Cause Disney CEO s are greedy and don't care
Comment from : Andrew Werner

ColdLag
Haven't been to Disneyland since 2009 for how expensive it is now
Comment from : ColdLag

jawabean
This aged wonderfully
Comment from : jawabean

Glen Hallstrom
Disneyland ain't no bargain anymore either In fact, I'm assuming all the Disney properties are going this way I've never been to the other parks (grew up 20 minutes away from Anehiem) but it's gonna happen regardless which park it is
Comment from : Glen Hallstrom

KingLEONIDAS
They're literally the definition of "greedy"
Comment from : KingLEONIDAS

Harold
Disney knows that the real money is in catering to the wealthy, while still being accessible to commoners brIs a trip to Disney World costing you an arm and a leg? Screw you and pay up
Comment from : Harold

David Poole
Another reason for the increased cost is the sudden prosperity across the globe Capitalism has cut the number of people in poverty in half in the past two decades This has increased the demand for Disney parks dramatically As big as it is, Disney's space isn't unlimited Even with the increased prices, the parks are still much more crowded than they were even 10-15 years ago
Comment from : David Poole

Jarad Doyon
Because of basic economics Prices are determined based on supply and demand People are willing to pay the prices so they are able to charge them This is a GOOD thing
Comment from : Jarad Doyon

"me money!" - mr krabs

KLukays
Funny how people tried to buy them but now they buy everything
Comment from : KLukays

Uhfgood
What's funny is, they're still stagnating, the only difference is the "value added" price hikes What do I mean by this? They're not truly innovating Yeah they do the theming as well as ever They have new rides But they're resorting to carnival-like rides (roller coasters) basing whole areas off of a single ip (like star wars land aka galaxy's edge), basically so they don't have to work as hard It used to be a Disney experience when going, but now it's just a bunch of separate experiences What new technologies are they adding to the US Parks? Mickey's Runaway Railway utilizes screens to various degrees So while they're making more money each year they're ignoring the creativity of Walt The reason they stagnated in the 70's is because they did the same thing
Comment from : Uhfgood

Robert Ruiz
Greed! Happiest place on Earth? Ya right
Comment from : Robert Ruiz

Anthony Viglietta
I feel bad for the workers, but I don't feel bad that Disney is losing millions right now
Comment from : Anthony Viglietta

26Snoopy82
It’s because of Bob the new CEO he jacked the prices
Comment from : 26Snoopy82

Tegan Bigone
It is expensive because the Company puts profiteering for the share holders above making Guests happy As a share holder myself I am totally against this No one should invest in any company unless they believe in that company and want to see it succeed, not just to make money like a slot machine That is why I voted to fire Eisner and why just the other week I voted to fore Iger and the entire Board - every one of whom moonlights for other companies We need a Board that is 100 dedicated to our company and to the GUESTS And about 99 of all Disney licensing needs to be recalled and maintained exclusively by the Company and one or two outlets, as it was back in the day when only Sears & the Disney Store could sell Disney outside of the parks
Comment from : Tegan Bigone

Ryan Danforth
Hey Rob can you do a in-depth video on the history of the Disney dollars introduced in 1987? I know you did a short talk about how you have a Lion King $10, I have a Stitch $10 but a full video on their creation and how they came to be would be great
Comment from : Ryan Danforth

chelten jones
Is it just me or does the CEO look like an asshole? Nothing like the joyful face of Walt
Comment from : chelten jones

Preppygirl77@aolcom Cruz
Even for Florida residents they stink That’s why I travel instead Besides , it gets boring seeing same things after a while I spent 25 dollars on a “fried rice” that had no meat , just frozen vegetables and rice with egg This place is a rip off There are many places one can take the family for a lesser price
Comment from : Preppygirl77@aolcom Cruz

elchaconaso
only way to control crowdsand still not enoughi see having to make reservations to go in a park or you wont get in
Comment from : elchaconaso

Kyouko Toshino
Season passes to wdl used to run us about the same as a day pass now Back around 96-04
Comment from : Kyouko Toshino

icegodz2
I suppose I don’t get some points if a company is in the black and their making money how can they be taken over maybe There’s something I’m missing?
Comment from : icegodz2

Fire Fox
Disney World is definitely a money pit, even for Florida resident
Comment from : Fire Fox

LuckyStar
bad too that the only offer 1 fastpass day
Comment from : LuckyStar

lothean
Soon, one will have to take out a home equity loan to go to Disney
Comment from : lothean

Havi g
Disney is a scam less and less people are going there every year
Comment from : Havi g

Miles Campbell
Disneyworlds are the past, probably will all close in the next 10 years
Comment from : Miles Campbell

Roger Osgood
They have priced themselves out of our and our Adult Children's budget!
Comment from : Roger Osgood

Oggles 22
My family spends as much at Disney as we do at much inferior theme parks Stay off property and don't eat all your meals at Disney, that's where they get you Theme park tickets are comparably priced with other theme parks I feel I get a great value for my money at Disney
Comment from : Oggles 22

Sailor John Boy
I remember when Space Mountain was an E ticket ride Went the first time in 71 Camped at Ft Wilderness Swam in the wave pool I haven't been there in 36 years Too effen expensive
Comment from : Sailor John Boy

Coach Adam
Walt would never have jacked prices like this He wanted to cater to common families, not just the super rich
Comment from : Coach Adam

B Lloyd
When I was a kid , Florida residents could go for $25 I miss those days I get a Florida residents discount and I still can't afford it
Comment from : B Lloyd

Raymond Meyers
It should be expensive The more people who don’t think it’s worth it, the fewer people I have to stand behind in line
Comment from : Raymond Meyers

Ericks channel
Count me out I’m not paying anymore
Comment from : Ericks channel

Steve Moore
And another reason they keep putting their prices up, is because they can't stop spending money on buying other companies, such asbrbrABC brESPN (80 stake) brTouchstone Pictures brMarvel brLucasfilm sbrA&E (50 equity holding with Hearst Corporation) brThe History Channel (50 equity holding with Hearst Corporation) brLifetime (50 equity holding with Hearst Corporation) brPixar brHollywood Records brVice Media (10 stake) brCore Publishing brStar Wars brThe Muppets brThe Marvel Cinematic Universe (but not the X-Men — yet!) brDisney Princesses/Princes (such as characters from Cinderella, Mulan, Frozen, Aladdin, and The Lion King) brThe Chronicles of Narnia Franchise brThe Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise brPixar Films (such as Toy Story, The Incredibles, and Cars) brThe Winnie the Pooh Franchise brThe Indiana Jones Franchise brGrey’s Anatomy(and other popular ABC shows)brAnd now closing a deal on Fox
Comment from : Steve Moore

Mactastic
Not enough people go to Disney Parks, so they have to increase prices
Comment from : Mactastic

Derek
I loved going to Disneyworld with the family The cost of going now for a two week adults pass in 2019 (£400) is creeping towards the flight price ticket from the UK I am afraid I will not pay this I would rather spend the £1600 on a holiday where my party of four will enjoy themselves with value for money The parking charges this year of $23 a day to park is a crime and also making the customers pay for parking at the Disney hotels crazy as well The bubble will eventually burst but I will miss going to the parks Sad days for all the families who want to go but a priced out of this by stupid pricing
Comment from : Derek

UPrecious
We can't even afford to go to Disney & I've wanted to go since I was little & before I became a teenager (at least for the 1st time) &, neither my mom, grandma, or daddy have been to Disney I wish we could go & the other people who can afford it, are really lucky!
Comment from : UPrecious

antonio Branch
Disney world is the only place in the world where they charge you a ($12500+) entrance fee so you can walk around and spend more money You'll spend 30-45 minutes waiting for a 2 minute kiddie ride
Comment from : antonio Branch

Brian Stone
The real reason why Disney is still successful today despite the massive price increases in admission, hotel rooms, and merchandise is because it's worth it No other company in the entire industry has been able to keep up with Disney's quality Their parks are IMMACULATE and their rides, shows, and other entertainment options are legendary They've continued to innovate and drive the industry, and they've rarely slowed down and rarely compromised That is why they are successfulbrbrThe year that Disney execs decide to start cutting costs and drop innovation in the search for higher profits is the year that Disney Corp begins its inevitable descent into obscurity But that doesn't appear to be happening any time soon With the massive expansions of Disneyland and Disney World into the Star Wars universe, they've cemented another 10 year lease on life while reserving the option to improve or replace older rides in other parts of the parks to keep the public coming back for morebrbrWith record revenues and a massive world-wide customer base, Disney isn't going to die any time soon
Comment from : Brian Stone

Howard 1959
It's awful now If Walt came back he would fire everybody and start over
Comment from : Howard 1959

David Fuertes
We have been annual ticket holders for a long time and we also have a DVC but as of three years ago we have stayed away from the parks ,it's ridiculous how expensive it has become so we need our Disney fix we just stay at the resorts
Comment from : David Fuertes

Arizona4everGirl
I read an article YEARS ago about the cost increases that suggested all the price hikes are more of a supply and demand situation One big reason they raise prices is to keep the park from being too overcrowded all the time I have thought about this many times, if the cost was cheaper would they constantly be a max capacity Interesting thoughts maybe you could find a video in there somewhere
Comment from : Arizona4everGirl

Tony Nicholson
Between 1988 and 2010, we visited Orlando from the UK twice a year, with at least a week in Disney world every trip Now however, they have priced us out of the market by raising admission prices way above the rate of inflation every year brOn top of that they also charge $20 just to park the car, what a rip off brMuch as we loved Disney, I'm afraid that will not be able to visit anymore Pure greed on Disneys part
Comment from : Tony Nicholson

vangrails
Air travel has become cheaper and therefore there is more demand for visiting Disney parks Some people from Brazil can also visit Disney Parks
Comment from : vangrails

rusty trombone
I remember we got annual passes for like 130 So long as they keep the magic, it's not that bad though
Comment from : rusty trombone

Steven Smith
Scrooge McDuck will replace Mickey Mouse as the new head mascot of Walt Disney World
Comment from : Steven Smith

KolonaRulez
Honest answer: Because they can and people will stupidly pay
Comment from : KolonaRulez

Mychael Darklighter
It’s obvious how many people moaning in the comments have never had to run their own business You did hear the part about the frequent hostile takeover attempts, yes? You realise publicly traded corporations have a LEGAL obligation to stockholders, right? What do you want? Some commie paradise where Disney builds and maintains these insanely expensive operations out of the goodness of their hearts?
Comment from : Mychael Darklighter

MILY T
Disney is ridiculous Too expensive
Comment from : MILY T

paradonym
I somehow like how an that old youtuber is still an expert for Disney

I would like to know how many people got rid of their passes because of the costs At some point they will lose
Comment from : heather Ellis

Comment from : Kevin King

Health Wealth Relationships
Disney makes owning a annual pass affordable, so now they get a lot of attendance from locals The locals purchase food and merchandise They also let their employees enter the parks for free as well as friends That keeps attendance up and more purchases of food and merchandise They will always be able to raise prices for outsiders, because locals now frequent the parks and resorts on a daily basis
Comment from : Health Wealth Relationships

Blakehx
In a nutshell it's expensive for the same reason as Starbucks and gasoline! Gotta make a profit and people are willing to pay they may not be happy about it but as long as they aren't unhappy enough to stop paying!
Comment from : Blakehx

Jose Duarte
Put in economic terms: There is enough demand to support those prices & keep the parks profitable If the market stops supporting those prices, attendance will drop & prices will fall brbrI wonder also how much international attendance increased through the 90s and 00s My guess is the reason why the market supports those prices is because international travel greatly expands the possible market for Disney parks
Comment from : Jose Duarte

Mordec 101
Short answer: there is a lot of demand for Disney World People love it, internationally People from everywhere in the world dream of going there, so they're willing to pay high prices And so Disney profits from a high price because they know there will always be lots of people who will buy it anyway Unfortunately, this causes the price to rise
Comment from : Mordec 101

BoredAccountant
At a certain point, ticket price becomes a matter of demand control, and not necessarily revenue There will always be demand to go to DL/DW, so the limiting factor for most people will be price and availability AFAIK, except for some APs, Disney doesn't limit the sale of any tickets, despite overselling entry being a huge factor in diminished park experience, which could push people away from the properties
Comment from : BoredAccountant

ottav
People are still willing to pay the ticket prices sure But almost everyone I know who can still even afford Disney World never stay at their hotels Even the cheap ones aren't that great a deal, forget about the Contemporary, that's one of the most expensive ones there and usually booked solid for business people Any time a convention comes to Disney they book the Contemporary It was extremely difficult in the 90s and early 2000s to get a room there, not sure how easy it is now as I haven't visited since 2005
Comment from : ottav

matt k
As long as people are willing and able to pay the prices, Disney will charge those prices brE Cardon Walker, one of the predecessors to Eisner (who was horrible in his own way), was such a bad CEO that he didn't even keep prices in pace with inflation back in the late 1970's and early 1980's
Comment from : matt k

Humberto Celli
These days they just care about the money, they don't even respect Walt dream's Many poor kids all around the world will never be able to visit the parks with those high prices
Comment from : Humberto Celli

Chris
Is not that bad! I spend more money on hookers
Comment from : Chris

Benn Doverr
Last time we went was 1995 We quit going because of the price hikes Great strategy Eisner 👎👎
Comment from : Benn Doverr

Undecided
Universal is like half the price, but id still rather go disney, the difference in disneyland from other parks is worth more than triple or even quadruple what other parks charge And its worth every penny
Comment from : Undecided

Darvin Ray
there will be a day when it will go pass people's break even point and people will eventually say that it is no longer worth the price brit happened during the 2008ish recession disney's attendance were so low they were forced give out large amounts of discounted tickets just to keep attendances up
Comment from : Darvin Ray

M Lucas
The high prices, the over crowded mess and some of my favorite YouTubers repeatedly going there over and over is why I stopped going I cringe when I see Adam the Woo, Tim Tracker or Justin Scarred doing yet another Disney video TBH the obsession of what's supposed to be a children's thing is kind of creepy
Comment from : M Lucas

Big Dave
They just shelled out a pile of cash for Marvel and LucasArts, and they have to generate income to pay for those I don't care who owns Marvel and LucasArts, just that they keep making movies, so I object to paying Disney prices Fortunately the rest of the Orlando area is cheap - food, rooms, etc -so its still good value to go there, just don't go to the parks
Comment from : Big Dave

JMH74
Magic Kingdom $129; Other theme parks $125 each
Comment from : JMH74

antwan1357
I just will never go their are so many places that still operate the old way Walt Disney used to so it won't matter
Comment from : antwan1357

Bruno TaTa
The advent of easy credit is a big factor Before the 1980's, people didn't really get credit cards unless they were wealthy or business people Borrowing to travel was unheard of Today people routinely put trips on cards and pay it off later (or don't) brThey charged what the market would bear They damaged the brand in the process with some of their practices, but people don't seem to care
Comment from : Bruno TaTa

spirittammyk
It's gone so high, my family can't afford it anymore Can't afford Universal either
Comment from : spirittammyk

Mooseknuckle
Corporate greed ?
Comment from : Mooseknuckle

LackHapeLuis
i would pay £100 for a ticket tbh
Comment from : LackHapeLuis

Sylvia Jean Adams
Not what Walt wanted He wanted it to be affordable for all He wanted everyone to enjoy it
Comment from : Sylvia Jean Adams

Peter
Well quite frankly, after Black Panther, Avengers, Solo, Incredibles 2, Antman and the wasp the amount of revenue that’s been pulled in this year on movies alone why can’t there be a slight compensation in the parks?
Comment from : Peter

subseven
I certainly can't afford it now When I was a teenager my mom couldn't afford it but got me and my siblings a year pass anyways Now that I'm an adult and so are most of my siblings, none of us can afford it so we never go I'm referring to Disneyland not world I've never been to Disney world, and probably never will I live in California so Disneyland didn't require an expensive trip on top of the admissionbrbrI certainly wish prices would drop because I haven't been to Disneyland in years and I really enjoyed it and would like to go againbrbrI expect there are too many people who can and will continue to be able to afford it so it leaves people like us out It's just the way things go
Comment from : subseven

Jim Jeffcoat
Short answer: because they can
Comment from : Jim Jeffcoat

Space Case
You know, I always thought it had to do with the other expenses Disney has to pay alongside the expansion and maintenance of its parks, such as research and development for other projects But the logic here still makes sense I can imagine that if Disney wasn’t so threatened by hostile takeovers, they would probably lower the cost of admission
Comment from : Space Case

Alex Mundo

Comment from : Alex Mundo

octoberboiy
Disney is truly for kids I went to Magic Kingdom with my ex-girlfriend this year and I was barely thrilled Too much walking and long lines
Comment from : octoberboiy

The Faceless Gamer
I haven't been there for years because of how expensive it is Disney won't drop prices since tons of people still go there and the amount of people who goes there has not dropped They are a big company with no competition No competition means that they can do whatever they want I'll be able to go eventually but not soon enough
Comment from : The Faceless Gamer

asdfghjkl
Because Disney has the big name and people keep paying their high prices If people stopped paying up they would reduce their prices
Comment from : asdfghjkl

Felix Culpa
I remember when it was like $35/day in the 80's but we got in for free cause my Granny RETIRED after 25 years in the same gift shop
Comment from : Felix Culpa

Television Archives
Actually compared to other things like football games baseball games and other entertainment venues Disney is a bargin It's an all-day entertainment package and considering what you do inside it's incredible value
Comment from : Television Archives

Secret person D
funny how Disney just beat Comcast in a bid for fox for 70b
Comment from : Secret person D

Trakker1985
May have been needed in the past, but they don't need to raise prices any more I mean, they own like, half of the movie industry now, who could possibly be a threat to buy them out? But i guess they won't stop doing it until they start seeing drops in attendance, that's probably the only thing that will put the breaks on the price hikes
Comment from : Trakker1985

Janaes Adventures
they need to bring every movie in the vault to blu-ray and dvd lower the prices so the attendence will rise
Comment from : Janaes Adventures

SangoProductions213
Because the market is willing to bare it Simple as that Every company has a duty to their investors to make them more money than they invested As in it's a legally enforceable duty As in a company can be sued for not exploiting a market as much as they can brOf courseIt's also a matter of "Well, we can make more money Why don't we?"brSo, again, the market is willing to bare it And so long as it is willing to, prices will increase until it's less profitable than a lower price would bebr(After watching the video OK Yes Markets and what not Also the threat of being eaten up by a bigger fish)
Comment from : SangoProductions213

Gods2ndFavoriteBassPlyr
It's interesting that Disney keeps raising prices in light of the fact that they've worked like rabid dogs to reduce labor cost for example in 2015 Disney not only Fired long time IT workers so that they could hire H1B visa invaders to work cheaper Those Disney employees were made to 'dig their own graves' so to speak, by having to Train their replacements as conditions for receiving their severance packagesbrApparently Disney is not bpassing the savings on to you/b
Comment from : Gods2ndFavoriteBassPlyr

Jay Khan
its like social status, the middle class is disapearing America, you made it so expesive it hard for a average income family to live conftable, where both parents have to work long ours to keep time away from kids Midle class disapears, the country loses Majority live paycheck to paycheck and mountains of debts This countries inflation is out of control
Comment from : Jay Khan

HotWax93
While it's true that some would regard films like Robin Hood, The Rescuers, and The Fox and the Hound as classics, the fact is that they have never been highly regarded my most critics, and thus have been cast onto the dustbin of Disney's history It's a shame, because some of those are quite good filmsbrbrWhile we're on the subject, allow me to add that the abandoning of the "what would Walt do" mentality is a big reason why Disney as a studio is rotten today That mindset is what gave us the films of the Renaissance era, but after the massive success of The Lion King they got greedy and fell flat trying to replicate something that is extremely difficult, if not impossible to achieve more than once in a generation By succumbing to that greed, they lost sight of Walt's vision, and with it, lost their way as a brand
Comment from : HotWax93

Niblik92
