@zantetsu9777
I have 3 years of experience in IT and a Degree in Info Tech, but havent been able to find anything for 1 year Feeling pretty dejected tbh
Comment from : @zantetsu9777

@lafo1639
the government has to enforce entry level positions availability at every company
Comment from : @lafo1639

@yep9817
Media isnt overblowing it, they are unironically being honestbrbrMost things that has been expected from entry level sw engineers in backend and frontend jobs till last year, can easily be done via AI apps rnbrbrBut that is just the tip of the iceberg, in next decade, AI will be able to professionally design software apps, mechanical designs and electronic circuits better than any engineer
Comment from : @yep9817

@seananderson7087
While it is true that we are down from last yearbrWe are also still higher than we've ever been since before 2021 as well
Comment from : @seananderson7087

@sosiimartinez2268

Comment from : @sosiimartinez2268

@Bioniclema90
I don't need to be in echo chambers to feel bad about my (lack of a) future as a software developer I already knew that from my experience in failing to get an entry level position and even an internship I regret going into software development The past 35 years has been a complete waste of my life so far Employers can get f'ed
Comment from : @Bioniclema90

@Lawtonfl
This is not a software engineering problem The same thing is happening across all engineering jobs Entry level jobs are impossible to find
Comment from : @Lawtonfl

@johnhirschv5173
Thanks
Comment from : @johnhirschv5173

@Otinashi
"Get into tech" they said "You'll be drowning in job offers" I feel like I was gaslit into thinking I could be competitive in an industry I can't even survive in
Comment from : @Otinashi

@kpro228
I completed my second degree in June 2023 and switched my career to IT But I have not been able to find my first job in this field yet The market is very competitive at the moment :(
Comment from : @kpro228

@JKLLS
There's too many of you
Comment from : @JKLLS

@53strat55
I'm guessing you are only talking about the US COmpanies can lay of people out of the blue in the US
Comment from : @53strat55

@homeoffice3524
It's probably depends of country to In UK is plenty of volunteer junior positions with minimum 7 year's experience and junior paid positions with req like some senior programmer 😂 I give up already last year Can't care less now I start making my own web applications and games and working just for myself and projects Some are selling some don't but at least everything is based on me and no one give me crap
Comment from : @homeoffice3524

@GypsyPunk
Everyone in my IT department just got abruptly fired Not because they didnt need our positions filled anymore but because they outsourced our jobs to India Imagine doing this to your fellow countrymen Honestly should be illegal, considered treason really
Comment from : @GypsyPunk

@modernwhitekid
Trump made jobs for us 💯
Comment from : @modernwhitekid

@Flaneur27
I like this guy seems genuine
Comment from : @Flaneur27

@ramtin-s8722
I really needed this video
Comment from : @ramtin-s8722

@dingusfartacus9624
some junior engineers are so entitled once landing the job, it hurts to watch them
Comment from : @dingusfartacus9624

@akemihomura6396
Ah weird, here in Japan you get a job at the beginning of the year you are going to graduate, is not a full time job until you graduate and you have it guaranteed for 5 years or something unless you quit or other reasons
Comment from : @akemihomura6396

@chengalvalavenkata2401
Much harder but not hopeless, though it feels that way
Comment from : @chengalvalavenkata2401

@WickyBoi7
I dont have a college degree, am i kascrewed?
Comment from : @WickyBoi7

@strathound
A lot of the new hires believe that they can get by doing 10hrs / week of work, and goof off the other 30 Employers are nervous about hiring anyone who doesn't have a proven track record at this point You can thank all those online influencers who promote this kind of behavior
Comment from : @strathound

@biswa6974
7 years of experience in software engineering, can't even get an interview scheduled I already lost my job, and the job market is as cold as ice I am ready to join as a fresher if the pay is good enough
Comment from : @biswa6974

@ghaleon7
Honestly this video came at a good time on my feed I'm trying to get out of my retail job and was looking at starting a course for Front End Web Development but my roommate just goes on about how bad the market is, how he's not getting a raise and trying to break in as a junior developer right now is next to impossible It's been disheartening since I hate the job I'm in and liked the little coding I've done through the course, just to be told how pointless it is right now to even try and learn this stuff Thanks for letting us know it's not all doom and gloom, even for those of us who are new or have yet to start
Comment from : @ghaleon7

@oumegahtronh7756
it's who you know not what you know that can land you the job, you can even be POTUS if you have the connections, once on the job you start to learn what to know about the job
Comment from : @oumegahtronh7756

@huckfin1598
LEARN TO WELD
Comment from : @huckfin1598

@manw3bttcks
The way to break into the software jobs for me was to get a first job that wasn't a Software job I got an engineering job that had software as a component of it I went into software after that
Comment from : @manw3bttcks

@youtubedeletestheoppositio8188
Bidenomics! Tech isn’t the only field suffering
Comment from : @youtubedeletestheoppositio8188

@DanielleA2023
Once again People suffer because of incompetent greedy executives in Corporations
Comment from : @DanielleA2023

@loudelement
Well, honestly, who'd want to hire a junior level software engineer mechanically trained just to crack big tech interviews, but can't deliver real results at work, yet expects a six-figure salary and perks?
Comment from : @loudelement

@xiphoid2011
Most things in the economy follows the "reversion to the mean", meaning while hype and bubbles can temporarily change the market up or down, but over time tne market tends to trend back towards average Every job segment goes through this, oil jobs due to fracking is a recent example, tech is just the latest example Young people might not realize this yet, but you will as you get older
Comment from : @xiphoid2011

@TarvosObrian
And always remember: This is a video with a blatant US focus If you are not in the US, it probably doesn't apply that much to you The US pays software people a TON of money in global comparison, especially in the top companies Naturally, there is a lot competition
Comment from : @TarvosObrian

@zuzanna2837
Thanks a lot for this video <3
Comment from : @zuzanna2837

@uicornerwithJ
Some major shift is happening in software engineering Lot of candidates for 1 job, companies are also lowering salaries I think because of this "effect"
Comment from : @uicornerwithJ

@MattAero
I think CS graduates (especially in CA, WA, Austin-TX, NY) are mostly all aiming for the top tech companies But there are still a lot of companies looking for junior engineers There are even companies outside of the tech industry looking for engineers These companies just don’t pay as well
Comment from : @MattAero

@miguelviloria4596
the struggle is real
Comment from : @miguelviloria4596

@OnigoroshiZero
2024 will be the start of the end for developers (and almost every other job that does not require interaction with the physical world) There is not going to be a growth in this area, it will start shrinking substantially until there is nothing within 2-3 years because of AGIbrEven the most skilled and experienced developers will not be able to compete with AGI, and no one is going to pay a human to do worse work, in more time, with more money
Comment from : @OnigoroshiZero

@MA-rf6sg
May the best man win :D
Comment from : @MA-rf6sg

@arrowrod
Elon Musk bought Twitter Elon Musk is a genius programmer Elon got rid of 80 of the programming staff Other companies noticedbrI spent 30 years as a programmer Somehow I did most of the work in any organization I worked in My reward? The do nothings constantly accused me of not doing the work Finally, I figured out that I could dp their work, which was mostly trivial, for project success
Comment from : @arrowrod

@someduudee
Well come to europe, enough jobs for programmers and engineers here xD
Comment from : @someduudee

@StevXtreme
Mid-level corpo manager here I work in Ops and I'm frankly negatively impressed by the situation described in the vid My corporation could very well do with doubling its SWE headcount, particularly by adding juniors (even the respective tech operations managers told me that) We have so many small internal tools and processes that need work / overhaul and maintenance that I just simply don't understand why we're not choosing to lower "grunt" headcount in favor of SWEs who could handle the long queue of pending items we have for our various tech teams Plenty of space for automation and internal tool refinement that would hugely reduce HC requirement for repetitive and long tasksbrbrNow, it might be above my pay grade, but if previous experience is anything to go by, it's probably upper leadership who doesn't really understand how things work and are prioritizing dumb stuff (like quarterly financials for stockholder consumption) instead of what's actually needed (more and better software, DBs, automation rules, etc which are longer term investments) At this point in time, software is what leads the world and will continue to do so as long as we have the mechanisms to work with large amounts of databrbrSimilarly to the "back to office" trend, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the cross-company top brass communicates with each other to sustain their own inane ideas about what the direction of their corporations should be
Comment from : @StevXtreme

@gregtroufas8066
So he basically said 1Ignore reality no matter how bad it is because it will unemotive you 2Talk only to people that agree with you which will stagnate your perceptions Thanks buddy keep preaching ignorance because you know what it is a bliss!!!
Comment from : @gregtroufas8066

@brandoncomer6492
According to the government only 22 of tech workers are "unemployed", which is clearly bullshit It took me 4 months to get 2 legitimate interviews and I have 8 years of experience When I was looking for a job back in 2018 I had 3 interviews in the first week brbrMakes you wonder about all the other metrics being reported in regards to jobs and the economy
Comment from : @brandoncomer6492

@nuderedfinger
Fantastic points! The hyped up perspective we get online is so unhealthy I don't watch the news anymore except for tech industry news, because I'm trying to get a job So, it's a big source of anxiety for me I think I need to tune out, and just keep my nose to the grindstone
Comment from : @nuderedfinger

@cbbcbb6803
Can you create a company and simply hire yourself as an entry-level employee? Would that be ethical or legal or what? What if your family has a business and Cam hire you? brKeep in mind that the job market goes up and it goes down, sort of like the economybrWhen the markets are down, and if you have time on your hands, that may be a good time to hone your skills or add new skill to your skill set or even develop an entirely new set of skills Good luck, everyone!
Comment from : @cbbcbb6803

@TravisBerthelot
People with less than 5 years professional experience will almost always have a hard time getting work As someone with more than 5 years the current wages to prices is really poor So many of the experienced people are not even in the market for the low wages most companies want to pay So this is not just a low experience issue This is what happens during stagflation Until the government addresses exponential government expansion the economy will get worse
Comment from : @TravisBerthelot

@jaspercaelan4998
Lol so glad I left when I did!
Comment from : @jaspercaelan4998

@Eddy-ly2ml
i got like 1/6th of market rate here in NYC as a contractor but after that its been more than a year since ive gotten something real

@mrmiagi6052
I am trying to land an entry level front end dev job and out of all the jobs I’ve applied for I only got one interview Recently made a new portfolio Thinking I need a recruiter Also all of the entry level listings want tons of education and experience !!!

Comment from : @manonamission2000

@ooogabooga5111
Nah tech is dead, the rate of development is in the hardware Its hard to scale down hardware anymore and thats where the software also limits itself Thats why there is layoffs Its very simple The job markect doesn't require useless people who can only break things IT is very much dead for people "just trying to get a job" and is for how it should be "I'm passionate about IT" people
Comment from : @ooogabooga5111

@ollydix
It's cause of AI productivity, it's only going to get worse Do something physical
Comment from : @ollydix

@reiniergarcia
We can not compete against millions of senior level programmers from India, who work for freaking peanuts I have being unemployed for quite some time Partially enjoyed for years but lately away from the software industry for more than a year It’s destroying my soul I am a 43yo mid level full stack web developer and a junior mobile developer as well I decided to change of industry I even took a course as Pharmacy technician to at least have something that can not be outsourced Being in class is insufferable but seems to be lots of jobs as Pharm tech I hate myself I hate my uniform I hate everything except programming I don’t want to live this way
Comment from : @reiniergarcia

@CyberJedi1
They said "study IT and it will be easy to find a job, and it pays really well too!" oh dear, that was probably 5-10 years ago Today, you get fresh out of college and you can't find shit, every entry position you have to know 10 different programming languages and whatnot, and still have experience, it's a complete disaster Many people are just changing carrers at this point, it's better get into cooking school
Comment from : @CyberJedi1

@martacus
My other classmates and I got a software job straight out of college How does the job market in Europe compare to America? There's no struggle where I live to get a software job
Comment from : @martacus

Comment from : @millimayhem90s

@TalesOfPeople
So you quit the industry 2 months after posting this video Seems like you're not qualified to be giving advice
Comment from : @TalesOfPeople

@samsmusichub
Thanks for the encouragement
Comment from : @samsmusichub

@j_oleksa
That’s great to hear Software engineers are greatly over rated DRs work 15 hour days, dealing with high areas and infection risks and endure 12 year of low pay training That’s the realist for tech and it’s fair !!
Comment from : @j_oleksa

@Jgleason23
A big problem for computer scientists is they don’t necessarily come off as real people persons or they have problems with their behavior, social skills, khygiene, etc A big part of a software engineers job isn’t coding It’s documentation, collaboration, etc and most nerds are very good at those topics This can be seen at the university level the most
Comment from : @Jgleason23

@nathantee5768
Looking into smaller companies was honestly the best move i made applying for jobs I landed more interviews and competing offers Hopefully working these smaller companies with some experience will allow to apply to these bigger companies
Comment from : @nathantee5768

@Gio-m
For fellow SEs, don’t lose hope I think companies are extremely picky at the moment only because they want high-experience engineers to plug in the gaps left from the layoffs Meaning finishing those critical points of a project or to at least get them through a finish linebrbrAlso I’m sure these companies only want to make their final quarterly earnings statements look really good to their investors Which means having less people in payroll but still having good efficiency towards the end of the year brbrI really do think by next year they’re going to ramp up hiring again, because they’ll need many engineers, especially those with less experience ( no insane salaries to give) It won’t be sustainable for them to rely only on High Experience engineers for an entire year and the foreseeable future brbrI’ve only worked in 2 large companies so far, but I’ve managed to see how these guys operate After huge layoffs they tend to work with who they have remaining for a bit while they get a highly experienced engineer onboard to help manage the load Once they got them, they than usually start looking for low-salary employees for knowledge transfer (from pre-existing engineers & high level new hires) It’s more cost-efficient to hire low-salary employees for these companies Also they’ll be much more open to hiring people during the beginning of the year rather than the end since the pressure of meeting EOY marks is no longer there
Comment from : @Gio-m

@fugu4163
Seems like there are a tech bubble that are just about to burstbrIt will be a tough ride for sure
Comment from : @fugu4163

@Ayoutubeaccount3

Comment from : @Ayoutubeaccount3

@nickp978
It's rough out there I've been looking since March for a new position and have 10 years of relevant experience
Comment from : @nickp978

@WifeWantsAWizard
People Facebook just released Llama 2's code writer, Code Llama There is no such thing as "entry level coder" anymore It's over AI will just make all corporate software now Make your own indie apps or find something better to do with yourselvesbr(5:05) The US government, whose statistics you are pointing to there, are completely oblivious to the seismic disruption that's coming down the pike due to chatbots and AI in general
Comment from : @WifeWantsAWizard

@hristomir-zw6bg
I am first time watcher to your channel And this video was amazing You really put a lot of love and care making this video
Comment from : @hristomir-zw6bg

@derekilikered
Great video! Only note is that the point you made about survivorship bias is actually reverse survivorship bias, where the ones who don't get offers are posting online

@htjmartin
Companies are cutting costs, big ones starts cutting the perks & tools they use, smaller ones simply reduce head counts
Comment from : @htjmartin

@hond4h34d
Does every sentence have to be a jump cut?
Comment from : @hond4h34d

@paulkiragu8120
I think the issue is not tech it self but rather the current recession
Comment from : @paulkiragu8120

@ddmozz
Lol, this "industry" is complete shit I knew it back when I started working in 2014, at the top of the tech job hype I hate it with all of my soul It's so fluctuating and cringy I love programming and entrepreneurship though, always did
Comment from : @ddmozz

@romanfromukr
The bubble of capitalism could not inflate foreverbrIt's time to burstbrFor those who like consumer life, this is badbrFor those who are already sick of the consumer society, this is okay
Comment from : @romanfromukr

Interesting, that even biotech is having layoffs too
Comment from : @MrDarthvis

@user-ik1ux8dt8x
Man I have no problem, not being a software engineer I dropped out of college because my major was involved with crypto currency People stealing information It's better to avoid an identity crisis
Comment from : @user-ik1ux8dt8x

@VictorMartinez-zf6dt
My advice is for people in college to get internships as many as possible
Comment from : @VictorMartinez-zf6dt

@thoughtcrimetechno
beliminates entry jobs/b brAlso, companies: Why isn't new talent coming in?
Comment from : @thoughtcrimetechno

@lalala-lt8fe
This also means seniors get stuck in their careers Recruiters have actually been more rabid towards senior developers like myself this year I always ask them if they are hiring juniors and they always say no, to which I say I'm not interested They want me to do all the work I would do as a senior, band/b all the work I would have delegated to mid-levels and juniors It's past time for me to take the next step to architect but I can't because there is no one to delegate work to if nobody is hiring juniors We've got enterprise architects who are going to retire soon and nobody will be able to replace them because the entire career path is stuck
Comment from : @lalala-lt8fe
