The STORY I read is the United States was unsure if Japan would take the Islands, they didn't want American Money to fall into the hands of Japanese, so they put Hawaii on all the notes, so if Japan did take the Hawaiian Islands, the US could now make all the money useless by decreeing that any Hawaiian money is now illegal due to being under control of Japan

The version of the Hawaii Dollar story I had read was that there was a concern that the Japanese military could take the Hawaiian islands if they managed to break the US carrier fleets (not an impossible outcome when they were looking at it in 1935) So the idea of the Hawaiian Dollar was that if the islands were taken the US would order all financial institutions to devalue the Hawaiian Dollar, so that the Japanese couldn't spend them in neutral countriesbrbrWith a lot of stories like this, more than one reason could be correct

Those 1935 and 1957 in grade 66 PSG, are going for $45, they are selling them on Facebook coin & currency pages,, one guy is selling them all day long $45 people are buying them up, I just that information should be in the greensheet,, you're from Long island West Islip,, I had a coin store in hauppauge vets highway 1990, I was buying silver eagles in 1991 for $3 each, spot was$450, nobody wanted them, they wanted baseball cards, now the 90s baseball cards are worthless,,, I had a chance to get a $500 1918 fine very fine for $1,700 in 1991 at the sayville Mall, I didn't have the money beautiful note

He's a little off in his explanation for the issuance of bills with the Hawaiian overprint These bills were issued in the event Hawaii was captured by the Japanese, all of the currency with the overprint could be rendered worthless brAll regular US currency was ordered to be exchanged for the special Hawaiian bills The exchanged currency was burned, rather than being shipped back to the United States The Hawaii bills were issued in denominations of $1, $5, $10 and $20; There were no $50 bills issued with the overprintbrThe special North African currency was issued for the same reason: it could be devalued if North Africa fell to the Germans
