I have to disagree that a compound bow cannot be restrung in the bush, I keep a small double hooked and locking hook ratcheting strap (any ratchet strap will do) and spare strings and sections in my bow bag You can pull the bow by the cams with the strap removing string tension or closing the bow enough to get a new one on to remove or replace strings without a bow press but you must make sure to only just go past string loose as letting the strap go with a lot of slack is scary None the less, I do my own restrings this way bush or home 👍

You can use a trigger release with a re-curve Just set it up that way Use the same anchor point for either bow and the same release brYeah, the compound can be more accurate, but if you have tuned your arrows to your re-curve and you have stabilized your anchor point, your should be good with either 😊

I feel it's what you started and have practiced with for me im far better with a recurve both are able to take down large game and even a human that may be a threat so I feel the recurve is my choice I have one experience with them

It's a tricky question I enjoy the simplicity, lightness, and beauty of a wood grain recurve But they are harder to shoot accurately I'm hoping to become as good as you someday

Thanks for a good videowe do have a lot of bowhunting here in the US, but if you're using a recurve, most places require a draw weight over 50 pounds for hunting That's not such a big deal, but like you said, requires training to be any good

Can’t you use the arrow release from the compound bow on the recurve bow for better consistency??? All it’s doing is holding the arrow and is mounted on your wrist, or am I wrong???

As a survivalist I would much rather have a takedown recurve, in the past I've had to gift my compound to someone because I had nowhere to store it and was going back to the nomad way of life in the Appalachian mtns, I have the same recurve as Lilly and I have a waterproof gig bag for it which allows me to strap it onto my pack and have it anywhere

6:17 I know this video is old as hell, but with a newer style recurve like the one she has in this video you can buy and install a sight on it They usually have mounts for it on the bow

I enjoyed this video I am fairly new to archery and live in Australia I like recurve bows because I like the idea of the traditional I started with a takedown, but just recently bought a Scythian horse bow style recurve built in Hungary I find that just natural and you are so right about weight I have shot a compound but just love the feel and sound of a recurve

Considering all the pros and cons, with being lighter and easier to repair, the former could be something that the use can power through not that much of a big deal when idle traveling Repairing the recurve makes sense but let's assume that in the case of not having to repair it lb for lb, compound seems objectively better so why would anyone ever want to use a recurve? What benefits does it have in terms of loosing an arrow?brThe only thing I can think of is pride Using the trigger on a compound seems like a crutch like you don't need skill in that regard Kinda like someone saying "I don't need a sight I've built the skills in my eyes" or something like that they would take pride in building that skill

Also a crossbow could be a consideration if you want even faster shooting arrows/bolts modern crossbows seem to be higher tech and easier to aim but one thing I would say is that crossbows also have a history in tradition the big difference in them is modern crank style and lever or pull style

Compound bows were invented in the early 70's The tried and true "traditional" bows have been around for over 65,000 years There is a reason why compound bows are not in the olympics They really are NOT a bow Bummer they got the word bow mixed up in its name Yes to recurve bows!!! Also, some recurve bows can go for thousands of dollars depending on the make and model There really is a tremendous range

For straight enjoyment I prefer longbow/recurve bows It’s more engaging and you feel apart of the shot, where with a compound bow I feel detached from the shot Hard to explain, with a long bow you aim your arrow, and with the compound you aim the bow… that being said for hunting I use my compound as it’s far more accurate, and far more powerful And I feel it’s the more ethical choice for me

I used a recurve as a kid and was damn accurate shooting haybale strings off etc now I have my Mathew’s v3 and I have to say I miss shooting recurve The idea that you are dead in the water with a compound bow is a good point if the string breaks But the compound bow I have is dead quiet You can hit a deer and they wouldn’t even know they’d been hit it’s so quiet the string and powerful
