There are a lot of gears, I don't change them too much, but I do like having them instead of just 1 or 3 options like a cruiser would offer I've ridden this bike to work ( 7 miles one way) and it was a great ride The seat is comfortable too I would highly recommend this bike if you want a cute, sophisticated bike that can ride well too

Good vid and good info But I disagree with the statement that "both cable, and hydraulic disc breaks offer enough stopping power" I am only a novice biker but I can't agree with that statement made I have had 2 bikes with cable operated disc brakes and they were both very poor in use, and offered not much stopping power compared to my latest bike with hydraulic disc breaks On my latest bike with hydraulics I can lock up the wheels if needed (could not do this with cable operated discs) In my view hydraulic discs are a bare minimum on most bikes, as they have much more stopping power better feel are more progressive also have a faster action and take less effort I have a yellow/silver 2017 Boardman hybrid comp It's a real nice bike a good ride and good for the money It has lots of upgrades on it now too I have not ridden on it much though but for commuting it's a great bike with fixed forks for me its perfect With the upgrades and clothing/accessories I bought for the bike i have around £800 invested now The bike only cost me £375 in the sale So it just goes to show how much more money you may need to spend for the extra kit

"Orientated" is not a word Also, this video is upselling for no reason A typical commuter using a Road/MTB Hybrid categorically do not need and are wasting money buying a bike with disc brakes Side caliper w/rubber brake shoes are plenty efficient and reliable If you're commuting you probably don't need to spend more than 500 bucks for a fantastic bike that will serve your needs

I just purchase an end of year 2016 Specialize Sirrus Elite Disc for about 30 off list price I like the ride better than my mountain bike I mainly ride road surface although my mountain bike did have a suspension lockout Plus the Sirrus is about 7 lbs lighter (18 gear vs 27 on my mountain bike)

learn how to assemble/fix your own bike & you'll save money,most bikes shops charge an hourly rate & it soon adds up,the bonus is you'll have money to spend on accessories/improvements that u may need,there's heaps of info on bike repair here on u tube & other places on the net too :)

you guys need to stop promoting disk brakes I say this because they are only a option and not THE OPTION!!!, they are no match to regular v brakes, now yes I agree that the braking in the disk brakes is better, yet the other perks that come with them, need to be considered as well and not act as if one was myopic, with tunnel vision

What type of hybrid is the Giant Cypress is that road or mtb orientated? It came with 700 x 38c tires multisurface apparently though they dont do good in mud I ride it mostly on pavement but I do take it bush bashing on some tracks and gravel paths as long as its dry or Im stuffed I wouldnt mind getting a flat bar road bike but i ride some badly made pavement thats rough on bike paths and gravel dirt tracks, so I might be limited I bought some Vittoria Randonneurs for my Cypress theyre grippy on the road but a bit slow I swapped them for my old 700 x 38s for the cushyness and grippier tread Good video

Road style hybrid is cyclocross I have mtb styled hybrid myself (fixed fork tho) & i am happy for sure - although with a need for speed & smooth roads, you will end up with a road bike, its inevitable Ideal frame would have wireing inside the frame imo (but that costs waaaaaaaay too much)

Good video, but how are toe clips dangerous? Are you referring to them being hazardous to new riders? I've been running a mix of toe clips/straps and Shimano clipless MTB pedals on my fixed gear for two years and never found the clips/straps dangerous

In my experience, most people buying a commuter bikes are after a bike in the mid to low price range In this range, I would advice against suspension forks, as they are pretty much nothing more than added weight, with minimum actual suspension abilities If you're out to buy a hybrid commuter and are on a limited budget, I'd say save the few bucks on the suspension fork Rather have a model with a carbon fibre fork, and look out for carbon fibre handlebars on sale as they too absorb some vibration Comfortable grips will also help All in all, this will give you a lighter, easier to ride bike than having to deal with the heavier low-end suspension forksbrbrAnd remember: Quick release skewers and quick release seat post clamps are a no-no on commuters preferrably use those that comes with their own special tool This way, should you be unlucky and have a puncture a new inner tube and this tool fits easily in a spare compartment of your commuter bag of choice
