send these coins with their bankings to there cash centres, the cash centres will treat these coins not fit for circulation and will send them back to the Royal mint The cash centre don't like these coins as they hold on to them for months till they have a cage full them and pay an armoured truck to take to South Wales all costed to them
Comment from : C1973

Tony Ryan
What you was arrested for can't be changed, stick to your guns matebrbrThe pigs are so bad these days, it's offensive to actual pigs to call them pigs
Comment from : Tony Ryan

Christopher Morgan
Sue the Snorters and Tesco Julian, let us know what happens?
Comment from : Christopher Morgan

Pale Male
The problem entirely lies with the Royal Mint - their website states these commemorative coins are legal tender but also states that they "are not designed for general circulation" and MAY not be accepted by banks or shops So which is it ?
Comment from : Pale Male

Richard Bosson
If you went into a petrol station and bought £100 of petrol and came with a wheelbarrow full of 1 and 2 pence coins they are within their rights to refuse to accept that
Comment from : Richard Bosson

Martyn Hunter
I can not believe that the police are so inept The fact that they are still wasting time and tax payer's money on something that should have been forgotten about at the time For Attwood to think that buying the coin for less than it's value and using it as legal tender for it's full face value, shows that the man should not be a police officer He is showing that he doesn't even have a basic grasp of common sense and I dread to think of how many other people have been treated badly due to his inability to understand something so basic His superior officer should have known that there was no offence committed and should have told Attwood not to be so daft He should have told Attwood to give Julian his coin back and apologise profusely for wasting his time brbrSo for this to still be unresolved shows that Attwood's superior officer is as useless as he is I really cannot believe what is happening Just think of all the time and money being wasted by the police Julian should definitely take legal action It's the only thing that will teach the police a lesson When they have to pay out money for their moronic behaviour they might learn something
Comment from : Martyn Hunter

Mark Edwards
Like u said that you're not going to try and use coins again if u meant at Tesco why not say that as u have done other videos going to other places so if most places say they have the right to refuse the coins as payment why keep going to other places to prove a point
Comment from : Mark Edwards

Tony Mason
You haven’t committed a crime, the police are in the wrong for suggesting you might, if they had any doubt it should have been put through to cps for a decision, this way it’s hanging over your head, iv not doubt there will be a note on police files that could cause you grief in the future, I’d demand a full apology at the least, preferably take legal advice to sue them for wrongful arrest which it obviously was !!! Looking closely at the wording around these coins, it’s absolutely clear they are legal tender, they even have a royal proclamation in accordance with the 1971 coin act, they do add that they are mainly for collection purposes but can not dismiss the fact the value on them is what it says on the coin ie £100, £50,£20,£5,£2,£1,50p and so on, if the royal mint was to suggest other all confidence would be lost, they have to honour the face value at least of the coin
Comment from : Tony Mason

Richard Michelson
I have just one question Why are you doing this? Seems like a god awful waste of time 🤷🏻‍♂️
Comment from : Richard Michelson

red viking
Ending comments summed it up Your too nice sometimes But your patience and reasoning is what will ultimately destroy them Because your right And they can't get over being wrong and will spout any jargon to still try to believe their right Your should send back a letter stating their comment on you commiting a crime is false in the eyes of the law and courts And their behaviour is against the law and decree of the courts And to stop sending slanderous harassing letters which again is against the law and they will be punished in a court of law and they should stop and reflect on themselves for working and acting outside of the law and policy for police

Martin Allsopp
Legal tender dose not mean you can pay with it as there not in circulation Legal tender of these coin is only for legal purposes so you could offer to pay a fine in court with them but shops shouldn't take them Its wrong loads of people have been stuck with these coins as you could spend them at one time but the mint changed the status an left people with money you can't spend I beleave you can send them back an get the value back
Comment from : Martin Allsopp

Paul Cowell
Very interestingkeep it up mateeven though we all no cash is almost finishedwhich we all will horribly regret I have no doubtwhy the fuck people are so stupid to give up their own control of their finances and give it to knowingly corrupt banks is so far beyond me that I think I live in a different dimension

Wouldn't take legal tender to settle a debt? So have they breached the consumer credit act? Try again with £2 coins That would be twice that you tried to pay debt Banks can get rid of coins
Comment from : Mike Hunt

MH
They can't prosecute You offered valid payment That's the end Anything after that is inconvenience, alarm, distress, etc Don't pay, you have no requirement to pay
Comment from : MH

BeardGang
In practice this means that although the silver UK coins we produce in denominations of £5, £20, £50 and £100 are approved as legal tender, they have been designed as limited edition collectables or gifts and will not be entering general circulation The amounts for legal tender are stated below
Comment from : BeardGang

Andrew Daley
If the government make it card only in the future who is responsible for buying back all those coins that are out there 🇬🇧 👍
