I don’t see either option as a “wrong choice” My wife’s gold is 100 coins, while mine is 100 in 1-oz bars (exception is a 1/4 oz Singaporean coin) Bars were the best choice for me because they yielded the most gold at lowest premium and overall cost, and I’m holding them for the very long term

In my state, we pay sales tax on coinage but not bullion So a 1 oz coin costs me (right now) about $150 more than a 1 oz bar I have not bought any bars for the reasons outlined here, but the extra 75 on coins is a painful pill to swallow

I have a sigma scanner, seems very reliable for bars up to 1 ounce, the only good fakes are tungsten filled and not easily faked in smaller bars but larger bars are definitely harder to detect counterfeit products br💪😎👍🇺🇸💰🙏

Thanks for the advise and opinions I do have a bunch of smaller gold bars and 10 gram bars that got killer deals on basically at spot price and i know they are legit cause i bought them from legit dealers Im not a fan of gold bars as much as coins but i guess my plan was to later on trade them all in on larger 1 ounce coins or something as it is hard for me to come up with the cash for full 1 ounce coins all at once

I think gold bars are much more difficult to verify I just watched a video where the Sigma (basic) read a gold bar as 100 dead center legit and the XRF machine showed NO gold content at all That's scary I've had a few 1 oz gold bars over the years but dumped them all when the price was right Probably still have a few 5g bars somewhere The pre-33 fakes are pretty good nowadays Even the doggone slab holders are fake like you say I'm with you though - not a fan of gold bars They are lower than last on my list

Really unless a bar has some historical value to it (like a bar from the gold rush) I will just stick to coins as well There is a whole sub-set of collecting vintage bars (especially silver) that is fun too, but I wouldn’t stake my savings on them

One nice bar is the Britannia with the Lady Britannia soldier on the front That is a very winning design whether in 5gram gold bar or 10oz silver bar (I bought the 5 gram gold for around $300) I have never tried to offer one to an LCD but I'd be surprised if they weren't very interested as those gold bars are stunning to look at not at all boring like say the Heraeus or Valcambi And the price is around the same Perhaps you've seen them already in the grey assay with 'The Royal Mint' at the top

Generally speaking I think coins are the better option I'd love a big cast bar but it doesn't make sense when you do the math and consider the pain at the other end (selling being more difficult and getting a worse price than equivalent coins) I did buy a bar recently though not something I'll make a habit of

I have found most all dealers in America will much prefer buying gold coins from customers rather than bars I stick with Eagles, Buffaloes and Maple Leaf coins for the most part

Lol The Apmex app was so slow at 8 am Couldn't even load the Maple 🍁 leaf at spot After 15 minutes of trying to use their app I went to SD Bullion and bought the Sovereign at 1/2 off premium Do you think Cyber Monday at Apmex? I wish they would just run a special every hour so perhaps the traffic wouldn't crash the site if it staggers through the day on at spot items

I have some gold bars, I only buy my gold from reputable bullion dealers But bars actually are not that much cheaper than coins I have way more coins than bars because of this A generic 1 ounce gold maple is often at par with the bars I like the Perth mint 1 ounce bars they are $100 cheaper than coins They are short and kind of look like a gold nugget Thanks

Government minted coins is my preference During covid era I was stuck in a middle East Country for 18 months could not get home or more truthfully could not get back in if I left This Country sells Pamp Suisse bars by a regulated government agency with the serial number registered to my ID Everything was closed nothing to spend my surplus tax free money on, so for 18 months I bought the bars I don't like them I will not buy anymore and hopefully in 20 years time I can sell them to fund part of my retirement and flip the middle finger to Covid I will never buy another bar and the money I spent on bars was what I would have spent socialising etc During the covid lock down Whatever I get in the future is unexpected savings from the past with these bars I would always buy coins over bars all things being equal

My local coin store deals in silver, gold coins and bars He has an XRF, no problem analyzing bars He says the most fakes he sees coming in the store are fake American Silver Eagles People thought they got a great deal online and got burned, did not buy from the major well known dealers I have a mix of gold coins and bars, like them all

I do buy 1oz gold bars specially the PAMP suisse lady fortunas and lately the British Britannia gold bars I do buy my gold from reputable online dealers and I'm not interested to sell my gold anytime soon However, I did invested in a sigma verifier machine for a peace of mind Yes, the machine was not cheap, but I have bought a great deal of PM in the last 6 months that I could not afford not getting a verifier machine Another great videothanks
