i heard this Money market fund tracks SONIA rate which is itself determinated by the BoE rate (3 as of Nov 5th) brDoes it mean that the return of the fund will now be close to 3? brif so, it will even return more than Equity funds like eg SP500 which is failing at the moment

Great video as ever I found an old article on Portfolio Charts on understanding the role of cash (MMF) in a portfolio portfoliochartscom/2017/05/12/understanding-cash-will-make-you-a-better-and-happier-investor/ I think it nicely complements the information in the video Personally I do hold a cash (or short term debt) component in my portfolio, which I would say is for: 1 If LIBOR goes up (a la 2008) this should be reflected in the MMF, 2 It's not likely to go down 40 as the stock component might, 3 Should there be a sale on stocks this is a good place to have your 'dry power'

I also think that these funds are quite pointless, at least for 99 of people You can find cash ISAs or even savings accounts with more return than that and also with fscs protection So you get more return and it’s also safer to invest in a savings account(if you don’t want to use your ISA allowance)

Another good video Ramin All you are looking to achieve with a money market fund is the offset of most of your platform charges in the short term This is what makes it slightly better than leaving it as cash in your investing account It's a cash park This is where you store 'dry powder', it isn't an investment Not vanguard's fault if investors don't get that
