Geeze, I never have money in my checking except on pay day And a savings account is purely for the mentally challenged 1 Use a COSTCO type card that gives you 4-1 back 2 ALWAYS pay it off monthly 3 If you have a mild emergence, get a ZERO interest C/C and make sure you pay it off in the 18 month grace period 4 If you own a home, keep a HELOC ((5 or less interest) in your back pocket for real emergencies like being out of work or a blown transmission 5 Put your extra money in a dividend paying stock (like CLM) pays very well and you can get your money out in two days as needed BUT---unlike Dave Ramsey--NEVER, NEVER, NEVER have 9 months of emergency money in a savings account Instead, use the HELOC and pay only $8 per two thousand per month until you get back on you feet (YOU lose more than 3, now 10 due to inflation letting the savings (???) idle
