Reaching out if you’ve solved this mystery? I have a couple 1972 Kennedy Halves that weigh 103 grams I now found one that weighs 99 grams Is this worth getting graded if it can even be graded I will say this coin is in excellent shape Who would you suggest? Or just save it as a oddity

Im so glad to find an answer I have a 72 and it weighs 1116 I also believe that it is slightly smaller in circumference Just a smidge, I haven't measured it though

I just found a 72 P that has the same sound and weighs only 104 g Any follow up on this or ??? Just wondering I thought about the Quarter stock theory but the thickness debunks that theory

Wouldn't it not make a difference what was stamped into the the planchet wait ok the hole point of the weight was because a $1 silver coin weig 26 grams two50 cent silvers weigh 12 6 so quarters weigh 63

How much thinner is the quarter sheet? You would have been able to measure the the difference There have been a lot of counterfeit coins released into circulation from various sources Do the grading companies have any info on this? I'm going with fake on this one

Possible magician coin check edge closely And check back for it to not be inline Mark on back is were it was held to be sandwiched apart BTW it makes that sound because it's hollow

Interesting If it were a more valuable coin -- it would most likely be a fake But, in this case you are most likely on the right trail I suspect NGC and PCGS would know more

Did you check the dimensions? Quarters from '72 should weigh 56 gms, I believe 6 something if it's an error I'm thinking wrong planchet, possibly something foreign? Also, I can't really tell but it looks like there might be some doubling on the obverse from your picture Maybe you want to check this out? Or post a some good pictures?

I have a 72 jfk exactly like that I believe it's a D mint Sounds funny, and same weird light strike on the bottom right by the 72 I hung on to it, but haven't got around to researching it I need to get a digital scale
