I spoke to someone involved with the rollout of the notes when the $50 was being released The reason they skipped the $20 was because of the amount of counterfeit $50 notes in circulation

The first polymer $10 note was not a roaring success, the Captain Cook hologram rubbed off They had to quickly modify it so that there was an additional layer of polymer over the hologram I saw one on ebay for $10,000!

When the new notes were first released it was absolutely hilarious watching old people get mad at the self serve checkouts in supermarkets essentially bricking themselves as they couldnt figure out the new notes Felt so bad for the attendants trying to deal with them

Have you ever tried working a cash till with US notes in it? It is terrible as they are all the same colour whereas the Aussie notes are so easy to distinguish by their bright colours
