Extremely promising approach to dramatically improve education efficiency They really boosted GPT-4 performance with the right approaches, eg internal reasoning process, as expected from the first GPT-4 evaluationsbrUnfortunatelly, it is still largely ignored what this might lead to when these models and the usage are further improved Someone will let an advanced model "run free" (using all kinds of online resources) to solve a problem And the model will try to solve this problem, causing extremely undesirable side-effects to fulfill its mission brI am afraid the temption of the wonderful benefits is too strong to stop this from happening Comment from : Lcch3 |

Khan Academy continues to do an amazing job! Do keep us posted on when this is going to be available in India Comment from : Padma Venkataraman |

Wonderful! But the point of education is not to just keep learning for rest of our lives Students eventually grow up, have to find jobs, support families, pay rents, utilities, healthcare etc But how many employees top 10 tech companies would really need eventually? Will the minimum wage salaries be enough for rest of the population? How many can be lucky to get donations from Gates foundation? How many will be motivated in creating startups focused on going beyond Mars? How many students will be motivated to learn any complex subject knowing fully well they can't afford a middle class living standard even if they grind for rest of their lives Things are already too bad for bottom 50-60 of population We as a society really need to think where we are headed Comment from : DilSeDesi |
This doesn't really address most AI in education, this is just a big advertisement for Khan Academy Don't get me wrong it's great but there's not much about AI outside of Khan Academy's new ai bot Comment from : John Ghazzagh |
to be clear though, students have 100 been using chat GPT to cheat in their exams xD Comment from : AEOW |
Quite a bit insightful on real world implementation of AI in actual learning systems to bring about an overall positive sum change in the lives of millions across the world Thank you TED / Sal Khan and all those involved in thinking through, designing and implementing Khanmigo and bring this out as well as this video out to naive population like myself Comment from : Deep Sukhwani |
When i got to play with chat gpt back in February it was on version 3 and it was absolutely blowing my freaking mind I literally sat up asking it questions for hours and hours for a month i would sit up just obsessing over it and how amazing it isThis is what khan academy is capable of with version 3, version 4 has come out and it's literally 4x more intelligent in what it's capable of generating I'm excited to experience this for myself and i'm kind of glad i put off going to college until now because it's going to change the course and outcome of my life by making me a better student giving me the opportunities i could have only ever dreamed be possible Comment from : Pat Collins |

BTW, I think what you are doing is in the right direction Imagine what this will be like in 10 years! Comment from : ITInsuranceGuy |
Not everyone is academic How can we get AI to identify non-academic high potentials so education is tailored for students whose needs lie there? Perhaps the AIs can be hooked into cameras with knowledge of kinematics and help identify gymnasts or assist with woodworking skills Hook AIs up to microphones to find singing ability or improve debating or acting ability Children are our greatest resource Let's find a way to uncover all of the talents they possess It must invariably lead to greater fulfilment Comment from : ITInsuranceGuy |
Very well put Sal!!! I have worked with AI research before but stopped But now you have convinced me to take it up Not just for myself, but for all life on the planet!! Kudos for all your contributions Comment from : Proxy 1 |
What this man has done for education is absolutely incredible! Sal deserves a Nobel Prize in Education Comment from : Erica Hill |
But will it stop the USA from taking us to a nuclear war with China? End the proxy war in Ukraine, will the wealthy who hoard their money in stocks and bonds and pay next to no taxes, will it redirects wealth from the top to the bottom and reestablish free education, free medicine, a UBI, homes for all, mass high speed public transportation, and finally will it bring democracy into the workplace ending the 200 year reign of the employers? Comment from : Ivan Olea |
I see what Sal is trying to do and, at first glance, it does appear to be an efficient method of teaching, but aren't we missing the actual societal changes here? For example, when you break down the Great Gatsby to an AI interpretation and presentation, you (without knowing it) begin the process of eroding the human artist behind the work You begin (perhaps unconsciously) to project intelligence/agency/omnipotency into a machine In short, you eliminate the presence of the author/artist whose experience and talents (etc) created the work to begin with! Hence, do you really understand the consequences of incorporating AI into education? I don't think Sal does or many others who endorse this unchecked AI into our society Comment from : Gordon Pepper |
Too rosy tinted glasses? Not all students may be amenable to improved learning methods AI can increase the divide between good and bad learners ? Comment from : Moonvoice Voicemoon |
This costs money What about students/schools that cannot afford the ai plug in This seems to be more of an infomercial Comment from : Sandra Miller |
Yes, AI is going to make revolution in education: after some time we will not need adulation anymore because why we have to teach stupid biological brain if we can teach AI instead And next question - why we need biological brains existed in general Comment from : SomeManChanel |

How to know if your students are using chatgpt to cheat on papers and projects? Chat gpt can't hand write papers Comment from : Matt C |
Thank you for all your examples, Sal! While chat gpt can be used as a tutor, many university students are using it to complete their homework assignments without making an effort to learn It can solve many math problems, and even explain its steps It can also write essays and answer pretty much any assignment question How do we combat this in higher ed? Anthrop/c summarizes the transcript as follows: Here's a summary of the YouTube transcript:
br
bro The speaker argues that AI can be used to enhance education rather than undermine it if the proper safeguards and regulations are put in place
bro AI tutors and teaching assistants can give every student a personalized tutor and every teacher an AI assistant This could help address the "two sigma problem" of improving student outcomes
bro The speaker shows examples of an AI called Khanmigo helping students learn math, coding, literature, and writing It provides tailored feedback and encouragement
bro Khanmigo can also be used by teachers to help create lesson plans, grade assignments, and prepare to teach new topics This could save teachers a lot of time currently spent on administrative tasks
bro While some are optimistic or pessimistic about AI, the speaker argues we should take an active role in ensuring it's developed and applied responsibly If we pause progress out of fear, others may accelerate their AI for negative uses But we must also fight for positive use cases like using AI to enhance human intelligence and potential Comment from : John HG Weisenfeld |
Or just learn what we want to learn, for free from Chatgpt, Youtube What is the value proposition of schools? Biased professors, time wasters, irrelevant topics to study, put one in debt paying the overpriced tuition fees Comment from : Artificial Intelligence |

Love Sal and what he's done with Khan Academy! Back when I was in high school, I would often refer to Khan Academy for conceptual understanding It is one of the first ed-tech startups I knew, which has been committed to the vision of enhancing school education I have donated to Khan Academy for a while but haven't yet done so recently, but I don't think I'll be able to sustain it given that I'm not earning However, I'm super excited about what Khanmigo is bringing to the table and about the state of generative AI Comment from : Aadit Kamat |
One-sided and only promotional The paper that Sal mentioned is credible but dates back to 1984 So why not mention the downsides and flaws of generative AI? What about inaccuracies, human agency, privacy, and bias?!brbrI found this video not critical enough for a CEO that promotes critical thinking in education! brbrChildren are a sensitive group that should be kept safe, and an AI that can share feelings and secrets needs to have specific boundaries and limitations Comment from : Max Eslamian |
Sal has truly inspired me to become a meaningful teacher Comment from : AshKnot |
As a leading expert in “education in the age of AI,” I am the most advanced teacher in JapanbrIn the future, teachers will not be “teachers” but “learners”brIn other words, school teachers are facilitators, not teachersbrI am the only high school teacher in Japan with such an educationbrI also do national presentations, university lectures, and teach faculty on my YouTube channelbrI am also a former semiconductor engineer who has successfully developed a national project and obtained a technology patent Comment from : iCT教師 |
The first question I would ask: what does being "objective" really mean?brSay- if we were to ask the AI to grade a whole student body, a school for example- on a piece of creative writing- how would the grades received by the students from the AI, correlate with the grades between different teachers What would that tell us about the AI and the teachers? brHow would we make an optimal "marking" machine, while improving ourselves by using it?brHow do we even begin to decide what a "statistical anomaly is", when the question is no longer- concensus, but optimization brbrThe obvious answer is trial and error, but the thing you are playing with here- education, is not unimportant In fact, if the "error" part goes really wrong, that's a recipe for apocalypse Terrible education and unsustainable beliefs are the most likely thing that might end our existence That's my opinion though I just don't want to see us fail Comment from : Alex D |
❤ from Gambia Comment from : Muhammed Sillah |
This person gets it If more people like him were in charge, our world would be a better place Comment from : S Mathew |

The issue with this is that as all these technologies roll out just like with globalisation, we leave many countries out of the equation, including mine Nigeria A lot of nations barely have access to constant electricity, water etc, not to talk of even easy and constant access to the internet How many developing nations have schools, even Universities, with constant internet talk less of access to Khanmigo? brbrKudos to you, developed countries can utilise this and keep being developed while developing countries try to sort themselves out brbrWithin those developing countries, it is mostly the upper middle class and upper class that would be able to access and utilise such technologies at the start and for a good period of time, leaving behind the majority of the masses brbrI do not want a world where only the privileged have access to good quality education I know you are doing your best @Sal Khan @khanmigo, but please look into how you can bridge this educational and digital gap in developing countries Don't leave the rest of the developing world behind Comment from : OriekaOSE |
Sal Khan's perspective on the transformative power of artificial intelligence in education is indeed thought-provoking The idea of personalized AI tutors for students and AI teaching assistants for teachers opens up exciting possibilities for enhanced learning experiences What role should teachers play in this AI-powered education landscape? How do we strike a balance between human interaction and AI support? Comment from : Pathmonk |
This fellow is dinosaur, same business model, out done out performed Thank you for your service and go AWAY Comment from : Chat GPT |
The US is a terrorist state - what good acrors is he talking about? Comment from : lennoxRU |
am on the fence with all type of robots and ai but can you answer what would happen if there no jobs because there robots and ai that do it for u Comment from : king DeathKnight |
That was a great presentation Comment from : Jay Ong |
Yeah sure But this fails to address the “problem” with AI and education, which is third party AI Why would a student consult a limited AI tutor and not a third party AI that gives them the answer/writes the essay? Comment from : Nicholas Wynn |
Ai would destroy Human knowledge and the ability to Think yourself Comment from : Søren Petersen |
Yeah Comment from : Charvak |

Plz develop a coaching model on healthy lifestyle ( am sure you can find people/comp to collaborate with to build this)chronic diseases which kill more people than infectious ones, has in common, the huge risks/cause of poor lifestyle habits Comment from : Ravi |
Khan Academy was appallingly error riddled and he left errors available to study from (!!!) You had to have ESP to know corrections were available if you had more study time to unlearn the errors in excessively chatty videos brbr KA is offensive to learning Comment from : C Ch |
they have been testing AI autism robotics in segragated classroomsbrthe children prefer bots versus abusive teachers who requre they pop adhd pills Comment from : Masonic Jewel |
LEGEND Comment from : WeAreFamily |
impressive - every tool is in how you use it - I like that they harnessed what ai can do and made it useful to education (not every person/place will do that, but it's good to see positive examples) Comment from : Fatima Hye |
AI makes work easy but that also became students less creative and imaginative to their work brWhat your opinion about it Comment from : Nikhil Warkad |
Once we can get a voice interface and an AI assistant that can share a smartboard with a student I'm starting to think I'll be out of a job I'm working hard so that I can be part of the problem Comment from : damnwall |
Thank you for everything you do Sal! We appreciate you I love the alternative narrative framing you offer here and I think it can be used for other areas beyond education as well -- eg AI hopefully won't replace human musicians who make music; it will help give more humans access to learn and create more and better music : ) Comment from : Henry Chatfield |
