The "ping" sound test is a very quick, effective, cheap, easy way to get a decent idea of what you're holding It's obviously not the end-all, be-all of precious metals tests, but it can set your mind at ease sometimes Tungsten has some of the weight, but not the tell-tale 'ringing' sound like gold does Phony gold-clad tungsten has a 'dead' thud sound to it

You would need two eagles to make one fake eagle to machine them out like that Scroll saw would require to much fineness to get everything to line back up, and too time consuming, plus would have to make up for lost material Was probably done on a CNC

Not really surpriced The Sigma is a great tool but one needs to know its limitations It can only test objects to a certain depth and that is much less than typical coins except perhaps for DucatsbrThat is why you need other tests too and for bullion the ping test is probably the hardest to beat That coin would ping wrong Oh and beside you can no problem make a copper alloy that'll test as gold on the Sigma but ofcourse weight will be wrong but if you don't weight the item and for smaller items Again It's a nice tool as long as you know its limitations It's just like trusting your caliper to test whether or not a coin is real - can't stand alone you need other tests too

3 fakes from ebay the last 6 months 2 morgans 1 silver eagle, got my money back on all, one wanted coin back to verify on there end, they found it to be fake do not buy much silver anymore, sticking with gold now, very interesting on the hollowed out gold eagle, never thought about someone doing that
