HONG KONG IS CHINA! Why would any foreigner go to China when China has threatened EVERY FOREIGNER THAT THEY CAN BE ARRESTED FOR "SPYING” EVEN GOING ON A CRUISE AND VISITING A CHINESE PORT CAN LEAD TO A FOREIGNER BEING ARRESTED IN A PORT AND SENT TO PRISON! Really, who would want to steal any TOFU INFORMATION OF ANY KIND FROM CHINA! Comment from : O g |

No more hongkong, it is now a kangkong Comment from : Arta Misa |
There is no point to argue what cities will end up in what shape years down the road I used to like LA SF and NY before but now what do they look like and how they compare the other big cities? Time will tell which city will perform better and don't judge by a few up and downs Comment from : L tsai |
Hongkong people mostly are aloof, and think highly albeit blindly that they have expertise in democracy and ability to run not only HK, but China itself The reality is they cant even run their small special administrative region properly Comment from : Shen Cheang Low |
Hong Kong is getting a lot better, no more violent demonstrations orchestrated by treacherous people who took orders from the west(USA and uk) to stir trouble with an attempt to overthrow the government Comment from : Oberst leutnant |
Very good video, thank you for sharing!!! Comment from : Ian Slade |
Partly truth, but most of the documentary is BS, the ones he interviewed are mostly western oriented Hong Konger The population actually rises after 100,000 plus legged However, there are many silently returning to Hong Kong without making noises This dialogue only interviews those hard headed Comment from : Willie Ho |
HK is a thriving city It has the best transportation system in the world and never stop improving It is amazing how HK has developed and come to this point Nothing can stop HK from emerging into a better city People moved out to avoid the turmoil but many will come back when they see how HK compared to other cities, just like before 1997 Comment from : L tsai |

We Japanese don't want people like you either Sure we have our own problems but you always come here to find something to nitpick even the tiniest things because you can't find anything bad to say so bye bye No sympathy for you since it was the ultimately the western foundation that brought down the Qing dynasty Comment from : The Last Defender of Camelot |

personally, the worst thing about Hong Kong are young people speaking chinglish and pretending to be ABC and young people without an ounce of manners and decent etiquette 😂 Lol, try dllm in America and get your tiny asian ass whooped for insulting someone’s mom Young people here use curse words too casually, they sound worse than the uneducated Comment from : Carrie M |

Stop spreading western propaganda You are free to burn down your own city in the west but stop destroying HK brHK is full of western spies, thats why the west keeps paying those rebels to keep HK free from subversion law being enacted under pretext on democracy and liberty brLet those rebels go to the west and stay there They will realise that the grass is not as green as they imagine And also good luck with all bigotry they will face in UK and US Comment from : Herry So |
iDefinitely seen and sounds to be of dhotis essence They are simply afraid that a lot more Hong Kong chinese are moving towards UK for not just to settle down but also to overtake and clutch down all fake pride and prestige of dhotis that were achieved cheatingly at UK/ibr😆🤪🤣🤮😝 Comment from : YaaP GOG |

I am 80 years of age and came to HK 60 years ago I have seen riots in 1967 and riots in 2019 I have seen several property busts and booms I have seen businesses move in and out I have seen mass migrationinto HK from both China, '60' & '70's and Vietnam, late '70's & early '80's, and I have seen mass migration out on HK in the '60s, '90's and now 2020's I have seen and experienced a lot in HK It seems only people under 30 years of age were interviewed for this video, be they locals or expats, which means they have not experienced colonial HK nor just pre/post '97 HK So views expressed are all formed from a relatively short term experience of HK This does mean to say they are wrong, but that Time provides a filter which ensures short term impressions can be re-visited, re-assessed and if necessary explained in a somewhat different light So please interview older generations and get a broader viewpoint Comment from : Morgan Majurey |
Forget about losing free speech, it's too small and crowded, and super hot/humid during summer Why would you NOT want to move to another country that has more space with better weather? Comment from : Wang Mandoo |
Things change Just as, much of Europe is forever changed demographically and culturally with total open borders and mass immigrations Some cities in Europe are essentially no longer European, with many more to follow I no longer visit such cities in Europe :( Comment from : Raul Selva |
7:00 The official language of Hong Kong isn't Cantonese It's Chinese and English It is true most locals speak Cantonese as their mother tongue, and Cantonese is the predominant language in Hong Kong However, it is simply wrong to day Cantonese is the official language of Hong Kong Comment from : klhkdkk |
China is really incapable of doing anything at the moment just leave the Hong Kong people and Taiwan people alone and the !countries! Will succeed otherwise whole china will fail if they want them both to the dictator’s county Comment from : Michplay |

Good riddance! Comment from : Joseph Tan |
One of my main reasons why I hate the mainland government is because they’re also removing Cantonese from all of Guang Dong EVEN Hong Kong, this really breaks my heart, as mainland doesn’t care about our language, so disappointing, I’ve also got a friend he’s moving to New Zealand, and out of my 10 Chinese friends, 6 of them are from Hong Kong, 2 from Taiwan and the rest are from Mainland Comment from : 梅格耐斯 |
Waaaaa One discovers that a dictatorship is acting like a dictatorship! As a French lawyer and French professor of law at the university, no one should be surprised by that move When I witnessed the 1997 ceremony as a young law student, we discussed that between us We all agreed that HK will (unfortunately) return quicker to Mainland China than the official 50-year schedule Comment from : Sophie Wanlin |
and so the exitus of people and their money just continues Comment from : Steve Pailet |
Both Hong Kong and San Francisco had a great run as world class cities you'd want to visit and live in Now it's over Will either come back like NYC? Or will both of them start the long road towards becoming the next Detroit? There are many cities that went from hero to zero and never came back to its former glory I think HK is doomed As far as SF, I'm not sure but honestly not that optimistic SF I think both cities have changed forever and not for the better Comment from : FlashOfLight |
Those who thinks that commerce and politics can be separate in Hong Kong are just been foolish Comment from : Raymond Ng |
Hong Komg changed forever when the British took overbrHong Kong changed forever when China took overbrWhat I'm missing is the more open & free culture since China started to flood Hong Kong with Mainland Chinese, mandarin more & more pushing away the beautiful cantonese language etc For my interest Hong Kong was so amazing when it comes to Hip Hop in general (Rap, Breakdancing, Graffiti, Mixing & Rap), Skateboarding & BMX Hong Kong somehow overcome the British & made it their own identity Somehow sad & some of the comments here are just straight ignorant or like the Chinese Party preaches it Comment from : Charles McHoop |

I am a Hong Konger and have been in the UK for 25 years – not too long and not too short To be fair, there are many things I needed to adapt to here in the UK: the culture, lifestyle, people, and work, among others Speaking about job stability, taxes, and wages, I believe Hong Kong is better than many other European countries However, what I've learned, gained, and experienced here in the UK are resilience, independence, an open-minded mindset, respect, and, ultimately, the most important thing – freedom, including the freedom of speech
br
brWhat truly matters to me now isn't just about money, but rather the freedom, or perhaps even something as simple as that (I know it might sound a bit cheesy) Nonetheless, it's a privilege for me to express my opinions here, and sometimes I feel a sense of sadness observing how Hong Kong, my home, has gradually become a place that I'm not familiar with It's disheartening to witness every integral part of Hong Kong slowly being eroded
br
brAnyway, Hong Kong will always remain the best place and home in my heart 香港人加油 💛brPS THANK YOU UPTIN FOR THE VIDEO :)💯 Comment from : Angelica Luk |
HK is my favourite city in the world until the CCP grabbed it I will never return until it’s free again as you can’t trust the authorities and who would ever want to live in a place that expressing your personal opinions can get you arrested Such a shame for the HK people We should have never given it to the CCP, it was destined to be destroyed and Communism just doesn’t work due to corruption, incompetence and focusing on power and control All skilled people have options and the brain drain has already started in HK and it will keep getting worse the more the CCP push its control Comment from : RCKicks |

Hong Kong, they are Hongkongers mixed with East Asian boat dwellers and southern Chinese, like half Chinese They speak HK Cantonese that’s a different language with chinese and got their sea culture and some of Chinese culture, Not really in a same group with Chinese, normally people call them Chinese because they are a tiny group and closed to ChinabrbrIt’s so sad, the people still not used to call this tiny island people to Hongkonger, the HKers don’t accept China and the identity of Chinese, and in the truth some of their ancestors are boat dwellers Comment from : TheETchild |
there is always a middle man between China and the US, Hongkong play the role in 1980s-2015s, after that, it turns to Singapore however the ups and downs of China will be very unstable in the coming decades Comment from : Kein Ling |

Many HK and Westerners seem to believe that democracy is HK's right Actually, until Deng negotiated with Thatcher for HK's handover in Sep 1982, HK never had any democracy Hong Kong's Sedition law was the same one used by the colonial British authorities in Malaysia and Singapore, meant to deter any dissent or seditious remarks from the populace Talks or protest for democracy in HK was squelched by the British all the way to the 1980s A 1996 document ( wwwlegcogovhk/yr97-98/english/sec/library/956rp17pdf) produced by HK Legislative Council prior to 1997 handover clearly shows that local democratic elections were first held in Hong Kong in March 1982, the same year that Handover talks were held between Thatcher and Deng in Sep 1982brbrYet, after the British handover talks were concluded, the British suddenly said that they would give HK full democracy! I still remember many political commentators in UK at that time saying that was pure hypocrisy as the British never gave HK any democracy during its rule prior to the handover talks So, effectively handing over a poison pill to China after 1997 My surprise is that China actually allowed that until recently, when many British and Hong Kongers actually thought that would be taken away after the handoverbrbrHK now feels like HK just before 1997, when almost every Hong Konger who could, had obtained citizenship of another country as a bolt hole Favourites were Canada, Australia, USA You could feel the fear and tension in the air as the handover approached Many Hong Kongers still had the memory of the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989, just 8 years earlier Yet, to everyone's surprise, nothing of that sort occurred Furthermore, the riots and public property destruction would not have been allowed in any Asian country In fact, many Asian countries, including democratic countries, would have been more heavy handed in their approach Comment from : Kok Liang Chew |
Hong Kong was great as long as it was " british " capitalist , now we'll witnesses its destruction under communism Comment from : Fuk Zat Tek |

This video focus too much on politics, that’s for sure changed a lot - the riots let China made the decisions to change, any governments will do so In a way, it’s the riot changed the HK to stay out of politics and focus on economic, which is a good thing Comment from : Jacob Mee |
