Crowns are intended to be Commemorative Coins, although they do have a value and are legal tender There have been many Crowns made over the years I agree that Churchill became a great man during WW2, he was by no means perfect, I won't list he failings here, but he was no Saint

It is not 25p, as there were 12p in a shilling and a crown is 5 shillings so it is 60p In the 1960s the process of decimilisation was happening so two types of currency were in circulation - the new decimal currency had 20 shillings in a pound worth 5p per shilling The crown is pre-decimal so not 25p but 60p

I have not visited your coin-roll hunts for a while, but I wanted to tell you I watch all of your posts, and learn something new on each visit I have 4 of these Churchills; have had them for many years They look satiny and if the designer’s initials are on the coin where would they have been placed? I see very faint (something) at left of Churchills head near the top of his collar, on all four coins Keep those YouTube videos coming We all enjoy them here in PA!

I'm really pleased that you mentioned the Churchill coin Few people knew of this and yes including me He was in the last cavalry charge in the 19th century at Omdurman with the 21st lancers? He wrote the History of the English Speaking People (4 volumes), and many other works including the History of the Second World War, was captured by the Boers in the Boer war and escaped with a price on his head Ran around in Cuba as a correspondent covering the rebels in Spanish Cuba He was blamed for the Dardenelles amphib disaster when it was poorly executed This is one reason he left the Admiralty in WW to serve in the trenches I'm not sure but he was the one invlolved with the "land boat" and was on a committee and came up with the labelling of crates "tank" as in water tank for troops in the field for the western front and labelled as such to keep secret Really impressed with the quotes you produced I'm always learning at your posts

I took my daughter to her first coin show( she's 10) about one year ago and a nice WW2 Vet had a table My daughter thanked him for his service and he looked around his boxes of coins and gives her the two headed Churchill coin It's big, heavy and really cool looking $140000 buys a lot of candy she said!
