Rations also reflected the culture For instance, french rations included wine But US army WW2 were A rations, largely prepared from fresh produce in a real mess hall at a base B rations were prepared in real mess halls, but relied primarily on canned foods, for overseas bases The C ration was a canned individual meal for a soldier to eat in the field, could be eaten hot or cold The D ration was basically a smaller version of the C ration, to be carried for situations when resupply was difficult The K ration was a chocolate oatmeal bar with supplements that supplied calories and staved off vitamin deficiency diseases Intended for soldiers like paratroopers who were supposed to jump with everything needed for three days of combat There were arctic and jungle rations for those environments, Hospital rations that supplemented hospital messes for therapeutic diets Other rations were experimented with but never got adopted Comment from : dalesql |

Soldiers didn't just eat C, D and K rations in WWll Those were reserved for when they were in combat and the field kitchens couldn't be brought close enough to serve them They normally ate hot food brought forward from the field kitchen or they were sent back in rotation to the rear area to be fed Comment from : Tamer 1 |

It should be noted that Spartans did not sustain themselves exclusively on black soup, it was more of an occasional or ritualistic meal prepared for soldiers leaving for war or before going into battlebrbrAnd obviously the food items listed in the video were not the only things allowed as rations, in eras before MRE-style meals were provided to the army, foraging was widespread, meaning if there was a village to pillage there was some variety to the menu Of course, if there were no settlements around and enemy managed to break the supply chain, intermittent fasting was inevitable (with occasional servings of long pork if situation went extremely dire and the enemy was so ruthless they didn't take prisoners) Comment from : Enrico Fermi |

C, D and K rations literally were designations for COMBAT rations, DESSERT rations and KITCHEN rations And NOBODY cooked their food with C4 It’s a military wives tail because C4 takes heat AND pressure to detonate and instructors would light a piece on fire to demonstrate But if they dropped it while it was burning it WOULD DETONATE!!
