The Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is real and it’s wonderful When this old veteran (me) was living in Granite City, Illinois they stepped up and paid my entire energy bill While I was in the VA hospital getting my appendix removed they made sure that was one less thing I had to worry about At the time I was living with a girlfriend who went on to join the military as well That’s two veterans they helped I don’t know all the programs but I’ll step up and give a testimony when Mr Lesko mentions one that has helped me It’s real, Mr Lesko is doing good work and LIHEAP will help you Good luck out there!

Thank you for saying those things about the poor, using programs to help during these times Things are tough for those with barely enough to live on I have to rethink my finances now as SSI is not available to those over 65 These programs are also not self employment friendly Being on it, you can't live on what they give and you sure can't save for the future Now I am just trying to avoid ending up on the street $754/mo won't cover anything

Matthew; I am a 64 year old single mother, I am handicapped and I living in a two bedroom apartment, with 13 stairs up to the bedrooms and bathroom I also have a basement with the same number of stairs to climb I've fallen 4 times down the stairs and 2 time up the stairs I pay a huge rent and am trying desparately to get into an elderly apartment with one bedroom which has elevators My problem is I pay bills and rent and have nothing left for which to save for a security deposit or even a $50 appliation fee or to move I am putting a second application for a HUD Section 8, and I was told by 211 there is no longer help for me out there-when I see other people get help with electric bills, rent , and other bills I worked for around 30 years, am I not qualified for help somewhere?????
