The war in Ukraine has shown that drones and people with rockets can overcome heavier fighting vehicles That hasn't happened before where one person could knock out a tank or helicopter We may need less tanks in the future and more drones So, hell yes the USA needs to be THE cutting edge of technology That's why the F-35 is so superior to the Russian jets You don't need a big army when you have technologically trained people who know how to work equipment You have to pay them more but they're worth every penny But I've worked in supplying military contracts and there is a lot of pork-barrel, that's for sure Favoritism for different congressman's districts to manufacture some defense need even if it's not the most economical

Its pointless to compare military budgets for one russia and china and in an active expensive war with anyone so there budgets are much more efficient and have large stockpiles of weaponry and much of which we likely know nothing about, where as the us military budget it wasted in the middle east, think how many humvees/helicopters have been destroyed, how many weapons have been taken by the enemy, also think how much feul those vehicles used over there and how much feul was used to get them there and the wages of the people on active duty and the cost of the bombs that have already been used, now just think about it after years of the us pissing away a significant portion of its weaponry in the middle east both Russia and chine will have a significant stockpile of missiles and vehicles

Hopefully Trump stays in office to make sure NATO countries pay their share instead of just riding our backs relying on our spending We also need to keep our economy strong to make sure we maintain this military powerhouse If it wasn’t for the United States military our world would be a very different place If we cut our spending in half, other countries would be doomed All of this spending shows you how much they care about troops coming back home safely unlike other countries Unfortunately we live in a anti-American society that can’t even appreciate what we do around the world We can spend that money here at home instead of protecting countries that don’t even care about us but no, we have a heart and care for others

Imagine an office all sharing responsibility for a coffee bill and you buy a cup of coffee for $20 When getting called out for your expense, your "reasoning" for such an expensive purchase is "well the coffee brand that I get is just $20" It still doesn't answer the question of WHY we are everywhere, or WHY we allow the military contractors to soak up so much of our resources when the average American certainly does not benefit from it, and they foot the bill

Personally I don’t think the US Military budget is to bigAfter reading the “official budget” released on the DOD website using some “General Rounding” brings the official budget for “forces assets and materials” that could actually be used in a war to between “$380 Billion to $430 Billion” yearly but when you really break that down and reduce that number for maintenance, other countries shortfalls “ie Germany”, untested R&D, “longterm troop benefits” you see a massive drop in what the functional military budget actually is Putting a number on the “deployable” military is hard but it sits somewhere between “$270 billion and $340 billion” and that number also includes the “nuclear triad” which is clearly not deployable for obvious reasons Contrasting this budget to “Russian and China” is incredibly hard for 3 major reasons 1 Is their top line number an honest representation of the actual budget 2 How much of that budget is lost to fraud and corruption 3 Are they paying the “full cost” for goods or are those good being significantly discounted through fraudulent contracts, use of “slave” labor, using stolen intellectual property, “real” assets or are they “phantom” assets like most new Russian vapor-wear like the new Russian T-14, SU-57, Russian Hypersonic Weapons or the Chinese H-20, Chinese “Dark Sword”? All the mentioned assets maybe “real” deployable assets one day but today are really nothing more than high tech demonstration weapons that represent untold amounts of bribery, intellectual property theft and “overstatement” of abilities to both operate and be mass produced If the US wanted to include “all defense labeled” activities under one budget it would be annually $15 to $19 Trillion and frankly you can make an argument with the way things are going this wouldn’t be an “unjustified” defense budget as a percentage of our GDP it would bring us as a percentage closer to the Kennedy era budget
