Big fan of the Marmot Tungsten 2p UL (33 lbs) version however I do typically only use it as 1P +1K9 I do believe the floor is not rectangular however Comment from : Michael Van Zandt |
After years using lightweight 2-3 person tents, this year I decided to say the hell with it and got a 4 person MSR Elixir I have no problem with carrying the extra weight (split between my partner and I) for the added comfort and space on trail There’s nothing worse than spending hours or days huddled inside of a tiny 2 person tent with soaking wet gear while it pours rain and blows a gale outside The extra space is worth the weight as far as I’m concerned Comment from : Glen Hoddinott |
MSR seems the way to go there Comment from : Eric Fleming |
Thank you so much for the metric conversions Other channels are almost unwatchable to me because of this, since you'd have to look up the conversions like 20 times in a single video Comment from : Amunak |
I run a 3 person tent for 2 people Comment from : Andrey |
I decided on the X-Mid 2 (non-pro) $300 for the tent Fits 2 wide pads 354 oz / 1005 g (tent only) or 384 oz / 1085 g (tent, stuff sacks, 6 stakes) ($375 with a pair of carbon fiber poles adding additional 66 oz / 186g for both) I haven't got to use it yet but it seems to have a lot going for it for a competitive price Comment from : Eric Bjorgan |
I agree with most of your point of views I recently purchased the Nemo OSMO 2p and having 2nd thoughts of keeping it, and trading it in for the MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2brI'm a little over 6'-2" and my feet and head touch both ends of the Nemo, it's a little bigger than my 1p tent Thank you for your opinion, It helped with my decision Comment from : RedWhite&Blue 78 |
What about REI flash 2 or 3, or REI Half dome SL2+ ??? Esp on sale, looks great on paper? Thoughts? FLASH3 on sale was $300 and SL2+ was $200 great deal? Comment from : Kevin Uher |
Big Agnes lying about their products is nothing newbrBig Agnes makes overpriced garbage Comment from : Minimalist SG |
I love the hubba hubba but I can't afford it, so I have a naturehike mongar which is very similar in size and style, but it's much cheaper (and of course also heavier - those savings have to come from somewhere) I opted for a legit two-person tent in order to be more flexible but would love to also have a lighter, one person tent to chose from for solo trips Well, one day! Comment from : meisjeViv |
I would go with Nemo Comment from : Waldemar Ishibashi |
Nemo But, Helleberg Allak 2 is the one I really want Luxury Comment from : Peter Scott |
Very precise review I like the comparison of tents from the top side-by-side Comment from : Paul Montwill |
I like you, you are almost as critical about door manufactures as I am Your evaluations of these tents along with other critiques on your channel and other channels are some of the most thorough posted My outdoor experience dates back to the early 70's I agree with your pet gripe that one, two, three etc ratings of tents are arbitrary manufacture sales gimmicks The 25" shoulder width is an excellent real life dimension for hiking 30" should also be considered for several applications like canoeing, and kayaking brOne of my pet peeves is folded pole lengths Most seem to be 18 to 20" Most packs are 12 to 14" wide I know packing them vertically is an option But, if they fold to 12" horizontally would be an option (Durston seems to get it His carbon tent poles fold to 12") I've made shortened poles for my Hubba NX and Northface Triarch Yes there are more sections, but not that many And, they pack up any way I want Thanks for letting me vent Comment from : Albert Bray |
I've got the Nemo OSMO Dagger 3-person, and I use it just for myself (or for me and one person if I am dating) It's worth the extra pound for the space and protection, and when the rain has suddenly come lashing down unexpectedly it's my tent that everyone huddles inside because of the space and the superior storm protection! Weight isn't everything! Comment from : PhantomPhoton |
Even a tent that accomodates 2 wide pads isn't enough for 2 persons because we absolutely need to have our backpacks and some gear Inside With Us Inside the tent and since we are several inches above 6ft tall both my Wife and I, there's never room in the feet or headspace either Keeping your backpacks and gear outside is just not safe against rain or theft(by animal or human) brNone of these are considered a 2 person tent, by my standards, good sirbrYou need a square tent, 7ft by 7ft and someone should make it weigh 35lbs c'mon use some fancy materials But hey they just want to profit Comment from : Karl Witkowski |
We love our Nemo Dagger My husband is 6'2" Comment from : Cynthia Forcade |
Which one is better with dogs? I am looking for a 2p backpacking tent for myself and my 2 cattle dogs Comment from : GlitchLife |
I'm replacing my old hubba hubba after 10 years of use I keep shopping but keep coming back to the hubba hubba This video is a helpful comparison Comment from : brennan77 |
The space is just fine, this are not made for 2 guys but for 2 partners Also, if you go ultralight you should go with the pads as well, square pads are not the lightest Comment from : Cristian Baluta |
These three were on my radar for a summer tent, but after owning the previous HubbaHubba, the reduction of mesh and the slightly smaller volume was a turn-off I went with the Mountain Hardwear Aspect2, which is 90x50, a touch over 3lbs and gets the job done comfortably It's a bit pricy, but with some rewards bucks and a well timed discount, it was ok Comment from : Justin Walsh |
Fantastic video man!brI have been looking at a TRUE 2 person tent for a hike this summer to Chicago Basin to hit a few 14ersbrFor high elevation, winds, and rain, which would you go for between the MSR or Nemo?brbrThanks again for the great content! Comment from : Z |
these tents are sooo overpriced :( Comment from : Limitless 1 |
i run a 2 person because i have a dog and it is nice when stuck in the rain Comment from : SWolf |
I’m my opinion, the PERFECT 2p tent would be the new NEMO Dragonfly OSMO 2p (love the SIL-poly blend fabric!), but with the doors and symmetrical floorplan of the Dagger They could make up for the added weight by eliminating some of the solid fabric side panels of the inner tent for more mesh Easy-peasy Not sure why someone isn’t already cashing in on the demand for a symmetrical 50” wide ultralight tent other than MSR Baffling to me honestly Comment from : Katrina Pronath |
Any backpacking tents with a 55" wide floor plan? I have a two person air pad that I got for car camping before I started looking into backpacking Comment from : Stellar Nova |
Its nice But too much chitchat Lost interest and not straight to a clear point Comment from : Marianne Elliot-Hansen |
First off, thank you for your in depth reviews brbrSecondly, thank you for using pounds when explaining weights! I know I a lot of hikers go by the ounce, but my brain doesn't compute that way 😂brbrThese were 3 of the 4 backpacking tents I've been researching for my (very) tall husband and I to use He's 6'4" Taller than your average bearbrbrThank you again 😊 Comment from : Ashley Hanks |
I'm a single father, my son is 8yo, & I just started prepping, but been a survivor my whole life, so I'm fairly certain I can survive through most anything, but you need food & water to do it! brI have a small 500sqft apartment, so idk where to store all my camping gear food, water, supplies, & other odds & ends, it'll look like A HOARDER HOUSE! 😆 brA good video idea would be on what to get kids to stay busy if SHTF, sadly their entertainment is overlooked, & I'm more worried about my son's mental health than mine, I spent 7 years in solitary confinement, so I'm WELL ADJUSTED to being bored, my son with all his tech, not so much!!! 😂brThankfully i don't sell drugs anymore, turned my life around, & untilSHTF, I work with addicts in a rehab setting, & am a tax paying citizen, not all of us ex cons are hopeless or a lost cause💯👍brLove your accent, especially coming from Chicago(live in Reno now) with our boring, nasally sounding accents🤣 Comment from : R3v0lt_e-Vlogs |
Did you actually weight the tent as packed? I have found that some manufacturers are not that accurate in stated weights Comment from : David Strchld |
Copper Spur < 50" --> disqualifiedbrNemo is a full pound heavier than MSR brTiger Wall UL 3 is 60" wide, 3lb, $500 FTWbrHubba Hubba 3 also looks nice, still under 4lb Comment from : Bill B |
Like how Nemo fly connects to crossbar Not sure MSR Big Agnes not that easy Big Agnes better pockets & storage Nemo strong floor but gets frosty edges Like the Nemo triangle thing & extra vestibule holder tiebrbrMany people like the Hubba Hubba Tour too Comment from : LivinLarge |
Moooosejaw is good Comment from : LivinLarge |
The Nemo tent does have extra weight that makes it heavier However, you can always remove the gear tub, replace the stakes with lighter ones, and because it is two person tent you can have your partner or friend carry the poles where you carry the rest of the tent With all three, which I looked pretty heavy on expect for the copper spur, I went with Nemo due to the comfort and room I do plan on doing a month long hike sometime in the future and I can see myself just dealing with the extra pound for the luxury brbrI will know more when I take it out and test it for a small one day hike How knows, maybe I was wrong and the extra pound will do it in for me Comment from : Gifted Fox |
I really like the hubba 2 I have a kelty right now that gets casket like when it's warm out I don't think I can do it againbrI know it's warmer when the temperatures drop, but I need that space Comment from : J Crozier |
I’ve been considering going 3 person or that 2+ rei half dome Split between me and my wife it isn’t that bad Comment from : boredandagitated |
Hmm, and the links for tents go to REI Comment from : John Jones |
Outdoor vitals fortius 2not a free standing tent but only weighs 2 pounds 5 oz Including all guidelines and 8 stakes ,tons of room inside and fits 2 25" pads for $340 Comment from : Dale Hilliard |

Hi all! Im looking for a 2 person tent (for 1 person :P) for hot weather - desert, 40C (100F) daytime and 10C (F) climate brLooking for something that can be keept relatively cool during the daybrbrI'm not sure what characteristics (material - double wall?) I should be looking for brMost youtube content tends to be by/for audiences who are really into backpacking (ultralight) - but I'm not trekking brAnd most tent reviews focus on performance in cold conditions - but I'm looking for the opposite brbrany advice? Comment from : Stephan |
Nice video comparison I have the Nemo and love it but I'm 6'6" and like the extra length They are all great tents but the comfort features of the Nemo stood out more to me and weight wasn't a huge concern Love your videos and content! Comment from : Ron Wolfe |
ok my MSR broke in the SNOW! Im trekking pole tents only Comment from : BaaSicStuff |
all 3 are way too expensive man 500 dollars for a tent? are you mad?! I wouldnt pay more than 150 EVER! This is pure fraud Like some peeps paying 300 or 400 dollars for a full tang fixed blade Excuse me, are you serious?! They are suckers You can get a full tang fixed blade for 100 and it will perform EXACTLY the same if not better This is pure scam and you just pay brands name Nothing more Comment from : Ηλιας Αγγ |
Oh! So they now have added that small piece to on top of the zipper to have more air flow on the door on hubba hubbabrI have older version that does not have that and I have had to make a similar piece out of wood and risking to break my zipper while using it Comment from : Redi Rok |
MSR weather resistance is NOT good right now these tents are wetting out the X-Mid Pro (or X-Mid is awesome) I personally still love my Hilleberg and Fjällräven badass tents, but they are heavy and meant for serious weather, over kill for most I just picked up a X-Mid, waiting for it :)brbrI also LOVE Sierra Designs for real! I have really been wanting to try something from Tarptent and HMG (like the new Unbound 2p) The Zpacks Duplex needs zippers on the fly and in really I love freestanding tents more they just work anywhere :) Comment from : TheTrailDancer |
I'm sorry but I can't trust someone pushing a product they've been paid to push Comment from : tin soldier |

Big agness copper hvul2 bikepack FOR THE WIN!! Comment from : tyson nold |
@mylifeoutdoors is MSR making any spare parts, especially the poles, easily available? During a bike trip to Portugal we snapped a pole and MSR just don't have any information available on what kind of pole you might need or where it just sucked We were happy to be able to repair it using a aluminum can and zip ties Comment from : Pedro P |
MSR free lite at under 2 lbs is a solid 2 person equal end tent Lightest 2 person tent under 2 lbs, living in CA not an issue for me I dont like the dark color, picked up a lighter tent and I like all the natural light, the dark red is depressing feeling Comment from : BaaSicStuff |
Why on earth would you loose the cross beam and not the other poles? 🤣 Makes no sense at all If you're that kind of a careless person, maybe you shouldn't be out camping - you might loose your kitchen 🤣🤣 Comment from : bidufree |
Big Agnes Tiger Wall 3 personbr2lb 10oz br60” minimum floor spacebrDONE Comment from : Some stuff I thought you might like |
Thanks for posting I used the code and was able to purchase a Marmot Catalyst 2person at an extremely low price (40) off Looking forward to this Comment from : The Intentional Space |
No way the Nemo dagger fits 2x25inch pads without deflating it or crush the sidewalls Definitely does not fit like a glove is my point Comment from : Jason Bui |
Bravo! Comment from : Lea |
Hubba hubba Nice TenTS Comment from : Ravi Teja |
They say "TWO is ONE and ONE is NONE" Well when it comes to tent capacity, 3 is 2 That's why I roll with a Triplex if I'm not tarping👫 Comment from : CSN |
Steven I think you should consider reviewing the Tarptent Double Rainbow DW It has the same floor space and head room as the Hubba Hubba, but is $100 cheaper (w/aluminum ridge pole) and is less weight Plus it can be pitched free-standing with trekking poles or with just stakes and the option to pitch fly first or interior first For some reason Tarptent gets lost in many tent reviews Comment from : Chris Moses |
Thx for the best content on YouTube amongst backpacking matters! Comment from : Jami Crawford |
Excellent work! Comment from : Backcountry Pilgrim |
Best tent review video yet Really got me thinking of certain tents “bells and whistles” and is it just something to just sell a tent versus actuality needing/wanting it on my next adventure! Comment from : Michael Toloczko |
I'm really enjoying your channel and the gear reviews I think instead of announcing the best tent, you should announce the best tent that fits you and your needs But I love the way you cover the pros and cons of each I give your reviews a 10 for 10 score Comment from : Darron Fletcher |
If you want to do the hubabuba go with a 4 person Comment from : ReefMimic |
Great post my friend I appreciate all the information you are sharing here 🏃♂️ Comment from : Gef Ginn |
And here I am lugging around a 7lb tent, because when I decided to get into backpacking it was what I already had & I was too povvo to buy new equipment Comment from : Mystery LovesCompany |
so does that mean that 5 inches is big? Comment from : watchtower |
Just got a few Amazon clones of the lighter better designed 2 person tents And let me tell u it’s not enough for me and my fiancé, I’m 6 foot and she’s 5”10’ Not that a 2p tent can’t support us if we were hardcore but we’re not I need more room to spread out, so we went with a 4 person and it’s only a bit heavier and wow are we happier We split the tent up I Cary the tent and poles and she carries the cover and stakes We don’t use the bag we just stuff it in there to fill room I deadlift, squat , bench press and chin ups so I think I can carry more weight than average person my size and I feel the posterior chain is so important for backpackers/hikers I encourage any backpacker/hiker to try and do deadlifts for a few months U will feel as if you have more horsepower and torque in the legs and back, it’s incredible Comment from : BushidoKi |
Msr and sea to summit are my favorite brands It's rare to excel in one piece of gear but these companies have the best gear in multiple fields And that's just ridiculous Comment from : Ktown C |
Secret option #4 for me! Comment from : Jon Sweet |
Back in the early 70's ( yea, I dating myself ); a light weight 2 person backpacking tent weighed about 10 pounds Comment from : Greg Wheat |
Lol 500 bucks for a 2 person tent lol GTFO Comment from : RedShipsofSpainAgain |
Great review I have the Copper Spur 1p and love it But have been considering the 2p However I do not like the new vestibule design at all I know it can be used conventionally but I think it adds more complexity than is necessary I will have to look at the MSR more closely Thanks for the insight Comment from : Mike T |
