I'm 61 years old and have been working for a large grocery chain for the last 38 years and paying ss during this entire time After going to work in pain for over a year because i rarely call in sick i finally went to a pain management doctor because it felt like i had torn my glute and hamstring He sent me to get an MRI and told me i have stenosis and a bone spur putting pressure on a nerve causing the pain He has been treating me with cortisone injections and I've been going to physical therapyIm a little better but still cant stand or walk for more than 15,20 minutesIve also developed drop foot during this time Surgery is not an option as i live alone, have no one to help me during recoveryMy short term disability FMLA is about to run out and even though I pay for long term disability out of my paycheck there is a chance I might be denied from UNUMIf my employer terminates me I will not only lose my job but my health insurance as wellShould I hire a lawyer to try and help me get SSI or SSD in case UNUM denies me and I get terminated ??I have been working for many years and love my job but standing and walking is unbearable and I'm pretty much homebound using a Walker to get around in my own house

Ssi is for people with disabilities and can’t work so why do people think it’s just for people who don’t want to work? Truth is you can quit your job today and sign up for ssi and you won’t get it, there are people with real disabilities that don’t even get approved and if you do get approved you have to wait at least 2 years until you receive any money so please stop falling for the hype!! No one will go without a job and without money for 2 years just to end up getting $700 a month for the rest of their life because that money will all be spent the first week you get it!!!

Dec 2018, I just got my real estate broker license and just opened my firm I have only 29 credit for SS so not enough for SSD I got a stroke Dec 2018 and became disabled SSI gave me 300 per month for a few month but said my husband was making "too much" He make on W2 24000 but our Tax return shows 17,700 because of the loss of our real estate business They refuse to consider the loss of our real estate in the calculation, there is a lot incolved in keeping our real estate active, but I am sure they would have added if it was a "+" My husband can not work real estate as he has to take care of me as soon as he gets home from his employed job Now Jan 2020 they competely cut me off because my husband have apply to receive his SS checks (we need it, we can not survive on 17,700 per year!) now with the 1500 per month SSA and his 17,700 a year, they figure we are like "millionnaire" or something, they cut my SSI to 0 and by doing that, I have lost my Medicaid I am in a wheelchair, left side paralized Something I can do? I am in Fort Lauderdale Florida

OK i'm freaked out by all the comments I found online by people struggling to make ends meet on disability! Been dealing with what I was told were degenerative back issues for the last 4 yrs only to get blindsided by a new diagnosis of MS in 2020! It's taken 4 yrs for my Doctor to get to this complete diagnosis, and i'm still paying off $30,000 in medical debt for diagnostics, tests & medical treatment only to find out I also have MS with all it's related issues! Tried to switch careers only to realize I have cognitive issues and could not progress through the training process due to an inability to comprehend & retain new information! After talking with the SS office in my area I was told that I would only qualify for $920 per month of SSDI because I only worked part time for 4 out of the last 10 yrs! As much as I struggle physically in my current career, (I have a small cleaning business), I fear the alternative more than the suffering I go through on a daily basis while doing my job to the best of my abilities! Thankful to God for my understanding clients and a good husband that's able bodied and is willing to make up the loss of my income from my having to go part time in order to maintain some semblance of functionality - albeit shaky at best! Still don't understand how it takes so many years to get a proper diagnosis with the technology available in the USA in the 2000's? Had I been diagnosed with MS several yrs ago my body would not have been left to degrade to this point! Being left untreated for years is a huge problem for people with MS! Proper treatment makes the difference between being left reasonably functional or being caught in a downward spiral of rapid disability! brbr50 yrs old and having to figure out how to reinvent myself and my career in order to keep working in some fashion or risk loosing everything! Disability is not a viable alternative when you're already struggling to pay off crushing debt! brGod willing i'll make it through somehow or die trying!brbrbrGod bless you all and best wishes for the future

I started receiving SSA in 2016, due to 2 accidents that caused an inoperable brain aneurysm, broken nose, nerve damage to my R side, head to toe and a top total humerus and shoulder break, that caused them to cut 2 sections of bone out so they could try posting and bracketing it together They did not connect any muscle or ligaments or nerves back up as they did not think it was going to grow back together I have also been fighting severe anxiety and depression prior to and got worse after accidents, causing PTSD My nerve issues, balance and eye sight,(due to aneurysm), and memory has gotten worse also 2 years ago SS sent me a letter saying I was deemed disabled and would be put on Medicare, I am now 58 years old I have worked several jobs and filed my own taxes since I was 19 years old The last job I was at for 11 years, prior to that I had 2 jobs at the same time, one for 10 years and one for 5 years, so I had steady income coming in for years I also tried working after 2 years of breaking my arm, as it finally grew together after 1n 1/2 years My bosses were very good to me and when I started getting major migraines and my shoulder joint got over worked, they moved me around to 3 different positions The last one I loved, as it was inventory counts and sinking it into their database But after 4 months, I had to quit, as my migraines and shoulder got worse I ended up in surgery for my shoulder, but they can not do anything about my migraines If I get them I just gotta be more still and in dim lights or darkness My arm needs surgery again, but I just don’t want anymore surgery, I’ve had too many surgeries throughout life My point is, my checks are only 380 a month and they are still coming from SSA I questioned the attorney about it and our local SS, they both said because I divorced and got remarried, about 5 years later, that none of my work and paying into SS and Medicare counted, except for the years I’ve worked since remarried And it didn’t matter if I was considered disabled, my checks are still going to come from SSA I really don’t understand how it can work that way??

I just recently won my social security income case about a week ago well about two months ago but I just found out about a week ago I live with my aunt which when I first started my case it was 2 years ago 2017 is when I moved in with my aunt but I started it sometime in 2016 now that I have won my case and turned in all of the paperwork on the household and things like that being that I was staying with family I had an agreement of $450 that I will pay her for staying with her and for helping me out me and my wife they have giving me $514 monthly I believe I know I am owed back pay but $514 is not enough money after I pay my aunt 450 or 350 for rent what do I need to do to try to get an increase to 7:30 at least I stay in New York City
