This is an older video so now I'm curious if they fixed the lg compressor? Lol I'm sad to keep hearing that water dispensers make for a worse fridge, guess we should look into other filtration options perhaps is water with no ice maker better? We have terrible water

I am getting a new ge dryer to match my new ge washer this week, Oct 2023 I bought the old lg washer and dryer almost 17 years ago and never repaired either with a house of kids I am convinced my dryer has worked flawless because I used the lower temp delicate cycle 99 percent of the time I feel the lower heat helped things last longer The only reason I got rid of my LG is that they are getting old and I got a smoking deal on the GE employee discount website for a ge 650 washer and the matching 85 series dryer for under $1000

We have a Maytag Neptune set from about 2004 No breakdowns Only one time i thought i had to repair i thought it was the drainpump but actually was a plastic guitar pick stuck in the drain pump While i had the back apart I replaced the drain pump anyways

I loved my maytag for 40 yrs with only one break the handy hubbie easily fixed With a family of 5, 3boys it was super super dooper We sold one house but took the beloved Maytag with us We left it in the house when we downsized because how long can a washer last, I miss it to this very day 15 yrs later Didn't buy a maytag and the new one broke down with very little use after 10 yrs, hated the new one

I live in Asia and have a small 8 year old Samsung top loader Over here, nobody sells a washer with an agitator in it Just a flat plate with some small fins about an inch high I've abused this poor machine by washing heavy rugs and other things in it and have had NO issues Most laundromats here have LG and Samsung machines LG is the biggest seller in Asia and has a good service record Front loaders are showing up in the market here but they cost 30-50 more than top loaders There are lots of Chinese brands here like Hisense, TCL and Haier I had an Hitachi fridge but it has caused problems repeatedly so I bought a bottom freezer Hisense and am very happy with it Samsung fridges here cause problems just like their American models but their TVs are legendary Your videos are very helpful Thanks for doing them

Is it possible to find a inner tub gasket for a front loader that the Samsung OEM doesn't sell or have a part number for ? (They sell the rear tub assembly with bearings, seal, tub seal) all for the price that makes it not worth fixing or marginal I'm committed at this point The old seal is a little bit cracking trying to get some more years out of this how about I use old seal and a bead of flexible silicone to join the tub half together? What do you recommend ? Samsung WF45R6300AV

Ron Swirson
I'm a bit confused At the beginning of the video, you briefly mention that appliances have gotten less reliable in great part due to government regulations, which seems reasonable at first blush But if you look a bit deeper how does that reason explain the incredible reliability of old and new Speed Queens? Just wondering how you square that circle Is Speed Queen defying the government regulations? Or is it that Speed Queen builds better units with better parts and overall higher reliability than the others because as a company Speed Queen made a decision not to hit lower price points for higher profit margins like the others? Seems to me that's the issue, increased profit over higher quality, no? I might be missing something so if someone could, as I mentioned, square that circle for me it would be greatly appreciated
Comment from : Ron Swirson

Ponder Rosie
I am so very confused NO SQ are NOT ALL RELIABLE! I owned a Kenmore washer/dryer set, bought in the 1980s Dryer still going strong Washer died after 27 years We moved three times I feared the last move it might been damaged We had several things damaged by professional movers So, I bought a 'commercial grade" Speed Queen to replace it AWNE92SP113 This video like most of your videos suggests that SQs should last a long time You don't give any real numbers, though? For your 'junk' machines they will "only last 4-7 years" right? WELL, that Speed Queen lasted only 8-9 years I paid $800 One or both of the boards went bad and it cost $50000 with no guarantee that would be all to repair SO I bought a new one - I bought top of the line SQ TR7003WN It was JUNK! Came broken Arrived Monday - left Wednesday afternoon I have been trying to figure out what to buy and who you buy from is even more important it seems I realize now my power bill has been higher because of that SQ The motor is double what the other machines are I bought it because of the suspension and tub That was what broke on my Kenmore I never considered those boards! Or the price of those circuit boards! The SQs often times have TWO different boards!!! The machines are not engineered with any board protection So I am not sure how they can be so said to so great There is no way for a customer to replace those boards like we can with an icemaker in a sidebyside refrigerator And unlike when i was shopping for computers the particulars about a board is not known I have wondered if my machine was on the line when a bad batch of boards were used? I never received a recall? The tech did zero diagnostics Really just watched the machine return the same error code, claimed he called SQ (they say there is no record), he certainly called his dealer and WHA LA offer to repair for $500 The cost of the board is $260 per SQ Another reason I chose SQ was the front panel was supposed to make service easier I couldn't figure out why labor would be $240 for a machine where the cover and front panel were already off Over and over I watched videos (and I built one computer from scratch a few years back, and replaced icemaker board during COVID $800 total price of original equipment Washer has depreciated in value Yet the cost to repair would be over half and maybe almost 2/3 the original price That is what we call STUPID money in our home We have to be good stewards of GOD provides Scary, the tech said he couldn't be sure which board was bad and there was the possibility that the top board was bad - I WISH there was a video showing how to do a diagnostic test on those boards! GOOD GRIEF SQ is owned by RAYTHEON Yet another disconnect for me Times are tough right now The cost of the top board was never offered The dealer/service tech never offered anything in writing at all ( which I thought was really strange) And of course the 7 yr warranty JUST lapsed I now know the upper board's cost is around $82 Have zero idea how labor would be calculated! When the TR7003WN arrived it returned an error code and stopped working during the second load It was either defective from factory or damaged in transit or by dealer When the tech came, he did nothing but level the machine Which took him over a half an hour because he couldn't seem to get the nuts loose on the front feet My first SQ had self leveling feet both front and bad This one didn't And the tech said there was some sensor near the front right that was a design flaw and that was why the error codes kept happening brbrAs I wrestle with what to buy I want/need quality II can't tolerate unreliability NO subpar job that wastes resources and/or cause harm A quality washing machine should not require expensive repairs the moment the warranty expires Add in the cost of operating is greater every time you use a Speed Queen because of the power needed to operate I don't see how SQ is a good choice for most folks They don't last any longer than any of the other brands! Which is the real shock right now I never dreamed ANY and ALL washing machine would have an expected life of not more than 14 years! Technology (and govt interference) has actually moved that major appliance in the opposite direction Costs more but lasts for a shorter times Speed Queens cost more to buy AND more to use! And so far in my home, i have tried two and neither one worked half as long as a KENMORE built in the 1980s that cost $300 and moved three times The Speed Queens had the easy life in my home Yet, the second one never worked from the start brbrWhat oh what is out there that makes sense? That SQ AWNE92 for most of its life did one person's laundry No kids no animals Just one person And it was supposed to be commercial grade Are there no industry standards where washing machines go anymore? Trading on a name can only carry a company so far I was raised to consider 'per use" when determining the value of a purchase And your videos so far conflict with my personal experiences with Speed Queen Your brother owning a laundry mat means he folds maintenance into cost of biz He can easily just keep a rotation of machines coming and going to make sure he maximizes warranties For residential folks the demands are different And the math differs

TheReviewer
It's not "government": it's billionaires who own the governments all over the world They own the corporations that build the appliances and are investors in everything They want you to have to buy new appliances every year The old appliances lasted 30 or more years: now, they don't work on arrival, and they laugh at you when you try to get warranty service Some go so far as to break exactly on the day after warranty expires: the electronics are programmed to do that

Wow so informative! Thank you so much!!!! About 6 months ago I purchased the Frigidare Refrigerator your rank as #1 in reliability and ease of repair Both very important to me, very glad a made a good purchase I bought an LG top load Washer with agitator and I hate it It doesn't even move clothes from side of tub to the middle I am a stickler about over loading That is not the issue The agitator barely rotates Maybe it would be fine for someone who works in an office and perspires a little bit But if you work in a garden, do landscaping, or enjoy woodworking/painting; actual get your clothes dirty, the washer is totally ineffective and a waste of money I used it for two weeks and its currently sitting in my storage unit I saw too late there is a 72 hour return limit at Lowes on appliances here in Washington State

After only 6 years, my speed queen machine has died The control/drive assembly was defective and rendered this entire machine useless Speed queen refused to stand by their machine as it was "out of warranty" brSo much for most reliable brand, so much for 25 yearsbrApparently the 2015-16 models had defective drive boards but I guess they won't be doing right by me

My wife and I bought my parents' house in 1999 In 2015, we renovated the kitchen and replaced the appliances The fridge was still working fine, but didn't match the colors of the new kitchen (almond vs stainless) So we replaced it with a new one Out of curiosity, we looked up the S/N to see how old the almond fridge was (I remember it being new when I was living at home before college) The date code said it was either a 2004 or a 1984 Since I knew it was in the house before 1999 when we bought it, we knew it was from 1984brbrThe funny thing was, the amount of energy that the tag said the new fridge used annually was probably less than what the old one used in one month (based on estimates since Energy Star didn't have data for 1984) We sold the house (and fridge) a few years later Sadly, I'll bet that new fridge is probably nearing the end of its life while the old one is likely still chugging along at the rental house we sold it to

Have a top loading Maytag washing machine that has been in the family since the late '60s (I inherited it from my uncle after he passed almost 20-years ago) Works like a charm The drive motor was replaced by my uncle in the early '90s, and the timer mechanism has been replaced twice (that I know of)—by my uncle at about the same time (in the '90s) and myself a few years ago (during CoViD) Easy-peasy to install the timer mechanism myself—just took almost 6-months to get the part due to the CoViD shutdownbrbrAbout 15-years ago, I bought a new Kenmore dryer from a sackable front loading washer/dryer set from Sears (remember them?) Was going to buy the matching front loading washer a few years later when I could afford it (each was about 1'200CAD when I purchased the dryer) Never got around to buying the washer because the Maytag was still working fine (almost thankful I never threw away 1'200 bucks on a washing machine that would likely die in less than 10-years) Dryer still works fine 🤞brbrBought a Whirlpool electric range through Sears for about 600CAD about 10-years ago…within 5-years, two of the stovetop burners were nonfunctional (the thermostats were shot and to replace them would cost almost 200 dollars each… for a 600 dollar stove) Had to replace the bottom oven element after about 8-years, which cost almost 100 bucks itself Won't be buying a Whirlpool ever againbrbrFunny about with the old Maytag and the newer appliances is the old one is simple, rugged and are easy to DIY repair—the newer appliances have a lot of sensitive electronics in them that break down after a few years and require some expertise to repair (ie $$$) The point being cost efficiency: the Maytag timer coast about 200 bucks and if it lasts as long as the previous one did (almost 25-years), it was a bargain to replace; electronic components that last only a few years and cost 400 bucks to replace is hardly economical for any consumer

I need a new dishwasher and I'd love to buy a Bosch But I've been reading online about their optional junction box shorting out, catching on fire, etc I can't use the supplied plug because I have no outlet close nor accessible Is this a problem inherent in Bosch's design? A wire connection error by the installer? Some reviewers wrote that the unit was installed by a professional electrician yet they had the same issues What gives?

TheEudaemonicPlague
When our antique Maytag washer finally quit (it was decades old when we bought it thirty-some years ago), we bought a Speed Queen, partly because of the ten year warranty, and partly because I had a friend in the appliance business who pointed out that Speed Queen has an incredible reputation for commercial machines We've been using that machine for around twenty years, and it's showing no signs of getting tired The dryer is an ancient Kenmore, which needs the lint cleaned out, but otherwise will probably run for at least another ten yearsbrbrOur GE stove has one major flaw, and I'm steamed about it--the oven door handle was just one solid piece of Bakelite, and the problem with that is that it's brittlevery, very brittle So, now my oven door has no handle, and I'm not paying for another POS Bakelite handle Oh, and the glass front of the oven door is just held in place by friction, and wants to slide to the left or right When this stove dies, I doubt I'll buy GE again There's really no excuse for that door designbrbrWe bought a big Kenmore refrigerator about fifteen years ago, no more than a couple of years before our local Sears closed downnever got around to hooking up the water line for the ice maker (which, of course, is in the freezer), but someday, perhaps I'll get around to hooking it upbrbrFor small loads, when we can't deal with the basement stairs (we're both disabled), we bought a Black & Decker branded (I don't think they actually made it) top loading washerand it only lasted about a year or two before it started leaking I'm so frustrated with it that I'm thinking about getting rid of it, and replacing it with an LG or something I have a feeling, though, that my son reassembled it wrong, and the short filler hose has sprung another leakI'd told him to wrap it with electrical tape (to prevent a new hole being worn through), but I don't think he was listening

I spent weeks researching a washer and dryer, I knew speed queen was everyone's number 1 choice, but what really helped was when you mentioned that I can buy a cheap no frills Amana dryer So, i was able to get my speed queen and a dryer for under 2k that is only a couple hundred dollars more than the cheap crappy whirlpool with a plastic bottom and gimmicky removable agitator

I can offer a suggestion of one brand Not to buy just because they put a bolt that rusted within a few months time to secure the impeller of their Washing machine!!! That would be Black & Decker WHO does that??
Comment from : Becca

Bob
I think that, in general, the more basic the machine is the better All those extra cycles and features are things that can break down The electronic controls are nifty, but when they go sour it's usually a very expensive repair

Walts Channel
I've seem the commercial Maytag models at Lowe's for sure I did not know that was real Thought it was marketing only I've had a whirlpool duet front loader for 20 years They only thing I've replaced is the washer door gasket I've kept the dryer free of lint, so the original thermal fuses, thermostats high limit fuse, etc are still good
