I had a little fast food location in one of the largest malls in the country…I averaged 500,000 plus a year and netted 35 the first 10 years, 28 the second ten years…in the third ten year lease the landlord decided they would double my rent…I passed…let the location close…a few months went by and since the location was dark they called me wanting to reconsider with a better deal…however by that time had moved out of state and that was just about the time the wage hike took place…running the numbers it showed the original business plan would not work…the money saved on rent would have gone to labor…it just wasn’t worth it, the covid thing…glad I wasn’t impulsive……

I’m not sure I agree with everything you have stated, as a MCD employee I’ve heard if you want to own your own franchise there are certain conditions you must meet, such as you need 25-30 years of experience as an employee, a recommendation from a current franchisee, and stable finances I heard it used to be you were required to be married and in a stable relationship as well, but that was dropped The fact is it’s unlikely you will go broke owning a McDonalds as they print money, but yes there is considerable investment that goes into the short term and long term success and maintenance of a store

As an owner of 3 medium size stand alone Mc’Ds restaurants, we average $300k-400k profit free and clear per restaurant after all taxes and royalties My goal was $1m per year total profits with the 3 restaurants and everything above that is gravy, or in this case, BigMac special sauce aside from dealing with occasional corporate red tape they run themselves with experienced general management

I can talk about America But I can tell you that this is simply not true in Europe or at least in my countrybrMcDonald’s is famous for being one of the easiest ways to make profit business When a new commerce center opens, people fight for opening a McDonald’s because they can actually pay all they owe within 1 or 2 years The only problem is of course, like you said the starting capital that is ridiculously high… I know 2 people that own a McDonald’s store One owns 1 store, the other owns 2 They are both filthy richbrbrAnd by the way The one that has 2 stores Asked for a loan to buy the first store The second was bought some 5 years later without any debt and of his own pocket Also I never seen a McDonald’s close or changing management for bankruptcy
