I don't agree with a lot of the things in this video I have completed around 21 out of 30 credits for MSDS CU Boulder via Coursera so I am a little eligible to share my thoughts:brbr1 US has higher acceptance for Online degrees because their degrees are really similar to the offline one Similar professors, similar syllabus and projects Even degree certificate is similar Its not so in India In India a lot of Online degrees even contain words that it is Online or what not on the certificate This create an issue for recruiters in India as they are seeing resume with big online words written on itbrbr2 I myself have enrolled in the degree from a commerce background I didn't even know the existence of R,Tensorflow, CNN, and other things but now I can code them and enter the Kaggle Competitions It was not possible if I had taken a MSDS created by Indian universities You see, US ones like CU Boulder has their own courses and assistance if you lack the basic requirements There are tons of courses if you don't know about something It's on you to learn them Its very self-disciplinedbrbr3 Online degrees are not just watching the video and getting the certificate if you take the ones from the good US ones In last course I submitted my projects in 4 Kaggle competitions, a single course had 4 assignments that required us to enter the project and peers will check your work There are also Exams, proctored exams with sufficient difficulties In some cases your assignment gets checked by Teaching Assistant too Overall, its a lot of work to do, it has been months I have seen Netflix or even played games properly That's how much content is herebrbr4 Skill building is a Hoax too Its even more important to stay motivated and learn the things for which you have passion Skills will come on their own and so does money But if you don't have passion its nothing And high quality Online degrees require this kind of passion I have seen projects from my peers with plagiarism and even posting blank assignments, but in turn they get bad score and possibility of failing the course and US top universities are ruthless if you go below minimum in Masters In MSDS you need at least 73 more in each course and more than 83 overall If you fall below 30 GDP or 83 you will face severe issues In fact you can only get certificate if you have 83 or better overall percentage across all the coursesbrbrMaybe this is true only for MSDS which can introduce projects without much human interactions Or maybe its only Indian Online Degrees which are having issue Regardless of that I can conclude from my experience that Online Degrees from Good Universities across the world are rigorous and not so forgiving that you can just troll around and treat them as a paper you paid for They will have a lot of topics to cover, from beginner to advanced, you will be given a lot of books to read, you will have to do a lot of real world projects which you can use even for your resume, and you will have to take proctored exams Only those who have drive are able to do this as there is almost no social assistance, its only you, your books, and laptop And above that, its difficult to complete if your drive is money only, but if you seek knowledge and skills it will be a good experience Maybe even more rigorous than traditional colleges because you are responsible for a lot of things Comment from : Anubhav |

Okay so doing “only an online degree” yes it’s a bad idea But nowadays I feel “doing only a degree is a bad idea” be it offline or online It doesn’t make any sense unless you consciously know what you’re learning and it’s a real life skill, and ofc unless you practice it If it’s management you should take up projects if it’s accounting you should analyse real life balance sheets etc In a degree you will learn what others have theorised about that topic, but alongside that you have to have your own practice and way to do a degree because doing it just by reading and scoring marks is literally waste of time Comment from : Zoya Khan |
