My 2022 west point silver eagle I purchased from money metal exchange passed all the test you showed us the weight is 3125 of mine and in water it was 296 the end result was 10556 does this sound like it is real It's a little higher than your eagle that the weight the same I'm kinda new to buying coins so I appreciate the information it's going to help me alot I'm just checking if I should continue buying from this company They seem legit to me but like I said I'm new to this and don't know which companies are legit Now I've been collecting rolls from banks and pocket change for years but haven't bought very many coin from companys except Littleton but they are too expensive but you don't have to worry if you're getting fakes Money metals exchange ships and gets you're coins to me faster and cheaper Any information would be appreciated thanks Comment from : Charles Randall |

I just got an American Silver Eagle (ASE) that I purchased on eBay this week I weighed the item It weighed less than a troy ounce (098) The detail is what caught my eye right away, there was too much detail I put the coin on the Sigma Metalytics analyzer and it did not even register on the silver scale The coin passed the magnet test The "coupe de grace" the coin ping was just flat I sent the eBayer a picture of the coin on the analyzer The coin was packed in one of those plastic holders This was another part of the trickery Folks always say "buy the coin and not the package" The refund was immediate As for the return, the eBayer has disappeared This was advertised as a BU coin BEWARE of the trickery, you will see ASEs on eBay advertised as Collectibles Comment from : Peg Boyd |
Since your magnet is cylindrical, you can still use it for a magnet slide test You'll need to remove the price tag, though Take the coin to be tested and prop the edge up on another coin Put the magnet on it's side at the top end of the ramp created by the test coin and let it roll down across the face of the coin If It's silver, the magnet will not roll as quickly as expected just like using a coin slide Sometimes, the magnet will drag enough it won't have enough inertia to climb up the edge of the rim to drop off the coin Comment from : Back Pack Hack |
Thanks man you just saved my but, love you for these video's Comment from : Brian Bundy |
Like that 1992 ASE you pinged lastly in this video, it seems that those older ASE's from the early 90's have a lousy 'ping' to them I have five 1993 ASE's, and when I ping them, it just sounds like a duller 'thud', which would freak out most silver stackers, but if you listen real closely, you can still hear that signature, tell-tale 3800 Hz tone under the thud It doesn't resonate or ring for very long, but there is a 3800 Hz ping buried in there Comment from : Mello Gee |

Thanks for another video! Two nerdy comments First of all, at 11:05 you say "silver should weigh 311 grams" actually gold or copper or dirt should also weigh 311035 grams, because that's how many grams are in a Troy ounce brbrSecond, technically, you should be using distilled water I say technically, because (depending on temperature) the difference in density between pure (distilled) water and tap water doesn't occur until the 3rd or 4th decimal place But that brings up another point, that this should be done in a relatively cool (cold) environment The density of water is only 10000 (which you are relying on for this test) at 4° C (39° F) At room temperature (say 20° C or 68° F) the density of water is 09982, and on a hot day (40° C or 104° F) the density of water is 09922 Anyways, just saying that if you are using tap water at room temperature, that 3rd sig fig ain't going to matter, so anything in the ballpark of 105 would be cool Comment from : Jay Windley |

I wasn’t sure about some cons I bought online as I was skeptical about the great price Well I wish I followed my instincts at the time of purchase Thanks to you showing us the flip identifier I was able to prove I bought fakes Unfortunately several so it was an expensive lesson learn Stick with the well known bullion dealers I have since found several other sites selling the same garbage The coins weighed in at 9999 ounces and looked perfect but failed the flip test and magnet test The magnet just rolls right down it Thanks for your amazing videos you’re helping people Would love to buy some silver dragons but those are pretty expensive and rare maybe one day once I’ve recovered my losses… Comment from : Nick Lo |
Thanks I just made my first mistake and bought some fake ones I lost about 220 bucks Lesson learned Only buy from reputable dealers Comment from : glenn sacona |

Has anyone bought any rare earth magnets? Where did you buy them? Comment from : Beachlady |

Thank you for this video Huge help and very informative But wondering, if we can weigh the coin and test it with a rare earth magnet, is that all that would be needed to test the legitimacy of the silver? Comment from : Beachlady |

Another change between 2008 and later is the diagonal line from the sun, in the lower left corner, where it goes through the "L" on the word "Liberty" The later issues, 2008 and later, that line goes closer to the rim of the coin Just compare a 2007 and a 2008 coin and you will see what I'm trying to explain Comment from : Ab Normal |
Very interesting, Thanks! Comment from : Jack Jones |

Most of the tests goes for gold too! Instead of sliding the coin down a magnet you can let a magnet slide down the coin instead Alloyed gold coins you can't make a magnet test on other than it's non magnetic If you hang the magnet from a long string you can easily see if magnet is the slightest attracted to the coin Do however remember that eddy currents will make the magnet move - but not attracted when stationary For 24K coins you can actually do a slide test too Magnet will however slide faster than on silver but still significantly slower than pure brass etc Also tungsten is actually very slightly magnetic so a hanging magnet will test for that too So all in all it's not that hard to verify coins as long as you're careful and pays attention so you do proper tests and know what to look for Comment from : HifiCentret |
In some old movies they show another test: bite the coin with your teeth :) brFor the Gold, as it's soft, the tooth will leave a mark on the coin Don't know for silver Comment from : Konstantin Pankratov |

You need to stop biting your nails! Comment from : TheHoneyBadger |

To paraphrase and add to your video:brbr1) Visual test Look at the overall design elements, font, orientation, etc The key is to know the coin, and have a reference coin or high-quality picture to compare against A good eye and a jeweler's loupe helps, too Using calipers to measure the dimensions of a coin is another basic testbrbr2) Audio test Ping (strike) the coin to listen to ring of the metal You must know the sound or have a reference, plus decent hearing Audio equipment can check these frequencies Not always appropriate to do, as it may damage and depreciate a coin, just like a touchstone with acid test in which a coin is scraped across a rough surface (dark slate) and the scraped metal bits are dissolved in acids of specific strengthsbrbr3) Magnet tests The rate of slide down a slope with magnets beneath the surface must match a real coin For a cheaper and simpler test, use a rare-earth magnet; it will not be attracted to a silver coinbrbr4) Weight test Use a scale that can measure the coin in grams, down to a tenth or better The typical weight of a coin type is given in most coin guides A troy ounce (ozt) is exactly 311034768 grams (g); that's about 321507465 ozt per kg The same weight, 1 ozt, is 480 grains (gr); an avoirdupois pound (lb) is 16 avoirdupois ounces (oz), or 7000 gr, making it 14583 ozt Precious metals (silver, gold, platinum, palladium) are often weighed in ozt Other metals (copper) are weighed in lb Bulk metals (zinc) are weighed in metric tons (MT, tonne, 1000 kg, 1 Mg)brbr5) Specific gravity test The test requires the weight of the coin divided by the weight of the coin suspended in water The expected values for various alloys must be looked up This "wet" test isn't recommended for coins that may depreciate in value when handled in this mannerbrbr6) Other noninvasive tests There are very accurate tests, but usually require expensive equipment, which uses x-rays, RF, magnetic fields, etc One easy-to-use device is the precious metal verifier (PMV Pro), which can test a coin, even if a coin is in a coin holder Comment from : Oahu Hawaii |

Also this Britannia has a left/right flip symmetry instead of the Eagle up/down? Comment from : SilverFishing |
