Great video That sounds like a fun classroom experiment to teach kids why we have ears Comment from : Paularized |

I’m actually kind of amazed, truth be told - I was wondering how our minds were able to detect vertical sound! Thank you for explaining it in a concise mannerbrbrThe online multiplayer RPG, Final Fantasy 13 (often abbreviated to FFXIV) has an optional add-on feature that can be used that enables significantly better 3D audio with headphones (rather than the standard mono/stereo sound)brbrTo actually enable and setup the add-on, it has you take a photo of your left and right ears and upload them to their servers for a brief period of processing I thought it was kind of strange, but to my surprise it worked alright! I can much more clearly tell where some sound is coming from speciallybrbrI was always wondering how that technology worked, so thanks for giving a much better picture of the basic science behind it! Hi Dr CliffbrbrHow can you identify the direction and exact source of sound using technology? Is there a way to do it(some sort of technique or device)?brbrThanks Comment from : General VJ |

Why is it so difficult to localize sound with only one ear? Comment from : N Tee |
|
hi how autism affect sound localization bryour videos is completely useful, thanks Comment from : A speech Pathologist |
|
Nice explanation but i have a question: how do we hear front or back the sounds coming from ear phones like in games or 8d music? Comment from : Dio Brando |
|
Thanks, useful info I'm trying to see how closely I can emulate the function of human senses such as hearing, with hardware and software - just for fun I am using timing and volume differences for horizontal direction but short of sticking on some fake ears to the hardware , I haven't attacked the vertical problem yet The other interesting problem is that the human ear/brain can usually estimate the distance of the sound, but I think this is more to do with recognising the sound and knowing how loud it should be if close or far away Any thoughts? thank you for helping my exam 🥲 Comment from : 481 984_Assyfa Atha |

Well that explains why when wearing my hearing aids, I gave trouble locating the direction of sounds - my hearing aids sit outside and on top of my ears eliminating the pinna effect Comment from : rudy1197 |
|
Thank you! Helped so much understand sound localization for my neuroscience midterm! Comment from : Isabel Azpilcueta Balsimelli |
|
How does Pinna effect work? I mean how exactly? Comment from : Diwakar Koirala |
|
Thanks a lot! Your video answered my question even though im always skeptical aboute these types of vids because its quite rare for them to actually contain the particular answer In my opinion well covered for basic info Btw i was curious aboute how can we locate origin of sound vertically Like we obviously dont have three ears, right? Do sound exist objectively ? Comment from : Must Hamou |

What if damn phone goes on silent and or do not disturb by itself That happens to every phone that I bought Comment from : A B |

i am a medicine student and this video helped me understand a lot about the ear and its functions thank you Comment from : Alexandros Dogoritis - MF |

It's coming from my headphones Comment from : Thomas Linssen |

How do we know if is coming frome behinde or from front?? Comment from : Samy Ciuta |

Informative one👌👌 Comment from : Santhosh G |

I have a question: my hearing loss is pretty even in both ears (maybe a 5dB difference at most), so is there a reason I might have difficulty localizing sound? Comment from : Natalia |
|
hello Doctor,br how can i contact with you Shoping for new HA and I need some advices from you Comment from : Kald M7md |
|
And how do we know when the sound is behind us ? Comment from : Diego Piedra |

Great explanation Comment from : Scot Frink |

Hey Dr Cliff absolutely love the videos Super helpful and informative brbrI personally would love to see some bloopers though I think that would be lots of fun Comment from : Robb jerls |

I have severe-profound hearing loss in both ears and struggle in determining where sound comes from while wearing my hearing aids brOn a side note, since you have a iPhone have your wife use the Find My Device app to ping your phone It will override the silent mode Comment from : eniveparg |

Our audiologist provided us with phonak marvel m aids for our 3 month old, but they said they are going to leave all of the filter features off (wind reduction, speech focus, etc) Wont that make it hard for him to hear in parks, daycare, and when there is background noise? brbrSecond question: he has moderate hearing loss, will he be able to hear us from a different floor with his phonak m aids on? Comment from : Cman |
|
O wow Yes, the phone! My husband has to find it for me Or the person calling to me on the street! This is my struggle! Single-sided deafness all my life, just now in the process of choosing a phonak CROS hearing aid I suppose until some new technology comes so that l can hear in my left ear, this will continue to be a struggle Thanks for very helpful information once again I am a huge fan! Comment from : Margie Brown |

Like the video I'm over 90 deaf in both ears, and never been able to locate were sound is coming from The bigger the area I'm in, makes it impossible Small rooms are better, but still have problems But I'm happy just to be able to hear like I do Comment from : Bruce Axelrod |

Really good topic to understand how one of the greatest features of hearing works! Comment from : ZERGG0 |
