I found a 1918 buffalo nickel that has had a rockwell test done on it on three different spots on the obverse from what I can see It's a little worn, but the rockwell test didn't start until 1919 I would guess it was one of the first to get the test It was in a coin shop just piled in a basket with several other coins for $1-$2 a piece I definitely picked that one out and bought it It was interesting to me I also got a normal 1990 s proof set that the coins are really good condition in, definitely MS conditions The half dollar seems to have some weakness in the motto, but it's so hard to tell with how shiny they are Definitely check out coin shops and what they have in baskets and just in piles I find things that sell for over double on eBay in auction I had a good time on my vacation in Florida a little over a week ago He had some good old coins that I had only seen in books and online There were so many more I would have bought if I had more money Pawn shops have some good cheap ones too I got a widow's mite from BC for $1 at one, just thrown in a dollar basket Antique and consignment stores don't seem to know the value of things they have either They might be experienced, but they never met a person with an eye for price that told them Just like artifacts, fossils, and old art; some say $1 until you find the thousands to millions of dollars value they never imagined Coin shops tend to say things are fake or not worth anything if they think it's too rare to find or something they don't know Grading companies get that way too It really probably puts a lot of good things in the trash Granted some are fake, but not everything If it's from 15-20 feet in the ground, I have a hard time saying it's not real They almost waste time My grandpa had a graded gold coin with certificate and everything that a guy said he had to take it out of the case and drill a hole into it to prove it's gold all the way through Needless to say, bad coin shop Who drills a whole into a valuable coin because they don't believe the grading company? They are destroyers of anything good You don't take a graded coin out of the case and drill holes in it They took over the shop from their dad that had it and got really dumb I wouldn't take a coin there even if they pleaded me for it I won't help destroy They never got the gold coin, some other place and person did My grandpa likes to tell that story Complete bad coin dealers 💵 Comment from : Tyler Ray Matters |

Well over 50 years ago I was able to pull all three “raised ground” 1913 nickels out of pocket change Of course they have little value because the date is worn off all three, but the mint marks are still well defined and the raised ground makes it obvious what they are even without dates Comment from : Mike Waters |
