Spanish is my second language, although I'm not fluent in it I'm probably B1-B2 conversational In saying that, I'd like to say that some words in traditional Spain Spanish don't transfer well to other Spanish speaking countries and vice versa 95 of it is universal, but there exist differences For instance, my family is from Mexico and we never uses the words boligrafos and vosotros as he did We say pluma and ustedes for both formal and informal, and those are just a few examples of the differences Also, I've ran into people from central and south American countries that use different words For example, everyone I know calls a car trunk a cajuela Well, once I met a guy from Venezuela refer to it as a maleta, which to me means a suitcase Also the words for foods can vary In Spain they call a potato a portato, but I know it as a pappa Also, in Argentina I think they call a pineapple annas, something like that And don't even get me started with the differences in slang Basically, what I'm trying to say is that if you're an American trying to learn Spanish to communicate with Mexicans, which I'm sure most here are, know that you're probably going to have to relearn a few words It's still a good language to learn though, and it honestly isn't that difficult It's not like Russian, which I've been learning for a while Now that is a language that will drive you insane Comment from : MysticWolf1223 |
