Cool experiment I have a lot of copper pennies as well that I have saved over the years but the price of copper somehow keeps me from turning them into the bank Until someone starts offering above face value for them it is probably a bad way to tie up cash that could be used for more coin and currency hunting so I just might turn mine in as well Thanks for sharing Happy Hunting! Alot of people asking about copper weight and price vs turning them into the bank, the regular pre 1982 pennies were 95 copper, and right now the price is at 267 per ounce according to NYSE They weigh 311 grams each, 283495 grams to an ounce, figure 10 pennies for an ounce, so yeah worth quite a bit more if you don't factor in the cost to melt down the pennies and time it takes to do so Coinman 5k has melted copper before, and for education might in the future melt down a "batch" of pennies, maybe 50 of them to see what the results would be, even though copper is no where near as a clean melt as silver is
