Advice from a DA here!! You dont need to go to school to become a DA, i did and it was a waste of money, everything you will be learning it in the job, school is just for you to have an idea and once u start working the dr will tell you to forget what you have “learned “ and learn the way they do things because every dr works differently and every time you start a new job as a DA it feels like you are new even tho you been in the field for years In all this 7 years we have teach people how to assist without them going to school The best DA that I’ve met never went to school, you just have to be smart on calling office by office to ask them is they are willing to teach you and you will find it

general assistants do alot of their own too but its just soooo much! Fitting temporaries and filing them done, all of the lab work, impressions, placing dental dams and matrix bands, packing cords around the gum line etc I did my externship in a general dentist and I've never been so overwhelmed

Did you ever want to hygiene? I wanted to do dental hygiene so bad but things have happened recently and I don’t think I’m going to be able to do it I am starting dental assisting school in March and I’m very excited but still kinda bummed bc it wasn’t what I wanted to do initially

I started in general dentistry and i would cry very often just because I didn’t understood it and it will be very frustrating Switching to Ortho was the best thing, i enjoy what i do and the best part is when the patient is so happy with the end result 😄

This was so helpful I’m a DA and I’ve struggled finding an assisting job, I’m like you and knew I wanted to go into orthodontics from the beginning I have an interview with an orthodontist next week that works at an office with some general dentists also! They said they don’t need experience and are just looking for someone with the background knowledge and personality for the job! Any tips?? Or any specific things I should study up on? Thanks babe

If you don't mind me asking, what state are you in? I'm in school for DA and it's only 5 weeks and I feel like it's not for me, my externship is in a few weeks and it's for about a month In my state (CA) they said you have to be an RDA before you become an ortho DA? Not sure if this is true or no I'll have to do more research but right now im leaning towards Ortho, or Endo

School says 2 days in person, 3 days with Zoom because of Covid situation I am nervous because it takes a long commitment And other than that was your school accredited by ADA or CODA?
