I'm really happy to hear someone younger be wise enough to value time so highly At 50, I have about 25 more good years in me, and I don't want to squander any of it (Although I am lazy a lot of the time :)

David Maya
i can’t convince my parents cause i only pay $10 a month at my gym💀

Christian Haro
I think my favorite part about having a home gym is my ability to train how I want, when I want, and without interruption The ability to mix in PT pyramids and conditioning circuits utilizing a variety of equipment without having to stop and share is invaluable!!
Comment from : Christian Haro

Austin Killam
This was one of my favorite videos from GGR I started a home gym rescently, and with my wife, mom, and kids using it, it offsets the cost much more quickly for qny qddition than if it was just mebrbrI also like how it wasn't just about money, but the fringe benefits of having a home gym My excuse for years has been the transportation time, and cost So glad this video has been made
Comment from : Austin Killam

The Engineer
Building a home gym was the best thing I've done in my home I workout better, I'm stronger, I save time and money, and I eat better It's truly a game changer
Comment from : The Engineer

Grant Cozzi
Since I lack reliable transportation, the only way to guarantee workout schedule adherence was to purchase equipment for my home I also went to the gym in years past, but always ended up quitting a few months in My training partners and I also lacked training knowledge, so it was the blind leading the blind Having my own gym puts me in the driver's seat, and I couldn't be more pleased
Comment from : Grant Cozzi

Ed Hage
So much blabbing and no practical answers

AllTheGear
$58! wow gyms in america are expensive and this was two years ago Budget gyms in the UK are £13/month and a good gym is £30/month (outside of London) The maths of owning a home gym still work but will take longer to pay for itself
Comment from : AllTheGear

George Buckley
Great video mate, you cover some great points! Defo taking notes because your channel is very informative I recently dropped a vid on saving money working out, niche video but I thought it was important! Any support would mean a lot, I'm still in the early growth of my channel so it's a little hard! Keep it up :)

catrat343245
For me, a homegym is more expensive Gym membership is 15euros and my home gym is so far about 3k euro However, I don't want waste the traveling time and don't want to wait for fuckers curling in the squat rack

I have a home gym and switched to it after canceling my commercial gym membership 2 years ago I went to a boxing gym that did not have enough equipment to allow me to workout on what I needed to without waiting for people to finish their sets The air conditioner didnt work there and the music was terrible (pop, not metal at all) It was difficult to manage parenting and work/workout time with gym travel as wellbrEventually I added it up and after 2 years A home gym would pay for itself if I just got the stuff I need all at once and drop the regular gym I bought a power cage that came with a bench, a bar and weights as well A friend gave me adjustable dumbbells they didnt use anymore and I gathered broken or old equipment from schools and yard sales After a few months I had a fully stocked up home gym that allowed me to workout in any way I wanted with whatever music I wanted and I never regretted it sincebrHardest part was how mad my wife was with the initial cost, but you know what they say, buy once, cry once Now she uses the home gym as well and loves it Thats one less monthly payment and we couldnt be happierbrThanks Coop for all the motivation and giving me the final push to just go for it and not think about it anymore

I'm saving I got a deal for bumper plates ordering a bar now need to save for the 400 dollar wall mounted squat rack I have a few dumbells need more weight a treadmill and a 6 foot mma bag with wall mounted cables for the dumbell plates on the other wall 12 by 10 room Great set up I'll get adjustable dumbells later I do have a bench But ill need stall mats just gotta see if I can clear that with the squat rack and the low floor beams In time I'll get the squat rack

David Bayer
I agree 100 I have only one argument that speaks against having your own gym When you live in a bigger city, you probably have to pay more for a bigger apartment and less for a gym membership At least it’s like that in Germany Might be cheaper to go in a bigger gym, even though I hate embr I bought my homegym equipment yesterday and will bring it with me wherever I will live Paid 500€ used and got a Rack, nice bank, barbell, SZ, 4 dumbbells and 130kg (286lbs) of plastic weight and resistance bands (my personal favourite at the time, those things can be wild) with more to come and I couldn’t be more happy with it Beating the shit out of you in privacy or with a bro while slamming your own music is fckn gold!
Comment from : David Bayer

Martin
Wanting a new phone, but purchased a power rack instead No regrets
Comment from : Martin

Jason Murray
I do not have a home gym because my wife puts all sorts of shit in the garage :-) brSeriously I have to get most of it off the floor and into a ceiling storage rack before I can get one But that is the goal for 2021 This BS lockdown makes me never want to be with my ability to workout the way I want because gyms are closed
Comment from : Jason Murray

Anthony ANT-BEATZ Anderson
The Price of my home Gym is less than $30000 My bench is a basic weider bench press bench that is adjustable and can hold up ro about 400lbs The bench itself cost about $5000 It has adjustable racks for bench pressing and the racks can also be adjusted high for squats The bench can lay flat for flat benching or it can incline for incline bench pressing I have a standard 20lb bar that can hold about 250lbs The bar cost another $5000 The bench also has a leg lift station Last but not least is the weights I have 400lbs of plastic cement + cast iron weights which cost another $10000 cHeap but I have the results to show what happens when you put the work in

You have to take into space into account The economics of a home gym speaks for itself over time, but if you take space into account the lines get blurry Im kinda a minimalist, so i dont want to own more than i need, if i have to buy 10-20 m2 more than what i need, this is potentially rented housing im not sure if the math adds upbrbrIf you where to assume that everyone has room that would also not be fairbrbrDont get me wrong, im def getting a home gym, but for the vast majority i dont see the appeal

Deffective Doggo
I made a home gym with 4x4 beams and 2x4s, 1 inch metal gas pipes, cake molds for concrete weights, concrete, a pulley and a cable, carabiners, towing straps, and nuts and bolts All for under 300 dollars Used basic hand tools and borrowed a drill and its bits from a friend Asked my dads friend for some welding help when it came to the bar holder and attaching a u bolt to a gas pipe for a lat pull down attachment All it took was some sketches, planning, reaching out to friends, and a single day during the weekend to assemble

Yes you convinced me! When you said you might be watch from 4digit figures cost your mobile! I realised every fckin year i buy a flagship iphone and still think to invest in home gym which improves health!

I love having a home gym It's not much but still gives me a good workout Hated the gym I went to Members not racking the weights back or not even in the proper spot I would spend more time looking for the weights I needed or removing plates off a bar before I could actually start working out Also I felt guilty if I didn't go to the gym because of the money I was wasting on membership fees
Comment from : Jeff W

pablo baluyut
My happy place Well said Good investment provided you use iton a regular basis Might take yers to recoup the initial cost but time and health is priceless😊

Pauly P
Disagree with some of itAgree with most of it brbrThe biggest asset we are given at birth is time My home gym has saved me countless hours driving to the gym Even if the gym is 15 minutes away and you go 4 times a week that is two hours saved a week Multiply that by 52 and we have 104 hours or two and half weeks vacation (in a work sense) to spend as you wish My home gym is someplace I want to go It is my creation and ever evolving It is my work of art that I get to change as I like It is where I go to better my body and and my mind I am proud of my gymbrbrWith that said and where I slightly disagree with Coop is - I dont look at the return on investment on my gym vs the commercial gym I use to go to in terms of $$$ Its time - its freedom, and its not having to deal with some of the commercial gym non sense Make no mistake at $30 a month or $360 a year for my gym (which was chock full of equipment) it is going to take me over 28 years to make up the moneyliterally that long at $30 a month Freedom isnt free brbr Coop said it in another video - your home gym should be a place you want to be My advice to anyone starting a home gym is build in combination - a gym you want with one you can afford Dont use the commercial gym savings as part of the equation Use your freedom as the driving force Maybe you cant afford a Rogue or Sorinex rack - get a HulkFit or some other less expensive rack from Amazon - they work I know I have used them The great thing is whatever you get is yours brbrMy point is this ------- Go into home gym ownership knowing that you are going to spend money that you are not going to recoup in your bank account any time soon Its about building something is yours that allows you more time

Don Quixote
Didn't realize how rich I was Still have my Weider Olympic set from 40yrs ago, not rusted out, with original paint I've upgraded the rest a few times over the years, so yes it's sometimes still necessary And btw, selling the old stuff (always in excellent condition), means I don't shoulder the full cost of the upgrade; though I don't really worry too much about the cost, cause it's mine and I make sure it's what I need & want One word about cost though that I never hear mentioned, be careful not to spend too extravagantly on any one piece, or system The reason is that if you have to sell it at some point it's much more difficult to find the right buyer, so it can take a long time, or you'll be giving it away for cheaper than you'd want or expect to So if you do, make sure it's because it's what you want and you get out of it what you were looking for Have fun 😉

I spent about 700$ on my home gym and I 3 barbells, 2 adjustable dumbells, about 400 pounds of weight, a homemade squat rack( cost 75$ to make), 3 bench presses, one flat bench, an ez bar, rings, a punching bag, a few jump ropes, a homemade pulley sustem( about 50$ to make), some gym flooring and a mat! Dont come and tell me that you cant afford a home gym! Buy used and you will be set!

I’m finally an owner of a home gym! All it took was a pandemic to take away what I was used to I also don’t have a garage and my spare room is on the second floor I was finally able to clean up that spare room and build a platform with plywood and stall mats to ease my fears of damaging the floor Now I have so much more time, and not wanting to drive to the gym is no longer an excuse

Marty Galison
I have a home gym, It includes 2 sets of Fitness Bands, full set, TRX Strap, Stability Ball, Set of Dumbbells from 5-50 lbs in 5 lb increments Getting a Prime Bench, based on your reviews Just ordered it, it will be here in 3 weeks My DumBbells are from Rep Fitness Got those a week ago Lucky enough to order before they sold out again Also bought the Rogue Jammer Pullup Bar brLeft the Lifetime Fitness at the start of the gym closures My membership rate was 7000 per month Now with the measures in place for safe distancing, I'm glad I went with the home gymbrbrI use to workout on my way to work I pass Lifetime Fitness It was the halfway point between home and work Now we are working from home, No need to travel the 25 miles to the gym We were told we are working from home at least until October So going to that Gym now would be a hassle for commutingbrbrBenefits:brbrNot fond of public restrooms, now I can use my own No wait time to use waits You can pretty much do anything with Dumbbells, Bands and TRX

My insurance allows me to use (almost) any global style gym for $30/mo The straw that finally broke the camels back was not being able to use the power rack after driving to 3 gyms (all less than 5 minutes from each other) I went home ordered a Rogue rack, bar, plates, tree, and platform The only regret was I didn’t do it 5 years sooner

Karen Sarinana
I know this video was made a year ago but the question intrigued me haha The reason I don't have a home gym is due to the fact that my parents have no clue that I power/olympic lift As a result of the pandemic, I recently purchased a barbell which has yet to arrive another reason is because I'm a biology major working on her undergrad while trying to apply for a nursing program so I don't have the facilities to just spend 2-10k on equipment in one sitting
Comment from : Karen Sarinana

Vairocana23Revived
I spent just a little over thousand dollars for my home gym that minimalist but very versatile and allows to do everything that can be done in a commercial gym with the exception of pull ups and standard dips

I had started a fitness/health journey a couple of months ago When going to the gym didn’t seem very wise a few weeks ago because of Covid, I went ahead and started working out at home in the backyard (I have a bunch of resistance bands and a jump rope and space to run around) I LOVED it! So I have made up my mind to build my own little home gym in the garage and cancel my gym membership 😁

PowerliftMisc
Would like to build one, money is not an issue can spend like 5 K at least, if the equipment is solid However, there is NOWHERE to build it so far You need to have a house (in a nice area), 1 or 2 door garage etc, which is much more than 5k
Comment from : PowerliftMisc

thatcheeseguy
just got my rogue rml 490c the other month and bought some used weights, i was tired of driving to the gym and it not being open early enough, my wife even scored a nice elliptical machine for $100 I can play my own music, don't have to wait on anybody, squat naked in the rack and much more!!
Comment from : thatcheeseguy

DeAndre Bellot
Coop, watching your video over the past couple of months inspired my wife and I to build our home gym We went with the rouge foldable squat rack and 230 pound of rouge bumper plates We found a Schwinn aerodyne bike and a bob punching dummy on OfferUp for cheap Also purchased our Schwinn spin bike about a year ago, so that went from inside the house to the garage as well Pretty good start to what I know will begin paying off immediately

I just started my home Gym, I have a Squat rack with 300lbs of weights, a boxing bag along with a Stationary bike I also got some BowFlex 5-525lb dumbbells on Offer up for super cheap I'm currently all in about $850 dollars as I have bought some other bits and pieces brMy next "big" purchase will be 3/4" rubber flooring which i think will set me back about $200 here in San Diego brbrbrThis tiny gym has been amazing, I can work out in the mornings before work or release some tension after a tough day at the office It gives me the freedom to work out whenever I want and the time spent getting ready, driving to the gym and waiting on machines has been cut out which saves so much time and money
Comment from : Thomas Dormer

monazir khan
A functional trainer with Smith machine is a great investment with some dumbbells and freeweights U have a home gym of powerrack and vertical gym with free weights and dumbells and bands Home gym has advantages and disadvantages ( less motivating sometimes) The vibe of commercial gym is motivating

The only thing that stops me from having a home gym is that I live in an apartment and do not have a nice 2 car garage and no other spare room unfortunately
Comment from : pineapple90

Molaleni Mabaso
What’s keeping me from having a home gym is that I only have space in my second bedroom but in the second floor So I don’t know if it’s safe to put a power rack on a second floor
Comment from : Molaleni Mabaso

sqd8r
I get why you built a home gym I'm amazed by those gym membership prices I've been fortunate to pay only $40 a mth for mine, and it is a full membership with access to classes etc But that is only because a national gym bought out a local gym's location and honored the local gym prices for life So since 2004 my rates have never gone up and the company has two locations within distance of a good cardio walk or run Still, living in Ottawa, Canada, a home gym is still ideal as there are days too cold to go to the gym (we are the 2nd coldest capital behind Moscow)
