Hey Jeff, I just bought a house that's mostly in decent shape except for the super old siding and single-pane windows You mentioned siding yourself could be cheap and even cheaper if you know where to shop, do you have any suggestions on where to shop to get quality siding for cheap? Also, any suggestions on best bang for your buck window manufacturers?? Andersen windows seem ridiculously overpriced Your content has seriously saved me a bunch of money over the years I can't thank you enough for that Comment from : Nick |

I disagree on those Vinyl Windows Pitching your old wood framed windows, that some have lasted for over ONE HUNDRED YEARS and was made from original old growth trees, could potentially last for another 100 years is fool hearty!!! All that HEARTWOOD from the slow natured, growing trees was lost by 1940 A Vinyl window is cheap I agree, but DON'T THROW AWAY your wood framed windows just because it's easier to replace the whole window than buying a heat gun and scraping out the Glazing!!! Those windows can be updated and continue making your house look beautiful for another hundred years Have you ever seen a hundred year ole' Vinyl Window??? DIY's can restore old wood frames for pennies!!! ;-) Great video, just HAD to say this one point!!!brThis goes for all you home buyers who frown on America's vast resources of older built homes too!!! Buy a home (Pre 1940's) if you have a chance and the quality of your home will far exceed even a newly built home The wood you get in these times comes from quickly grown trees with VERY LITTLE HEARTWOOD!!! Just look at how far apart the growth rings are In old growth wood you would see maybe 25 rings an inch while the new growth wood in stores today you may only see 7 rings This is called SAP WOOD, it will rot, twist and warp in the first 20 years JUST FROM HUMIDITY!!! Do some research, this is one reason New Home Sales has diminished so much!!! (If you get real lucky and find a pre 1924 home it will even have real 2X4's instead of 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" thru out your house) Comment from : Lonnie McVaigh |

This is the best youtube channel I've stumbled on in years Thank you!! Sometimes the YT algorithm does deliver hahabrbrHey I was wanting to ask whether you have any tutorials or tips for how to convert a double sided out of comnission fireplace into wall space? Thinking of pulling off the mantle and brick work and trying to install drywallbrbrOne side has an out of commission gas heater in it and the other side has an empty heart with a metal shield over it Both have horrible brick mantles - one goes into living area, one in dining area I'd like to just board them over so that there is the possibility the chimney could be used down the track, but would like to make it look as much like a normal wall in the meantime as possible brI've been able to find a lot of videos about renovating and refreshing fireplaces or totally removing, but not a cover up job like thisbrThanks! Comment from : Micah |

Our house was made in the early 90s and when we moved in, we discovered half the windows no longer stay up on their own Along with that, the house is extremely drafty so I’m assuming the insulation is very lackluster through the whole house Since we would rather do new construction windows, would it be beneficial for us to reside the house at the same time and add insulated siding? I’m curious how that would stack up with the ‘window replacement’ category, too Comment from : Rex |
|
The manufacturer’s installation guidelines says “Do not install cabinets or fixed objects on top of the SPC flooring I’ve already removed refrigerator and cabinets from my kitchen floor renovation I always thought it was better to have your flooring under your cabinets And how would you not install the flooring under the fridge? Comment from : Md Hays |

ROI is important but it is not everythingbrI do understand that point of that video is about getting money back However, let's enjoy our life while making the money, even if it makes our ROI smaller :-)brbrIf you sum up all the hours you spend on a deck (or outside in general) throughout a year and compare that number against hours spend in a kitchen (or inside in general), you will see why Kitchen is #1 priority for renovation Kitchen is the heart of the house, so, make it gorgeous and make it functional You will enjoy it while you live in that house and you will sell you house faster and for better price once it is time to movebrbrIn my opinion, it is better to renovate inside first, because this is where you live and this is what you see every minute of your life Sure, you can do stone on the outside, so, you neighbors will enjoy the view, but why!? It is better to paint the house interiors and enjoy fresh look yourselfbrbrI prefer to have basic sauna in my basement rather than magnificent deck, because I can enjoy sauna any day of a year and deck is covered in snow 8 months out of 12 Sauna ROI is close to ZERO, I guess, but maybe, we should renovate a house to improve our living conditions, not just to measure ROI?brbrPS I apologize for being negative, I love your videos, they helped me a lot with my sauna project! Comment from : KM |

I’ve said this on other videos, but I’ll say it forever You’re such a great teacher and help me make sense of everything! As soon as I have the budget for it, I’m replacing my garage door My current door isn’t electric and is 40 years old and is falling down It NEEDS to be done but I’m glad to know it’s got a good ROI Comment from : Sugoi Harris |
|
