I find it amazing in these discussions, it’s always just assumed that the parents are going to pay 100 of the college expenses of their kids We always saw that as irresponsible Comment from : bcardamone |

We have a Junior in a State College and a HS Senior Our boys know they are responsible for 20 of college They can go in-state, private or out of state They learn quickly which to choose!brOur college student used scholarships to pay for 80 of his college So glad we have a younger one to use up the funds in his 529 fund Comment from : Craig Anderson |

If you're white middle class, you're not getting FAFSA money anyway So, stop worrying about your financial footprint The best you'll get is a subsidized loan, which will have fees and a high interest rate brInstead, start your plan with $100/mo auto invest on the day jr is born Every 4 years increase that investment by $100 You'll have nearly $80k when jr starts college State lottery plan will fund the remainder brTwo kids through highly ranked University at $120k each zero loanszero stress no brainer Comment from : Steve Cox |
|
If you want them to stay in a dorm with a meal plan at a 4 year you will need at least $100k in the 529 Comment from : ahdfakjh ajfdandkj |

I think what puts my mind at ease about over funding 529's is that they can be passed down to the eventual grandkids if the kids don't use it all I also hope for the opportunity to one day reward my kids, using 529 money, for getting scholarships Would love a new car purchase for my kids coming out of a 529 plan!! Thanks to the Trump Administration you can now use the 529 for high school tuition which I have had to do since the public schools went sideways Comment from : Mitzi73 |
